Go look at Florida retired old people die all the time. Why does it have to be foul play?
I'd like to go in Thailand rather than my cold farang land. (Not just yet though as I haven't reached retirement age yet lol. I hope he passed away in his sleep and found peace
"old people die all the time. Why does it have to be foul play?" - everyone will die, one day.
The problem dying here is, if you die under suspicious circumstances, by western investigative standards, commonly termed, "foul play" - it can be / has been, officially recorded by police as natural causes or suicide, when in some cases, it clearly has not been. This can even happen when there is more than one death at the same time. Eg. the two sister who died on Phi Phi.
The police are either too lazy or incompetent, or both, to investigate properly, or, a foreigner being killed is damaging to Phuket's tourism industry.
Maybe this guy died of natual cause, then again, maybe he didn't.
People die all the time, young and old. In this era 65 is not particularly old. Why is it necessary to put such an unnecessary tag on age; it really does seem to be a particular characteristic of certain TV members when commenting on the subject of death.

Good. Shisha is disgusting stuff and lung clogging for those within range. I don't care about those who smoke it; they're destined for ill health, up to them.

My misunderstanding about the final destination that I thought was Singapore, not HKG. Apologies for that. Safe flying Arunsakda and to all On TV

No sympathy. Why do people do it then expect the Government to underwrite their mistakes? Good luck to the OP anyway; we all make mistakes.

A great circle route from AUH-HKG goes nowhere near Phuket and in fact avoids all of SEA crossing North India, Myanmar and PRC.

So you are aware of the ATC routes (airways) then? Aircraft do not fly randomly in IFR (instrument flight rules). Have a look at a Jepperson chart, that's what I trained with)

When I was twelve escalators were a rarity; walking up steps was the norm, that's why I am healthy and "hansum"

Also, if a plane was flying from Abu Dhabi to Hong Kong, what would it be doing anywhere near Phuket, even in an emergency.Think someone got it wrong Emerities does not fly from Abu Dubi to Hong Kong
Emirates code is EK not TL.
ATC Routes are not straight lines. They follow great circle routes allowing for the curvature of the earth-an oblate spheroid. Therefore an ideal diversion alternate based on the position of the aircraft was Phuket, after flying over the sea.

If the EL IATA code has been correctly reported then it relates to the Greek airline Elinair call sign ELLINAIR HELLAS

I use Emirates from Newcastle-Dubai-Bangkok, change planes at Dubai, last time the flight then continued on to New Zealand with the passengers going there stopped on the aircraft at Bangkok. I have flown from Bangkok to Dubai and the plane had come from Hong Kong so I assume that Emirates fly from Bangkok to Hong Kong.
EK does fly HKG BKK, assumption correct.

Have let myself go a bit. Never used to be but busy life style has left me struggling to go to gymTo the OP: are you overweight?
Lol
So in a word yes
Forget the torture and time wasting of the gym unless you really enjoy it and you've got plenty of time on your hands. Eat less, cut out the booze completely and eat rice only once a week, and walk a bit more. Might help.

I had a couple of Chinese staff in the Middle East. Charming and hard working, and very popular with the other members who were mainly from India, a couple of Brits as well. Since then my travels and work have taken me to China, no problems. In LOS I am more wary about being in the company of Farangs.

No, never with sandals and definitely not with flip flops, which should only be seen on the beach and around the pool.

Phuket police are cracking down on inappropriate Songkran celebrations this year. Local authorities have barred alcohol in water-play zones, sexy outfits, sexy dancing and water-fight trucks
Might as well cancel Songkran!
Would'nt go quite that far but certainly lock up the idiotic Farang element for a day or two. But then one might argue that it's not unlawful to be an idiot.

Atmospheric conditions such as clear air turbulence in the cruise can hardly be blamed on the airline or crew. It's how the handling pilot handles the situation that counts, surely?

This is another example of sensational reporting. The engine did not fail but there was a fault in the oxygen system. The pilots initiated a rapid descent from their cruising altitude down to the oxygen level of 10,000ft initially, and landed the aircraft safely. Dramatic for the pax, yes, but pretty much in a day's work for your average pilot which is practiced umpteen times by them and it's part of the many emergency procedures carried out when necessary. Well done to the pilots who did their jobs to the book and everyone walked away, shaken but alive.

This must be one of the most incomprehensible series of posts I have ever come across on TV

All aircraft 'fly low' on approach to land, departure and often during a missed approach, so nothing unusual there. Depending on which type of aircraft was seen, it could have been on an instrument calibration flight or photographic flight. Eye witness non pilot statements are notoriously unreliable especially in judging altitude and engine noise, even direction. Apparent low flying aircraft are a fact of life. Logical.

Seen three beheadings at chop chop square in Riyadh. One guy was made to suffer by the executioner but eventually his head came off, job done. The other two guys went quietly, heads just popped off. Barbaric, but then it was time for lunch.

Take cash, pre book accommodation before you travel if possible on your credit card, what could be easier than that?

I am 82 and still working, still go to gym 4/5 times a week, have a great life with a wonderful Thai partner, much younger than me. I do not even think of checking out before I am 98, same age that my grandparents and parents moved on.
It is not age but state of mind that determines your quality of life and def not money.
Bless you Sir

Absolutely no sympathy for the student who thankfully came to no harm. A lifetime lesson learned?
