Thailand Cracks Down: Police to Monitor Foreign Nationals Closely
captnhoy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
"potentially damages Thailand's reputation" I have to wonder what the Thai leadership believes Thailand's reputation IS. -
Russian Tourist in Underwear Battles Thai Police in Phuket [video]
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Moreover, it serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting local laws and customs, even on holiday. Thanks for that. I was just about to peel down to my skivvies for a re-enactment. -
Tourists Clash in Violent Street Fight on Bangla Road, Phuket
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Bitches or not, let's not overlook the fact that these FARANGS are criminals TOO 555 . . . . "underscoring the disregard for local laws" -
I previously lived in Ranong on my own liveaboard boat. The only time I ever saw 50 Thai fishing boats at one time was at the waterfront, The actual borderline at sea is non existent. Local lore said that Thai waters were depleted of fish and the Ranong fleet had bribed heavily to fish Burmese waters, It's hard to imagine Thai boats respecting a boundary. I remember a day years ago when a Thai fleet "fled Indonesian waters" and docked at the "Multipurpose Port" in Ranong. They were painting over the boat names on the stern and a convoy of refrigerated trucks arrived to unload the catch.

This is a difficult way for the inexperienced tourists to learn that the rules of your home country are really just ideas in Thailand. -

Elderly Australian Caught Stealing Vitamin C in Chonburi
captnhoy replied to Georgealbert's topic in Pattaya News
What is tomorrow? Did you just wake up? This could be called Bashing Now. -
When getting an e-visa to return to Thailand in Dec of 2021, this reminds me of the process of taking a selfie while holding my passport open to the photo page. And the website rejecting multiple versions until finally it accepted it.

Don't worry about the money - they police will get it from the wealthy Mr. Singh -
To all the people who believe the sexual favor accusation, prosecuting attorneys are elected, not appointed. So carry on with your grade school gossip. I keep waiting for Trump to wow us with his game changing policy statements. You know what's true? He sees his humiliating defeat speeding towards him and he's got NOTHING.

NZ brothers return home after 4 months in Thai custody for assault
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
No mention of alcohol. My exposure to the cultures from down under are admittedly limited but the theme was always mass quantities of alcohol. How could you do something like that in your right mind? And now they want respect? As mentioned previously, they'd be shot dead in the US with those stupid moves. -
EVA is still my airline of choice even though they are far more, umm, business minded (mercenary) than they were a few years ago. At that time one could upgrade to Economy Plus for a small difference. Now it's a big difference. Can you save upgrading at check-in? Let us know. For me, flying out of Chicago, they usually have the best price and the best schedule too. The staff is still professionally friendly and the food at times is actually good. Just be glad you don't have to fly a US airlines.

Vietnamese Men Arrested for Assaulting Business Partner in Broad Daylight
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
It actually could have been any nationality. It's a mean world. And daytime or not, so what. I've seen 3 assaults in Pattaya over the years. Thai man (pimp?) against Thai woman, Thai on Thai and Thai on farang. All in the light of day. Shocking. -

Thailand allocates 8 billion baht for research in AI and EV industry
captnhoy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This is hilarious. How about allocating some money to learn how to stop unintentionally electrocuting people? Then tackle AI topics. -
Thai Pilots Association opposes eased restrictions for foreign pilots
captnhoy replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
What are the restrictions and are they relatively new? Having flown out of Ranong regularly 10 years ago I remember seeing foreign pilots, one of them a woman. -
Remembering your V8 Muscle car........
captnhoy replied to transam's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I have kicked myself for not scooping one of these up when they were simply "used cars" at a resonable price. And the green one juts like that would have been my first choice. -
Foreign woman criticised for urinating on Bangla Road, Phuket
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Not wanting to read 4 pages of comments I'll just be the next to say - My GAWD! This is reserved for Thai men! Fine her 500 baht and warn her about deportation. -
For 3 consecutive years I brought my GF in for a 6 month stay as we escaped the rainy season and enjoyed the US summer. The 3rd time we got an aggressive agent who accused her of wanting to live in the US and said we needed to get into the green card program. He also threatened to not allow another entry. I wanted to suggest that he'd be more effective on our southern border but of course had to bite my tongue. I believe it always comes down to the luck of the draw and who you are dealing with. Was it a factor that this guy only stood about 5'-6"? Perhaps having a cover letter from you might be helpful?

Transport ministry investigating 10,600+ complaints about taxis
captnhoy replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It would be easy and is tempting to make a sarcastic comment. It only took 10,600 complaints to consider there is a problem? There was no indication of a problem previously? But my second thought is that maybe the new administration is making a good faith effort at improving the tourist's experience. Maybe.
