  1. Keep track of foreigners on limited, specific purpose visas,

Actually it has nothing to do with that as those on such visas do not report there address as they do not stay more than 90 days at a time and any exit resets the clock. It is a requirement of the immigration act of more than 30 years ago so not something new.

That is correct. It is from a police order made under military dictatorship in the 70s, as far as know, that fell into disuse, as it was considered unnecessary but got revived a few years ago. It serves no purpose today and doesn't stop people from going missing like that English lad who disappeared for a couple of months shacked up with a tart and caused his family in the UK to go through God knows what trauma. The only reason is to give Immigration a sense of greater control over foreigners and be able to tell other government agencies that they are doing something about foreign mafias, even though they aren't.

Before you flame me for being an ungrateful guest in the country, it doesn't affect me because I have had PR for over 15 years and never had to do 90 day reporting.

    .

What is PR in thailand that allows you not to report?

Agree..but to help the hard pressed officials, I would suggest a minor rule change. All long stay visa holders who are owner occupiers to report annually.

I think, this discussion is unnecessary. We decided to live in Thailand. So we have to deal with the advantages and disadvantages the staying in Thailand is associated with, if there are purposes or not. We all know, that decisions, made up by Thais sometimes lack perception completely. Remember the tying together of boats, with their engines running, on the Chao Phraya, to speed up the current towards the Gulf of Siam. These type of decisions and laws, i.e. alcohol sales ban from 14-17, instead of just asking for a valid ID, are abundant in TH, and therefore it is much more efficient not to discuss those matters. Nothing will change for the better anyhow, as long the government is exhaustingly working to fill their pockets and to discredit their political opponent.

    .

    SINCERELY,

I think your's is an excellent post. It's far from the usual one I'd expect which is the "love it or leave it variety". Many TV members love to shout out "go back to your home country if you have any complaint". They're the REALLY intelligent members of the board. 555

Yes there's actually nothing that will change in this country other than an evolutionary change based on an epiphany by a government officer of how to squeeze more corruption money from somewhere.

As expats we have the choice to accept and whine about the graft and corruption or move on to some other place.

I personally make sure I don't over extend myself here even though I'm currently completely satisfied with my little world.

  3. Wow, you must be having a really slow day! Aren't there worse (much worse) problems in Pattaya that you can complain about -- women loitering on Beach Road; sewers that don't drain during the heavy rains (oh, sorry, I'll wait a few months for that one); litter everywhere, and on and on......? Of all of the problems in Pattaya, the speed boats south of Balhi Hai Pier rank, IMHO, in the bottom 2 (or maybe 3) percent. Ok, you slipped and fell -- sorry about that... Next time, pedal around the boat storage area, and don't drive through it. Problem solved ......

    .

Gosh you bring up enough problems as it is and now the speedboat matter.

It's pretty certain it'd take a long time to address these issues in Pattaya as is the case in all of Thailand when it comes to similar matters.

It sounds as if you're trying to make an intelligent suggestion. You should know that's not acceptable in LOS. Please go back to the drawing board.

  5. I can see a purpose for it and this thread will not influence the requirement. But surly reporting to the local police station would make more sense, they are the people who come out and verify my location/situation after my annual Retirement Extension (using the map I have to provide to Immigration) so obviously the right hand is talking to the left.

I see your viewpoint bdenner and understand you are happy with the way things are. As many have stated countless times before, the issue they have is the lack of consistency.

Each immigration office is operated as a private fiefdom with rules only on to itself. An address verification letter in my local immigration office costs ฿500. instead of being free. In other areas of Thailand it costs much more. One can never be sure what to expect. In most Western countries as well as a couple of SEA countries there's a clearer requirement for things. thailand is far from making things clear as to requirements in terms of enforcement.

I don't know anyone in my city who has had a visit to confirm information from either the BIB or immigration.

And as far as complaining goes, I'm certain anything posted on Thaivisa is no more worthwhile than a pimple on an elephant's butt

  6. Great! Kill 2 birds with one stone.

was at phibuin yesterday and she told me no older than one month for stat dec
    .

I've been told the same 30 days time frame from two seperate imm. offices.

The 30 day limit also applies to the address verification letter as well. After 30 days I was told i'd need a new one along with the mandatory ฿500 fee.

    Your mileage may however vary.

  7. Firstly I was the person that was assaulted and before you all jump on the band wagon and say I deserved to have the shit, kicked out of me. There are always two sides of a story and although I was a bit worse for where I did not or would not ever hit a woman, we were having words with the girl behind the bar who said that we had broken a cue, we were not even playing pool, but according to the paper we broke something else. The police have told me it was a cue, still don't believe it. We were about to leave when we were attacked, at no time we we were throwing balls or hitting people with a cue. I did throw one ball after being attacked,as there was nothing else to use as the Thai lads had all the cues beating me.the police have told me that I was rowing with the owner and the Thais were protecting her, but at no stage I laid a hand on her.even if I had broken something i did not deserve what was handed out.to the other guy saying I am using my army career as excuse is talking ball, I also never said I was a marine I was RCT and proud of it. To the other guy that said he had mates there that saw it all you are telling lies, you also said a para medic guy just stood and watched shame on him.Lastly someone said I am a know thug, I am a family man that's been here 9 years and run a local football team. Please get you facts right before you slate someone.

Just as I suspected a few too many beers and a bit rowdy, I can honestly say I do hope those that think you deserved a pack of dogs booting you senseless do not experience the same....they will change their tune.

Yes funny how so many Thai visa posters were similar to the Thais in being quick to get the boot in.

As I stated before it doesn't take much for a bunch of Thais to start whacking someone especially if it is perceived that he is an easy mark ie alone or drunk

It happens so frequently yet we still have many posters in denial using the same old arguments eg It hasn't happened to me and I know how to behave etc etc

Whilst they can keep getting away with beating up farangs without fear of prosecution don't expect anything to change in the near future.

All the same traits as pack animals. Difference is these ones online can read and write!

    .

    Who says they can read?

  8. Well there were actually TWO versions of the one side of the story posted. One source said the gent damaged a hookah, the second a snooker cue (or 'rod' as they called it).

Either way, it is indeed funny to see the moral highgrounders applying their outrage when the only vile behaviour on show here is from the Thai lads; the rest is mere hearsay.

    .

I see no reason why this shouldn't go viral.

unless that happens the authorities won't give a damn.

  9. Nice foundation work..... :-)

I don't suppose they are using the same engineers that were used on this one in Shanghai.

    collapsed-china-buliding-1.jpg

Not sure if it was that building , but in a photo of a giant Chinese building laying on its side, it showed the concrete foundation pilings were hollow and all snapped off. Will be curious what charges will be leveled against the Thai building department for looking the other way while this poorly designed and constructed building was being completed...Oh sorry just dreaming, time to get back to the real world !!

Yes that is the same building with the hollow pilings with no rebar to boot. Link below.

    .

    Well rebar does cost money.

  10. is there anyone in Pattaya that is not a marine, commando, sas, seceret service etc, but how ever though you are if you go looking for trouble you can always find it, why go running to the cops when you do, you look for it be man enough to handle it

Don't forget lawyers, airline pilots and astronauts. Outside of Angeles I read it's the world's highest concentration.

  11. I called them and they acted like they could care less. Just like with BBC and ASN. So all the shows you have been loyal to are cancelled. Idol cancelled on Thai TV.

    SUCH A CORRUPT ORGANIZATION.

Please complain with calls and emails.

Star World is owned by Murdoch and Fox.

Whats the difference who its owned by?

If True want to cancel the channel for whatever reason, they can.

If Star World wants to cancel True's license, they can.

If you do not like the programming you either change or cancel.

NO matter how much you scream and shout that TV must do this and that, it is company's choice what to show and it is consumers choice what to watch and subscribe to.

    .

Sometimes customer feedback either of a positive or negative nature results in a company making changes.

  12. Is your wife Thai? As if so, she is already covered under Thailand's universal health care scheme. (As is her son). Which is why insurance costs are so high in Thailand, very few Thais bother with it as they all have cover already.

Of course, the government scheme will only cover her care in government facilities. So if your goal is to ensure she can get care in private hospitals then yes, private insurance would be needed. I just mention this as many expats are not aware that Thailand has universal health care coverage for its citizens. It is a comparatively new thing.

    .

Thanks for the reply Sheryl. Yes she is Thai. I'm aware of the medical system in place for Thais. Her family has had to avail themselves so many times for her son. And yes my goal is to have more options available. I've been in a few (3) private hospitals as well as a Thai hospital for her son. While I have no criticism of the Thai system, I'd still like to have a few things available which I didn't see in the government hospital.

Overall, I don't have "sticker shock" here with the price of medical insurance. I pay far more than what Bupa, for instance, would charge for her coverage and I was under a company plan which offered free medical insurance at the time I retired some years ago. Things change and with the global (mostly)economy tanking as it did, I now pay a lot more than "free". Life is nothing but evolution so I just go with the program and try to smile.

  13. Wow it must have been some pretty serious fraud if he was sentenced to community service! Doesn't interpol have more important things to do then go after someone who skips out on community service like maybe some of those crooked banksters!

Which crooked "banksters"? The ones that haven't been accused of any criminal offences never mind been convicted?

    .

    That'd be a start.

  14. .

It was not 12 Mill. they got, but more then 50 Mill.

Sp something is waiting them when they come out !

They just took something that actually not belonged to the person who kept it in his house, so real theft ??? NO !

It appears that this was a case of people relieving a thief of the money he got through thievery. So agree no theft.

  15. Learned to drive in Canada/Ireland

have driven in - UK, France, Italy, Portugal, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico (cancun, pvr, mazatlan), Dominican Republic, Laos, Thailand, Morocco, Tunisia, Jamaica, Belgium and a few other places.

Best thing I did was get de-programmed from my western brainwashing on how to drive. Makes going for a spin here much more relaxing. Yes everything you have listed applies to driving in Dog-Leg-Shire, South Yorkshire but hey that is what I love about Thailand. I am a good enough driver that I don't need rules!

Try going for a spin in the far north east between Chiang Khan and Nakhon Phanom along the Mekong River Route. Truly one of Thailands amazing drives.

    .

I think this is what concerns many here...

"I am a good enough driver that I don't need rules!"

  16. Boners have been critical to human history.

What if the Pangolin produced some crazy Matrix powers boner? You know you want it.

Sure some people eating say Pangolin doesn't do that but have they actually tried it?

Eating oysters with their high zinc content is supposed to increase testosterone production and I have personally verified this as very effective.

So what if the Pangolin was beyond category sex power but none of these activist losers have ever tried it.

"What if it worked"? That phrase is essential to human history and the future of mankind.

    .

Are you sure it wasn't the mercury you were feeling?
