If not, what "stranded tourists" will do?
They'll enjoy their stay in a Thai Immigration Detention Center while awaiting deportation.

But, but, but.....I was under the impression that Thais were now patriotically travelling en-mass to tourist destinations across Prathet Thai and Domestic Tourism was going to save the day. Well, for those who still have a job.

The more you test, the more cases you find. Direct correlation. Which should be no surprise.
- If you want to ignore reality - don't test the public (Thailand Model)
- If you want to stare reality in the face and then freak out about all the non-symptomatic cases then use those results to go full dictatorship on your country - mass test the public (US, AU, NZ Model)

And now the mask slips off (pun intended).
Wealthy people are starting to smart. Not the super wealthy 0.01% who control the media and managed the sock puppets in government and who are enriching themselves from the economic 'new normal.'
Nope. The other 0.99% are now starting to squirm as well as the upper 10% who also wield a limited amount of sway in government circles but who make their revenue exclusively from business that will never function in the 'new normal' that has been foisted on the world by a class of neo-authoratarians.
Now it get interesting as a subset of the wealthy start to push back.-

This is like reading a fiction thriller recommended by a friend who dropped some spoilers, so your pretty sure you know who the novel is going to end but your simply riveted by the story-line and how it's going to reach it's conclusion.

Honest question. How come you believe that. They can't even bring themselves to decriminalize no less legalize kratom which is essentially high-octane caffeine.
Cannabis? They pay lip service to decriminalization/legalization in order to juice the public into accepting their plans that primarily benefit established Thai corporations. But past lip service I've seen nothing to convince me that is any willingness to legalize pot no less decriminalize it.
They're still busting anyone involved in growing, distributing, or using marijuana.
Why do you believe this is going to change? Basing my assumptions of modern Thai history and cultural norms which are highly resistance to change - well, unless there is money to be made. But even then???-

The US already has a big market with their own product as has Europe with Holland as the main supplier dont know about Asia but highly unlikely they will have much chance of breaking into the markets of the first two with any great success .
Thailand is still dragging it's feet regarding regulations concerning cannabis. Totally schizophrenic. They don't want to legalize or deregulate because then maybe citizens might want to enjoy the pleasant effects cannabis without a hangover they get from 'legal' alcohol - and by Buddha those who rule over the commoners won't have that!!! So they try to commercialize cannabis without fully legalizing it - and this is what you get. CBC products which is still difficult to obtain unless you fall into a very, very narrow range of authorized ailments, and then attempt to grow cannabis commercially but with so many regulations and regulatory checks as to make it nonviable. At this point I don't believe they have even decriminalized it.
So, with one hand the beckon the commoners to accept their cannabis cultivation and export plans (which make the wealthy even wealthier), and with the other hand the punch them in the face should they actually use cannabis - again, outside of a very, very narrow range of ailments or under highly regulated conditions.
The extremely wealthy who wanted to capitalize of Thai cannabis will never obtain broad market share unless they they convince their sock puppets to decriminalize or legalize cannabis - which they will never do. Commoners are meant to suffer. Buddha said so, or so they think. These people always wanted to tap the export market. This was never meant for commoner Thais or anyone else living here. But - ya can't have it both ways. At best the Thai market will product 'boutique' products but they will never capture market share globally.-

It's a bit like a self-inflicted bullet wound. The first one to the chest wasn't fatal, but they'll continue to shoot themselves in the feet, possibly until they bleed out, but most likely until they are crippled.-

From my calculations it only takes 225 foreign expat retirees on the 65000 THB a month income scheme deposited into a Thai bank to generate 14.67 million THB in deposits in one month.
So the 80 million Thai are depositing a fraction of a satang and 225 foreign expats retirees are responsible for the rest? Holy Cow Batman!!! Where are all the Thai bankers singing the praises to foreign expats who are responsible to stashing millions and million in Thai banks every month, especially when 80 million Thais only managed to deposit 14.67 million THB in half a year???
As someone say, they need to run these articles by a proofreader who understands basic math before publishing tosh like this. But - good for a laugh. ????-

80 million people (greater than the population of Thailand) deposited the US dollar equivalent of approximately $450,000 dollars in Thai banks.
Big Whoop! Everyone tossed a satang into their accounts or else their account accrued a satang in interest.
Utter tosh!-

-- Foreign visitors make up two-thirds of nation’s tourism income
-- Tourists may need to wear GPS wristbands, face quarantine
Then future foreign vistors will make up about one-fifth or less of nations's tourism income
Few foreigner will come with the current and proposed restrictions in place. However - other places in the world WILL open up and Thailand will lose market share to those locations.

If a farang moves into a place that's sub-2,500 Baht per month, is he basically asking to get burglarized?
Does anyone here have experience shacking up (for an extended period of time, as the sole occupant) in such venues in TH?
1. No
2. Yes
I lived in Thai apartments for about 6 years. Apartments in Bangkok, Korat, and Chiang Mai. Never had a problem. Don't keep anything super valuable, All the apartments I lived in had closets. Chain the closet door handles together or lock them if they have a lock. Put a lockable door knob cover on the outside and make sure you have lockable windows before you move in.
That's about as safe as your gonna get. After that - don't worry about it.
I felt safer at all my apartments in Thailand than I ever did city-living in my home county. Enjoy 'native' life on the cheap and save your money for other things. All you need the room for is to sleep and for down-time. If your young or young at heart you shouldn't be hanging out in you room anyway. You should be out enjoying city-life. Have fun!-

This is pretty much like owning a restaurant that has no customers and encouraging your wife to eat there ... you are not really bringing in any new money.
And the long-stay expats who live here and who provide Thailand with a steady supply of new money are treated like house plants.

And there it is. In black and white. No open borders until 'immunity passports' arrive. Simple.
High season 2021. Mandatory vaccination or no entry into the country. And it will need to be "the correct and accepted" vaccine to boot. Stay tuned! -

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Amelia had fled the country via Suvarnabhumi Airport on August 22, 2019 on flight EK 0385 heading to Dubai,” said Krisana. “The immigration officials did not detain her since at the time no arrest warrant had been issued. There is no record of her returning to Thailand.”
