  1. I'd just like to thank all those contributing to this thread. Information shared is what TV is all about :o

Reading through all the replies so far, my conclusion would be that regardless of whatever the immigration regulations stipulate on paper, at ground zero it comes down to the individual interpretation of the officer dealing with the application..... and what sort of day he's having!

so true, the real checklist should be......smile,dress smart, smile,be polite,no attitude, smile, wear a yellow shirt, bring cookies, smile, shave and haircut, smile.....additionally try to go when they aren't so busy to eliminate the bad day option. It may sound crazy, but I think the above will improve the chances for a sucessfull renewal.

  2. I just saw a report on Thai news about the police shutting down a satellite tv equipment dealer who was also selling programming. My Thai isn't that great, but that I believe is the report on thai tv channel 11. If anyone has anything to add, I am interested. I have been considering a Dreambox over True Visions/ubc, but now I am concerned about buying a system that may become the target of the authorities.

  3. Hey Everyone,

Just wondering if anyone knows if TrueVisions broadcast in Analogue or Digital or both?...

I've just moved in to a new place with satellite and I'm trying to work out what I've got.

The receiver box looks very old. It's got Dstv on the front and UBC stickers, it's made by Cal-Comp Thailand and has the purple / white menu.

One of my friends has UBC and his menu system is completely different to mine and his box is as well. He had it put in a month ago.

I went to one of the satellite shops but they weren't very helpful so was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction?... If there is a digital option available I'd like to upgrade. My landlady called UBC the other day and said they couldn't help her. I've checked out the TrueVisions website but it doesn't state if it's digital or not.

    Any help is appreciated.

  4. As you are grandfathered or you would not have this 400k option I would not risk losing it for anything that you can avoid. I would recommend a fresh transfer of funds from outside Thailand so that officers can see it in your passbook.

You might well be able to provide previous proof of transfer and have it accepted - but I suspect many officers will operate on the principle of reducing the number using grandfather rules and if you can make a transfer believe it would be the safer thing to do.

Thanks, that was what I was thinking too. No reason to chance it.

  5. Thanks for all your posts, they really help everyone.

Here is my situation. I am on my 4th marriage extension. I moved a few million baht into Thailand 3 years ago and bought gold. The money for the gold purchase was transfered into my Bangkok Bank account via a swift transfer and is noted in my passbook. I would like to sell the gold and put the proceeds in my Bangkok Bank account when my extension is due for the 400k requirement. Do you foresee any problems with this method? I use a combination of gold sales and swift transfers from abroad for living expenses.

Two years ago I was questioned where the money for my extension came from and I showed them the swift transfer and the officer in question was OK with it all. With all the changes as of last year, I just want to be prepared for anything that might happen as I do not want to compromise my current status.

    thanks

  6. My experience was very easy, 10 min and a 10 year visa for my wife. They were more interested in my status it seemed. I have lived here for over 5 years. We just got back and to my surprise she said I should go alone next year. She now knows why I choose to live here and I won't have to hear the "when are we going to america" questions......things work out somtimes for the best...I couldn't be happier....
