I quit about 25 years ago after I picked up a lung infection whilst on a business trip to Turkey. It frightened me big time. Also I was having to have an annual for my pilot license and fill in that section about smoking, I was ashamed. My subsequent chest X-rays showed complete lung recovery after about 7 years. I never failed a pilot medical exam, which are pretty arduous the older you get. Sense of smell and taste recovered. I will not even light a smoke for anyone else. Stick at it! Kicking the habit combined with abstention from alcohol will give you a great chance of having a better quality life health wise until your time comes.

A baby maybe ?
A baby in such circumstances is definitely NOT the solution. Babies add to any existing problem(s).

Spent many Ramadans in Riyadh Saudi Arabia. Then I had the misfortune of experiencing Songkran in Thailand. At least in Saudi you were never physically assaulted, as a non Muslim, you had choices and certainly did not have worry about the yobbish element. Here in Thailand you have no choices. I respect the meaning of Songkran, I do not respect the Farang yob element and therefore I have a right to whine.

Each one of us is entitled to express our comfort expectations. Years ago in Blighty, I stopped my mother in law from popping in unannounced for Sunday tea, invariably when friends were visiting. It made me and my friends feel awkward. It had to stop. Wifey understood....eventually. My house, my family, my choice. Then I became an expat..no longer a problem.

What's wrong with you guys?? What do you think marriage is all about? Family? How bad can it be to show some respect to your wife's family? So you "reduce" your standard of living for a couple of days. You seem to forget that this is where she IS FROM, this is where she grew up, those are the people that brought her up to be the woman you decided to marry!!!
How would you feel if she snubbed your family? If she refused to eat with them? refused to visit them??
You THINK that your way of life is an upgrade for her - well, you are WRONG! It's definitely a change, a different way of life, but rest assure most Thais don't hate their heritage, they feel good going back home and stay with their families, at the old house with what YOU consider "sub-standard" toilets. Try for once viewing it without judgement. Look at it as DIFFERENT, not INFERIOR. It will make your life easier to bear.

OP glad to hear that you got the hotel room... Will certainly make things much comfortable and also gives you the freedom to slip away for a bit of privacy when needed

Another airhead here (CPLetc.) It is the. Captains call. Handling pilot would call for checklist. The aircraft ain't going to drop out of the sky with a suspected gear malfunction. They were fuelled up, no immediate threat to life, cargo or airframe. After immediate checklist actions and referral (possibly) to POH (Pilot Operating Handbook) and conference between both pilots, and poss. Chf Engineer on the ground, the Captain would have made the call to make a precautionary landing at the take off alternate, fuel
dumped. He most likely would have declared a PAN rather than Mayday, and taken control from the FO (First Officer) if he was the handling Pilot. Training clicks in very rapidly, raised heart rates in cockpit, ground facilities long alerted. Job done.

Business! Business! Business. Then after 30 odd years, relaxation, relaxation and a bit of fun with non Thai girlfriend.

The odd squirt or ritual hand rinsing is one thing. Any more is common assault. So yes I will winge about such extreme behaviour, especially by the yobbo farangs.

Wait a minute.....you were walking around during Songkran speaking on your mobile? Most people would surely be ashamed to admit that level of stupidity.

It will all blow over soon. Much ado about nothing.

Many years ago when I worked in Hartlepool UK, a man was caught on CCTV attempting to screw a pony in a field. He was prosecuted. Then there was the story of a man fondling a dolphin in open water. Camels are less cooperative so I'm told but it is an accepted practice in KSA. Nowt as strange as folk.

i have heard this so clearly there must be some truth in it, but I think that this is the minority of London cabbies. I have caught london taxis for years and never had a problem, not once. Most are talkative, friendly people and just get you to where you want to be as quickly as possible. Also, never been refused by a london taxi to take me anywhere, in fact you get in before you tell them where you want to go.
Someone once told me details about the test that London cabbies have to pass in order to get their license. It sounded like the hardest test in the world.
London trainee Cabbies have to 'do the knowledge', an oral and a practical test. No mean feat

What are the consequences for erring taxi drivers in Thailand? I once reported a Dubai taxi driver, the poor sod was taken off the road 'for re-training' (via subsequent tel call from his Employer).

You can't stop him from coming. How do you know that he actually wants to come to his blood daughter's graduation anyway?

Which is the most reliable on this sector please, ThaiSmile or Bangkok Airways? Am I right in saying that they both allow 20 kgs checked in for no extra charge? I don't fancy going across to DMK for Air Asia. Two pax traveling early April. Thanks Guys.

I like TV although don't contribute as much as I should, perhaps. Without it would impact my life insignificantly.

How can you be sure that a miserable looking person actually is miserable. Some people just look discontent when in fact they're feeling OK with life. I guess the only way to find out if one is that interested is to ask; that's one way of making friends or ending up on the receiving end of some verbal.

So Guys, now that TAT, and seemingly Thailand itself, has been portrayed in a typically bad light even for TV judging by most of the above comments, albeit tongue in cheek, let's have some positive suggestions as to how the attractive elements of visiting LOS may be promoted. I reckon taking part in the London exhibition is a good step. Happy honeymoon!

Just like the UAE which borders Oman. The law is as you state Spaniel.....however in my 30 years working in the region let me state categorically that Omanis in national dress and expats are served alcohol in bars and restaurants without the need to show the booze licence.

Alcohol is legally widely available in Oman and one can often see foreigners and locals indulging together in Muscat. They seem to be able to hold their booze a lot better than the foreigners.

Warm air capable of sustaining large volumes of moisture, a warm land mass surrounded by deep bodies of warm water combine to provide a great recipe for cyclonic activity.
