I've been waiting for this. The SSA Form 7162 "Are you still alive American SSA Pensioner" form to show up. I check today while passing the Post Office. In the past these were mailed out in June. We'd have them by now. I've nothing in my mailbox other than a new Voter Registration Card. But no SSA Form 7162 "Are you still alive American SSA Pensioner" form to show up. Has anyone else experience something different?

I have neutered a bunch of temple dogs out of my own pocket over the last few years. Due to lack of funding (it's out of my own pocket) we concentrate on females. Well, if the females are spade, what can a male do. "You should do the males too." They are not my dogs. Pony up some THB and I'll work on the males too if anyone wants to contribute. Maybe I'll set up a foundation and a Thai equivalent of a 'Go Fund Me' page. We do a lot of good work, but it's all out of my own pocket. I think our vet lost count of the number of dogs and cats (and birds) we brought to her when the count went over 25. I can't even keep track any more.

We have two houses on adjacent plots of land. For whatever reason, if I keep my electric use moderated in the guest house - we don't even pay electricity. I'm not sure how that works but I don't complain. The main house isn't that bad. During the peak of the hot season we paid maybe 3000 THB ($100 or less). Compared to the US that is a pittance.

@KhunLA Where do you live. I know they are plentiful to the point of being a nuisanse in places like Lopburi, but I'm just never have seen on in North Thailand. I wonder if it was someone's pet. But now that I've looked up and seen a picture, it looked like a macaque up in the 15kg range. Personally I'm not a fan of monkeys and avoid places, like Lopburi, where there are wayyyy to many of them. Like elephants, the forests are great places for monkeys. I have no desire to interact with them. Chipmunks are cute and I like to feed them (in the US). Monkeys are not cute and I don't want anything to do with them. However, I didn't want to see it hit by a car either.

Yep. In the far left lane and then shot across the road to a teak tree in the median. It could jump for sure.

What Movies or TV shows are you watching (2022)
connda replied to CharlieH's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I see that Bosch: Legacy was released in May. IMDB gives in a 8.6. I've always been a fan of both the books and the TV series. I'll have to check this out. I also see that Reacher is out with Jack Reacher played by Alan Ritchson who at a bulked 6'2'' is a little more believable then Tom Cruise. Don't get me wrong. I like Tom Cruise as an actor. This will have to go on my list too. -

Moral of the story? Don't break laws be they immigration law or contract law. He made his bed. Now? Actions have consequences. -

Health Ministry Reaffirms Stance Discouraging Recreational Cannabis
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
But they will benefit by tourist coming for recreational use, as well as medical use. They don't have to 'condone' it, just don't criminalize it. It can be a major tourist draw for a certain segment of tourists. It's a win-win situation. Just let it go. You'll essentially have Pai nationwide. "But we want rich well heeled tourists." Take some classes in economics. That lower class in sufficient numbers offsets the spending power of the rich class as they frequent different merchants. Money gets spread around more equitably. If the idiots decide to walk down the street with a joint - fine them 2000 THB just like smoking a cigarette. -
I was driving up Highway 11 toward Lamphun City yesterday. I thought I saw a large dog in the road. Slowed down and tapped the horn a couple of times. The 'dog' went into a crouch, crossed to the outside lane and jumped about three meters up a teak tree. That was the first monkey I've ever seen in Thailand. I find that odd as I live surrounded by national parks and provincial forests but have never seen a monkey in the 15 years I've lived here. Very strange. The areas where I saw him isn't a forest or park, so that was rather odd. About 4 kilometers South of Doi Dtii (Big Buddha) intersection.

That's convenient. It's right next to the pharmacy I use. I'm pretty happy with the cheap stuff. Reminds me of the 1960s. Now THC, but that works for me now.

It's not that difficult. Research and do it yourself. However, if you want the convenience of an agent, make sure you have a well-know and reputable agent.

Hows that explain that we get our electricity from coal fired plants in Lampang. They have sunk costs in equipment, operations, and local strip-mined coal. What is really happening is that the corporate elites have found another way to invoke predatory wealth transfers by imposing austerity on commoners and absorbing the new excess revenue and profits.

Thailand's modern "international" standard Zebra crossings: But will drivers actually stop? The answer? "No." My first week in Chiang Mai a whole lot of years ago, I almost got killed in a cross-walk. Why? I applied Western "common knowledge" to a Thai road with cross-walks which had flashing lights and the whole nine-yards. A motorcycle missed me by inches. Literally - inches. From that point onward, that lesson has never been lost on me. At crosswalks I keep my eyes on oncoming traffic, as well as looking in the opposite direction if the street is one-way. What Thai cares if they are driving the wrong way on a major road? . I've slapped a few cars who failed to stop a few times as they run the crosswalk's Red Light and are with-in reach. I'm too old to do that now. There is no answer to this. Thailand fails to make it a safety priority and charge those who endanger others with criminal charges when their arrogance causing injury and death. Pay 50K THB to the injured or dead. That doesn't offset the wage earning potential of the victim. The offender should take care of the financial burden they imposed on the victim's family. By the way. My own daughter was killed in a car accident by a 20 year old who was driving like he was F1 driver. In the US. So I'm not giving the United State a pass. How did the US judicial system handle that? A $400 fine for the driver. In civil court he filed bankruptcy. 25 years later he has the American dream going for him with property, bling, a wife, and two kids. What I'm I left with? A huge, unfillable hole. Yeah - life's not fair. But I know that. So, that is about what happens here in Thailand. Kill someone with you car and there are no real consequences. Give the deceased family 100K THB and all is good. But it's not. Ever.

Vehicles entering Thailand’s Khao Yai Park subject to emission checks
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've no problem with that as long as they are being selective, i.e., checking the obvious smoke-belching cars and truck. The Thai transportation ministry doesn't check vehicles 5 years and under.
