" It is almost impossible to transfer funds out of Thailand "

According to my bank if you can show you legally brought money in then you can transfer it out.

    john

That's what I was told at the source, meaning the bank's international fund transfer department.

The lady said I could transfer 1.9 million baht.

I'd love that as I only keep 900K baht in a Thai bank.     I showed her ATM withdrawals on my tablet but she showed little interest in it.     She just said to come and see her if I ever want to make the transfer.

Usually consulates will not accept the application if they don't intend to issue a visa. If they do decline a submitted application they usually issue the visa, but stamp it as being voided/cancelled so it can't be used.

Saying usually  makes sense.   There are exceptions.

When the wife and I applied for a visa at the Polish Embassy  in London some years back  we found out a few weeks later they denied us  and refused to  give any explanation whatsoever.        I still want to visit however.

i was never a visa runner but this new rule of keeping 400,000 in a bank doing sfa, so 25 thou into 400 thou thats 16 years extra for me, and i get to spend that 400,000, i be long gone before 16 years are up

Not sure if you're joking or not.  "i get to spend that 400,000".     Isn't that just short term borrowing from yourself?

Wonder if anyone thought about borrowing the equivalent  800K amount from ones  home country bank and repaying the interest with the  fee the  agent charges.

I went to open a savings account at BKK bank in Chiang Mai a month ago and the bank clerk told me I needed a residence letter from immigration.

When I told him that I wasn't currently resident in the Kingdom, he pondered and asked how much I wanted to transfer. He subsequently went out the back and came back with the answer  'my manager guarantee you'. Result........

It must be discretionary as to whether they can skip the residence bit. Thank goodness for that........

From reading some of the posters' comments about preferring not to place a lump sum in a Thai bank to cover the 800K requirement, when they already have the funds elsewhere; I am confused as to why so many seem hesitant. BKK bank offer 1.6%, well they did a month ago, which is not the end of the world and I am sure there must be other deals around....

I guess you must be what is called Hiso.    I'm sure a deposit of ฿ 800K would not impress many local  bank branches.     You must have offered a much  much  larger deposit amount.

    Good luck with your banking.

No I will not have to leave but as I get older the constant rule changes with ever ever changing hoops to jump over are becoming tiresome, and I'm really at a loss to understand the reasoning, other than "because we can".

Sometimes I wonder if there'll ever be a standardized requirement for  permission for falangs  to remain in thailand.      I'd be nice  if the Thailand government could settle on a requirement that satisfies the powers  that be  as well as  reasonably quell the concerns of the falangs it impacts.

Likelihood  of it happening,    next to zero?

The problem is getting the washing materials.  Very overpriced in supermarkets.  Home Pro has some that is better value but sometimes do not seem to have.   Be aware rats love to eat the wires in dishwashers.

I didn't read where the OP asked about "washing materials" for a dishwasher.

Did you read that in his OP?

I once saw a dishwasher in Baen and Beyon (sp?)  store.    Sorry about spelling.

In my experience, they are less than friendly, but at least I got my visa.

Went there in October. At first they insisted I needed to print my flight details myself, but after I hassled them, they finally agreed to let me email them, but they weren't very happy about it.

I would recommend printing your docs yourself.

My  total experience with Vietnam was 100% opposite yours.

You said.."In my experience, they are less than friendly".

I found the people  in Vietnam incredibly friendly as well as helpful.

Sorry your experience was not so good.

Maybe its a case of very stinky in,just stinky coming out.

    regards Worgeordie

Taking Worgeordie's words literally and with  with all due respect, maybe you should ask a GF, a friend or even a (doctor?) to give you an honest assessment of the smell of your body.     I have a former friend, an acquaintance now, who smells so  badly I can't tolerate being near him.     He doesn't believe in using any  deodorant  and combining that with living in a tropical climate, his clothes have a stench which I believe cannot be removed.     Even thought he's very  well cashed up and has a pension of at least    200,000฿    per month, he'd never consider throwing away any clothes he can still manage to wear.

You could probably test my theory by buying  a new shirt and smelling the underarms of it after your wear it.    If it smells badly, there's your answer.   Maybe washing will alleviate the problem but why not go to the source?

My acquaintance is 76 and as sometimes happens with  older  men, as opposed to women, they   tend to forget proper  personal grooming, be it showering  teeth cleaning, shaving and  etc.

My acquaintance may have a horrible body order but at least his breath is the closest thing known to man to smell like a fermenting Thailand trash receptacle.  I doubt any exhalation could pass by teeth as brown as his and smell OK.

No reason, really,  for a man to allow himself to go to sheet.
