With a number of detractors going on right now, shooting at the mall fresh on their minds, wariness of the Chinese economy, fear of a global recession, and now the strengthening of the Thai baht to the USD these all put a damper on the Chinese tourists ability to travel outside of their country and specifically Thailand.

Not at all surprised by the Thai government action on this. They have been doing this for many decades now against numerous groups leaving the strife torn areas of their home countries.
Of course, the UN isn't exactly expediting matters like this at all. They continue to work at a snail's pace while riding around in luxury vehicles, living in very expensive accommodations, and sending their children to very costly international schools.

It seems that the groom has a very fragile ego. Took offence to his new bride's interactions with others that day and decided to go out to his car and then start shooting the bride, her sister and her mother.

The brain drain will continue while Thailand pays peanuts for talent.
Exactly! Neither of my two luk krung sons have any desire to return to Thailand to work. They have Thai citizenship, attended school here, and have native fluency in both Thai and English. However, there is no comparison to their earning potential here in Thailand compared to what they earn abroad.

Nothing new other than the Thai government openly discussing this. How long have US law enforcement agencies (CIA, FBI, DEA, etc.) been in Thailand? Maybe 50 - 60 years?

Lots of different possibilities. Most likely some type of money/drug debt or a jilted former BF/husband back to reclaim his "true love".

Not me but a good friend of mine his Mom & Dad, both Americans, moved to Bangkok back in the early 70's after a few years in Seoul. They lived in Bangkok until he retired from the banking world around 2010. They then moved to Bang Saray and have lived there since. They are both in their 80's now. My friend has lived in Bangkok since about the age of eight. He's in his late 50's now. Other than 4-5 years he spent in university in the USA he has lived his whole life in Bangkok.

I met a Thai girl who was in grad school at a university in my country a very long time ago. Have bounced around a bit between a few countries since then but still keep a house and a condo in Thailand as well as my home country.

Maybe next time she will NOT invite someone back to her place. Especially someone she just met. It's just not a smart move.

Definitely more to this story. Most likely she has someone above her that she reports to since her "commission" is only 200 baht.

Really doesn't affect me that much. I don't hit the bar areas that much anymore and when I do I'm on the Skytrain before midnight to take me home.

I was expecting the Super Sleuths of this forum to quickly identify the location of this hotel and give a very good idea of which hotel it happened at.

I have lived in the Dusit area, Sukhumvit Soi 10, Kasetsart University area, and Samut Prakan but just a few metres from Bangkok. I have actually liked all the places that I have lived for different reasons. They all had their pluses and minuses. Overall, I now prefer the suburbs to the CBD.

She is 37 so I think so.

I had heard about this earlier when it first hit the news. A terrible and tragic end to this young student. I feel very sorry for his family in Thailand. May he RIP.

Not sure what motivated him to return to Thailand. He's most likely regretting that decision right now.

Arab tourists.....Indian tourists.....Chinese tourists.....Japanese tourists............ Russian tourists
All saviours of the Thai economy.....am I missing out any groups/nationalities that tend to frequent Thailand????
No, those are the only groups that frequent Thailand. Like the Russians, the rest should all be granted 90 day visa exempt/on arrival. (sarcasm intended)

Yes! What happened to the "reactions"?

Would be great if this were to be extended to the European Union countries as well as the UK, USA, Australia, & New Zealand.

Why isn't your employer taking care of all the visa issues including the expenses?

There are a lot of talented Thai doctors practicing medicine in western countries. It's been that way since the 1970's. Most went on some type of scholarship or fellowship for advanced specialized training. When it came time to return to Thailand they just found an employer to support their application for residency. The old joke was where do you find the best Thai doctors? Try NYC, LA, London, etc.
