  1. Planning to stay here early September but read that there is some refurb work going on within the hotel complex which means noise. Can anyone say if this is now completed?

  2. Unable to change money on a Sunday? Surely at the airport on arrival.

  3. The preferred meats for Muslims are mutton, not lamb, goat, sometimes camel and chicken from small birds. I have not eaten with many Muslims that have ever gone for a beef dish or beefsteak

  4. All the pics of eggs I've seen here, and had put in front of me have been joined. A proper pair of frieds sould be placed on the plate seperately. I am fastidious on presentation, nicer on the eye and tastes nicer, just like tea in a china cup. Mugs are for builders

  5. More precisely the beginning of September is when my g/f and I plan to visit for 6 days. But, with the seemingly negative news about the place on the up in regard to safety, is Pattaya really a good option these days? (Last visit about 2 years ago). Typical holiday profile for us would be to stay in a good central hotel allowing relaxation time, within walking distance of the "action" as onlookers, malls, multiple walks along beach road, day and evenings. Boring maybe but hassle free is key. Too much to ask?

  6. There is obviously a great deal of state pension experience here so hopefully someone can answer this question please.

In a couple of weeks I become eligible but I've not received (at my UK address) the application to claim. I will need to make a call, I know but in the likely event that I overshoot the mark, am I right in thinking that any late payments due will be made despite the late initial claim. I guess it would be easier to do it on line(?).

  7. Although I don't fly BA any longer, one thing is for sure, the cockpit crew are the best trained in the World. The Arab trio take a lot of beating all round, and having done part of my pilot training at DXB I feel pretty safe with Emirates.

  8. Of course we will all die...eventually. That's not the point. Smokers are more likely to have a poorer quality of life towards the end. We've all heard about someone's Granny who smoked like a chimney all her life then died of an apparent non smoking related cause. But what should be considered is that she had lost her sense of taste, had diseased gums and was unable to climb the stairs because of hypoxia etc.etc. Not very nice.

  9. They should wipe the bill and put in place a system where the consumer is protected,

Fair enough the boy done the wrong thing but he's only 12 and now you've got a mother who is most likely on computer savvy and a farmer slugged with a bill which is nearly impossible for her to pay.

His age should not count as a free pass for non payment of the bill. Otherwise everyone would be trying it on.

  10. The military seem intent on getting rid of a lot of bad apples, but what will happen when Thailand returns to Thai style democracy?

They are doing a lot of window dressing things at the moment. I hope they really start to tackle serious stuff like land encroachment or tea money in schools.

But these issues are of no concern to tourists, but airport issues are because tourism brings money into the country and that is what the government needs to encourage.

  11. Many Pattaya Walking Street go-go bars opened/closed early from 5-10PM last night and did a booming business. Everything closed promptly at 10.

I don't understand the prompt closing at 10pm. Do the staff and customers "enjoy" a lock-in? Otherwise they would have to break the curfew....or is my logic skewed?

  12. The answer are high level winds in the atmosphere that move faster at altitude because of fewer air molecules and therefore resistance. These jetstreams are largely predictable depending on the seasons and if the aircraft is flying in the N/S hemispheres. They will always exist at varying altitudes/Flight levels and invariably the headwind and tailwind components are known to the Pilot who will be checking the Met. Info at the forecasting station before the flight in order to choose the quickest and most economical (to the airline) flight level at which to fly.

Delays near to the terminal area due to traffic can also be largely predicted and a flight may have to 'lose time' by going into a holding pattern or 'racetrack' hold, or indeed requested to slow down to allow approaching aircraft ahead of it to approach the airfield in turn. Going on from this the ATC Approach Controller or 'Radar' would need to ensure adequate separation between aircraft, normally 6 nm, before handing over to 'Approach'. This requires a lot of skill by the handling officer not least because aircraft speeds vary. There may also be wake turbulence to take into consideration. The whole scenario can be upset if a pilot declare an emergency due to a low fuel state in which case that flight will be given priority to land.....that's for another time perhaps!
