  1. Just came across this video. It shows re-programming the new key in the car itself.

Thanks and that's close but not quite a cigar for you.

WE ended up calling a total of 7 dealers and got five (?) different answers as to how to get an additional key. It's probably an issue of a Thai person not being able to imagine the future as in why are you asking if you don't already own the car.

This is one of the two keys we were given. I show both sides of the key and remote. WE've gotten a price quote from ฿2017. to just under 10,000 fro a duplicate of the key and remote

Correct information in LOS is priceless, indeed.

  2. If it is illegal to scan or reproduce by other means, Thai currency, which it is, then isn't Thaivisa.com in serious breach of the law by publishing, ie distributing, those reproductions?

Doesn't TV make its own laws?
  3. I've also tried several "highly" recommended chiropractors but did not have success. If in the future I need any such kind of treatment I'll opt for physical therapy which did properly treat a pinched nerve years ago.

    Good luck

  4. Sorry I can't help with your question but I was surprised by your post as I wasn't aware that Traffic Avoidance was available in BKK. After reading your post I did some googling and indeed it seems that it is now supported. Thanks for the heads up.

I have used various Garmin units in Thailand for several years but have never taken any notice of the Traffic Avoidance feature assuming that it didn't work here. It has just occurred to me that though my current unit (1490) has the feature, the actual receiver is in the original power cable which I changed because it is a bit bulky to wind around the steering column. I'll change it back & am looking forward to trying it out.

My question is this. How well does it really work in BKK? I mean how reliable & up to date is the traffic info? Though the Thai map is improving with each version, it is still pretty hit & miss compared to some other country maps. Therefore I can't help but be a bit sceptical about a relatively sophisticated function like Traffic Avoidance which I guess is only as good as the info it receives.

I would really appreciate hearing about you experiences - at least prior to last week.

BTW, has TA started working again?

Hard to imagine it could actually work in BKK or anywhere in LOS.

  5. TGF called four dealers and got three different answers.

The duplicate answers were to just have any street corner locksmith cut a key.

Information is not easy to get in LOS. At least reliable information, that is.

the reason given for dealers to not make the key was the workers could make an extra key for themselves. They can't be trusted according to what the TGF was told.

  6. ^^I just can't use anything like that. It creeps me out. Like you know someone has pooped or peed on the squirting mechanism...and it's like squirting someone else's poop or pee up your bum...it's just not right.

I thought it odd enough to warrant a photo, but you do bring up another point, which is just, how clean do you suppose the bum guns in public toilets are? I mean, people are often using their hand(s) to clean things in addition to the bum gun. (Muslims consider the left hand to be unclean because it's the hand used for... cleaning?). Which is just to say that if you use a bum gun in a public toilet, best be sure to wash your hands well after.

Always seemed like a good idea to me under any circumstances.

  7. To be specific, I never said I sped up, I just didn't slow down, as I wasn't going that fast anyway. Tootling isn't going flat out.

My point, which you have ignored, is that because I slowed down rapidly, a tailgater would have rear ended me. I was in fact supporting crisp with his post about stopping distances.

While you may be correct about the cop taking precedence over lights, while a warning sign might not be essential, it certainly would be a good idea, and shouldn't we actually be able to see them, ie wearing decent high visibility clothing?

Someone that rear ends another is ( or should be ) always in the wrong, no exceptions.

I concur that tailgating is one of the most dangerous habits of thai drivers, indeed. I saw many a chain pileup on the highway caused by this behavior, where people follow each other at very close distances, where reaction time and speed are almost certain to guarantee a collision for any sudden slowdown of the leading vehicle.

Nevertheless, when approaching an intersection or signal lights, you should always slow down (in preparation for a rapid change of lights - here, orange lights last barely 3 seconds).

Normally, police wear some reflective orange signaling vest, but I noticed that unlike the materials used by law enforcement forces in Europe, the local materials seem to be barely visible at night.

Well said and I also like the advice to never be the first one to enter an intersection when the light turns green.

  8. Thank's all.

Calling the dealers (two of them) hasn't gotten us a clear and final answer as yet. I never imagined getting a couple of extra keys would be so hard for them. A salesman actually let us walk yesterday because of his not wanting to get the price and availability of two keys. It was a done deal if not for the keys. He said he'd call us today with information but the day has come and gone and no phone call from him. Sure surprised me.

  9. I recently asked about getting a spare key for a 2013 Honda Civic. While I'm no locksmith, it appeared to me that the key requires a laser to make. It's cut on both sides to a certain depth. A Honda salesman told me any locksmith could make the key. I have to question that.

I have the belief the key requires some information from Honda either with a code or possibly Honda even sending a blank key to the dealer.

Certainly the key needs a chip which is compatible with whatever car I have.

Anyone have experience with this as to what's required to get a spare key and how many baht it takes?

    TIA

I'm looking to buy the car and I don't already own the Civic.

  10. Most dealers have accounts at all the major banks, so you could transfer up to 1,000,000 online for a 15THB fee directly to their K Bank.

You might have to call the K Bank call centre to raise your daily limit. The maximum is 1,000,000 I think. If the vehicle is more than that, do it two days running for a total of 30 THB.

That's an outstanding suggestion Woodsie888. I thank you very much for making it.

The sergeant appeared stunned upon learning of Banjong's identity. However, he said, "My boss in fact receives more money than me and other [officers]. The money I collected is for the boss - we got a very small sum." Both police, however, left the shop. The incident was recorded by the shop's security cameras.

Obviously bought his post as there appears to be a total absence of brain cells with a quote like that.

    What should he have said?
