If you drive too long in deep water there is a chance that you ECU (engine control unit) gets wet and will short out. If this happens, you need a new ECU. This is expensive.
Considering the ECU is cabin mounted on 99% of cars if it gets wet thats the least of your problems.

Last week the EPZ 2 @ Laem Chabang was well flooded, water would have been atleast 2 foot deep, my Honda city made it thru although i was driving in 1st gear with the foot on the brake pedal and the accelerator buried to the floor.
So im gunna say 2 foot is too deep, 1 foot maybe for a small sedan but defo not 2.
If your in a new age Mini, 6 inches is the maximum as the air intake will get flooded in water deeper than this.

Assuming the local place can carry out any necessary repairs and servicing, is there any benefit to buying from a main dealer? Price is the same.
You will probably get better service at the "local place", I Took my 1 yr old Click into Mityon (pattaya) for its 1000km service, al seemed fine and off i went, parked it up for the night at home only to come out the next morning to find a massive pool of oil on the ground, seems they forgot to tighten the sump plug, happy days riding along with oil dripping onto the ground in front of the rear wheel, NOT.
It now gets serviced at "the local place".

I presume you mean the annual road tax? You need the car registration book, the old tax, your compulsory insurance certificate and that is it, I believe (but cannot confirm) that there is a fine for any unpaid tax that was due.
Road tax ??? nah, drivers licence.

I assume due to the length of time since it expired i will need to jump though all the hoops to renew, whats actually involved, i dont have an International Driving Permit but my Aus licence is still valid.
Paperwork, medical cert, copy of visa, copy of work permit, what else is required, do i need a residency cert from Immigration or does my work permit cover this one.

2) Man, its hot. 2 hours hard work and you will realise why thai builders work so slowly. Westerners find it difficult to do manual labour in thailand, leave it to the locals.
You work an office job dont ya......Im a "farang" i do manual labour every day, 10hrs a day 5 days a week, i pull a "western" salary though.

My subscription is due for renewal ( i prepaid 6 months) they just rock up to the door expecting me to hand over cash, they wont leave me a bill so that i can go into the office and pay, whats the go with that shit.

Whilst laptop HDD's are relatively easy to swap out, i cant imagine there would be one available that would be so drastically cheaper to warrant this practice to sell the laptop cheaper, surely there could not be more than a couple of hundred baht difference in OEM HDD's could there.
Is it possible to find out what brand this supposed "new" HDD is, most acers ive opened up all had Hitachi Hdd's installed.

Was in Tukom today to buy* a CM V8, they had them in 775 and 1366 but not the 1156, i did spy a thermalrite Ultra 120 for the 1156 though.

How about a Suzuki Hayate, 125cc automatic, goes real real well (carries my 120kg along suk road @100km/h comfortably), gets decent fuel economy and has huge under seat storage.
