  1. Thats the way to keep the tourist away... With the Pound the Euro and the Dollar Exchange rate No one can afford to come to Thailand on Holiday. So many other countries the rate is Much better. Thailand is hurting it's self.... Wake the F&*% up!!!!!!!

    .

Are you thinking it's a good thing for you that the baht is valued in such a way so as to make Thailand too expensive for many Western expats?

You post doesn't make that clear for me.

  2. Strange because according to this topic you don't live in Thailand and your wife isn't Thai at all

    http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/576899-retirement-visa-what-about-wife-kids/

Am about to retire to Thailand, age and funds not an issue, but these are the possible issues:

    - having a wife who is neither Thai nor Swiss citizen (Swiss C permit) => what kind of Visa would she need / get ?

    - she has a small kid to which I am not the father, but she is the sole guardian (father did give up all rights) and kid is 10 => would the kid get the Visa automatically through the mother?

And according to this topic a few months later you donm't even have a wife at all.

Thanks in advance for giving me some ideas about things to do in Chiang Mai when I will drop by for 3 days in january. Will be there with my girlfriend and looking for the "must see" of this city. It's our first visit and just want to stroll around and see the main attractions. Any ideas and recommendations highly appreciated.

    So back under your bridge

    .

Well done. Good research. Now maybe some of us can feel better about our completely miserable situation as opposed to his fake paradise. 555

Would it be unfair to call this person a likely liar and a complete buffoon?

Aren't things posted on the internet "forever"?

  3. Not if it was her money you opened your toy-shop with...

Yeah, that did occur to me - where does a young guy come by the capital to open a high-end audio store ? Might go a long way to explaining why they found themselves in MBK - surely *the* bargain-basement destination in inner BKK - surrounded by people selling cheap tat and endless rows of mobile phones. Not the market I'd be looking for - it would be like trying to open a Porsche dealership outside Tesco.

The upside, for me, is that I wont be revisiting MBK unless its at the point of a gun, so I am unlikely to ever encounter Mama EatMySh*t.

Aren't all the hi-end audio shops in the upper floors of Ploenchit Plaza?

Used to go there a lot. Some seriously expensive gear. They let you browse as much as you want.

    .

any store any where that would be unhappy about me price or product comparing would never have me as a customer. The whole thing here with the "across the threshold guarantee" thing is enough to make me extremely cautious.

  4. 1 phone explodes = tv grumpy team happy to bash a brand

Best overall performance and lifetime in my hands have been my reliable IPhone 4 surviving my harsh treatment at work and play with dust ,sweat and tears being dropped multiple times on hard surfaces still with the same slim silicone cover that i put on when i boutght it

yes its Jailbroken since day 1 no apple restrictions for me

    it's been

Perfect performance from my iPhone 4 since 2009

Outlasting any phone I've had before by years

    a happy tv reader

Sad to be witness to the many negative people here on tv almost every thread gets the grumpy old mad treatment

    .

For many TV BM's there seems to be little more satisfying than a good old fashioned "Apple bash".

  5. Hi Whatacharacters. Your madam could simply think about pulling down the mirrors to view the curb...

    .

Thanks freemindxs. that would be fine to check the distance after stopping but you know how Thais' parallel park with heading into a space. The mirrors would hardly protect the front fender from the hardness of the concrete curb. 555

Maybe i should have bought one of these:

  6. Haven't seen these for sale in TH since I was a little kid...

How about buying some tires with decent sized rim protectors, or putting on some second-hand steel wheels until she gets the hang of it? wink.png

    .

I'm with you. they seemed to be popular in the 50's and maybe even a bit in the early 60's. I'm actually not even thinking so much about the wheels getting bumped as I am just the body of the car itself. I would even put one in the front of the car to protect against the non standardized sizes of the concrete blocks on the parking spaces. I just know she's going to smack one of those before too long.

  7. As you say and PDF says this is requirement for a long stay O-A visa - not the multi entry non immigrant O visa you were posting about before. This visa has always required financials be proven, as well as medical and police reports.

As for the 3 months bank statements there is no indication of any amount required so believe that is just to confirm you have had an account open for that period of time and the 800k bank letter of account balance requested later is not a one day occurrence in a new account to obtain the visa.

    .

I wonder why a medical and police report is necessary when applying in ones home country as opposed to neither being required in LOS itself.

I started with applying in my home country but I couldn't find a doctor to do an elephantiasis test. I guess it didn't matter if I had elephantiasis once I applied in thailand. Strange.

    Any ideas why this is?

  8. It's officially free. If they try to charge you for it, it's a bribe and dishonest.

These officers get a salary for the work they do.

Would you pay the postman for each letter delivered when you know he gets paid by the Post Office?

Just because you would do the same, don't think that everyone else has the same morals as you .

No I would not do the same as them, many people would and obviously do!! as far as I am concerned it is a tip for a service exactly the same as if you were in a restaurant and were given good service, is this a bribe, the waiter or waitress also receives a salary!! It's a tip which you do not have to pay!!
You pay a 300 Baht tip at a restaurant? That's more than our bill is usually! I also have never paid immigration anything for their services, other the the amount stated on the form.
The problem is, they know you MUST have the certificate for many things. Eg. drivers/riders licence, buying a car/bike etc.

Maybe you have been lucky. You tell the immigration guy you know it's free, and not 300 baht, but, one day, you might get a guy challenge you and say, "It's 300 baht. You not pay - I not give."

What are you going to do? He knows you need it and he knows you will unhappily pay the 300 baht.

A small thing like this could esculate to some other issues for you. The Thai's have designed the laws for Aliens in such a way that they always hold all the aces, and I do not trust their judical system here anyway.

Like I said in a previous post, I know they are free, I know I am indirectly being scammed and made to pay 300 baht for the certificate, but I just pay without any other issues arising if I was to cause a loss of face to an immigration officer by involving his supervisor.

Also, let's not forget, by the very nature of The Certificate of Residence - he knows where you live.

I respect you, and other members, for mentioning to immigation officials you know it's free and the fact that you do not pay it, but it could turn into something a little nasty one day, all over 300 baht, and it goes against my personal "keep a low profile policy" whilst here in Thailand..

    .

I haven't head anyone mention the design of the "we need an address verification letter" concept also includes each agency MUST have it's own original letter and not a photo copy. So multiply the tip by two. I happened to be getting my motorbike license around the same time as buying a car so I ended up needing two copies. Since I don't live in a high rent area, the cost was ฿500 and not the ฿800 as reported above by one member.

The lady at the Immigration office I go to was very clear that the "tip" was mandatory.

  9. Tesco, don't buy the cheapest and forget the pump gage. Buy separately. smile.png

Do not trust the gage at garages. sad.png

    Is a Gage a transmitable disese.giggle.gif
My spell check says ''gage'', my head says ''gauge'' but <deleted>, my spell check also says ''disease'' but you say ''dises''. Hate getting old. laugh.png
    .

The alternative ain't so great. 555

    "Hate getting old."

  10. Really I wish the worst to the people who complain the system here ! Just go home ! You are less than nothing in this country and you should accept it as it is or leave ! If we all get in trouble because of 1 guy I hope he will feel pain until the rest of his life.

    .

You seem a little tightly wound figs.

Try to relax in the Land of smiles

If you can't make a living in Thailand with that, go back to work or you can probably enjoy your retirement somewhere in Africa thumbsup.gif

Ps: if some of you are curious about my avatar it's a add of Aston Martin pre owned car....

Congratulations on making public you do not understand the basics of currency.

Why would anyone be "curious" about your avatar?

    +1

  12. Fk that shit dont eat this don't eat that excercise yada yada yada I really dont care I see super fit people dropping down dead on footbal fields my gran smoked like a trooper ate bacon and eggs every day and lived to a rip old age of 83 my Dad smokes like a trooper drinks every single day eats a good english diet and for as long as I can remember and is 70 years old, I really think if you worry about what to eat you wont be able to eat or do anything cant drink etc etc whats the point life is for living not worrying about what your eating every minute and you are a prime example, your trying hard and you still found out your not healthy

If your time is up mate its up no matter how it is coming and for me I am going to enjoy every day eat what I like and if I peg it so be it I have had a great life and i don't have to eat like a rabbit

Im off to MCDonalds for Big Mac and Fries

btw, it would help if you read what I'd posted - I never said I wasn't healthy. I'm just interested in staying healthy. For every story "my gran ate rubbish and smoked like a chimney and lived till 90" there are millions of people conking out before their time for that very reason, so please respect the fact we don't all think like you and that doesn't make you any cleverer than the rest of us.

While I think i understand DK's point, I don't think he gives enough attention to debilitating strokes as opposed to death. Death doesn't have me nervously sitting on the edge of my chair but a major stroke is simply no fun at all. A victim of such a stroke is likely to find little fun in life.

If anything, I fall mostly in DL's approach in the long run.

  13. Sorry but i can't help but I was just thinking the other day i have not seen many trailers in Thailand , not like in Oz anyway. Maybe they are too hard to reverse with or drive with in narrow streets . Maybe you will need to go to an engineering shop and get one made to your specs.

I'll go so far as to say I don't recall even seeing one trailer on the road. Heck, how often do you even see a trailer hitch in LOS?
  14. are you privy to whatever information may have lead up to these precautions?

    I didn't think so.

"Living in fear, or live with fear.

The big difference can be seen here.

I could not help but notice the large number of armed guards around the heavy fortified US consulate in Chiang Mai Thailand. Armed guards at the gate and along every wall and corner, security cameras and what have you. The UK consulate near by in stark contrast has no armed guards (that we could see) or heavy defenses, just one or two very nice helpful Thai men who smile and rush to open the door for people. What does it say about the people? Some live in fear and some learn to live with the fear."

Do you mean Americas policy of making friends around the world? Is this the way you get rewarded? Maybe it's time to review your foreign policies.

    .

You are a funny guy. A full blown "Sh.t for Brains" troll but nevertheless a funny guy.
