And in fact this was nonsense and simply part of a fantasy to support an overall superior attitude on your part, perhaps analogous to Brits who find that they alone believe they are superior. Not that they care; if you know, you know. Chagrin must arise sometimes from the intellectual heirs of Isaac Newton, John Stuart Mills, Bertrand Russell, Alan Turing, etc. to be outright banned from countries who know them well, From Barcelona to Malia: how Brits on holiday have made themselves unwelcome But in Thailand so much disappointment arises when expected servility from their natural inferiors isn't forthcoming. Hence the need to reaffirm superiority, not to mention the constant whinging.

No, merely a myth perpetuated in tourist guides and by ignorant forum posters. Bangkok was for R&R. U-Tapao had its own girlie bar area nearby called Newland. Nothing in Pattaya interesting except as place to relax and fish for few days. I personally know a bomber pilot who was based at U-Tapao who confirmed exactly that. Been discussed many times on the forum. Pattaya grew after the GI's had long gone. Germans and Ozzies in the 70s transformed it. Really took off about 78 from the offshore oil worker business.

"Social Security" for Thais. A question.
BigStar replied to swissie's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
They don't, so irrelevant question. -
The "you" addressed the OP specifically. The OP says that it's his problem with Brave: won't open. Doesn't know why. Asserts that it's in fact a "known problem," implying some research towards troubleshooting; and he didn't ask for help with that particular problem. I tend to stay on point. All the laughable advice that he should use Brave comes from posters who didn't actually read the OP, a not uncommon practice. He's looking for an alternative.

Italian Fugitive Arrested in Thailand for Overstaying and Robbery Charges

Cashed in his life insurance? Sittin' on a gold mine. More of our pensioners should do that, live larger. -
Keeping stress down is ironically one of the major Principles that our ANF Health & Longevity Experts use to justify not dieting and exercising: they find it stressful--incredibly, a lot more stressful than running after docs, meds, surgeries, hospitals, paying all those medical bills, and worrying about health insurance. Yet exercise is known as a great psychological stress reliever. Physical stress thru exercise is a good thing right down to the cellular level, contributes to strength, mobility, health and longevity. A good diet takes away a lot of metabolic stress, meaning better health etc. Preemptive strike: no one's talking about overdoing it. --P. D. Mangan

No, they don't find this reality "harsh" at all but rather expected, given the relative size of Thailand. Nor do they imagine Thailand has any big influence on the outside world. They might think people might have heard of it and might like Thai food. And so they do, generally. Thais justly have a sense that their position in Thailand is far superior to that of foreigners. Otherwise, they have a sense that their culture is different, as indeed it is. They feel awkward with foreigners. The innate, silly sense of superiority that, say, Brits feel towards Thais and most everyone else in the world (notably, here, Americans, Russians, and Chinese) is partly racial and mostly provincial; unconscious, not logically based on any astonishing Brit inventions such as fish & chips, though that seems actually to have originated in 15th century Portugal. No matter. Part of the mythical baggage. I observe that most Westerner-Thai relationships fail because the Westerner is unable to jettison his sense of his own superiority. It contributes to his general boorishness and the desire to escape. If they encounter a lot of lowlifes in Western pubs, yes. Nonsense. For example, the cave rescue captured the world's attention and at least 3 movies/documentaries have been made about it. The cave is now a tourist attraction. The recent suicide of the team captain was reported in all the major international media. And just two days ago the liberation of the Thai hostages from Gaza got international anticipation and attention. It's a continuing saga. Amid all this pontificating, it's clear you don't have much of a clue. As in most topics negative towards Thais, the boomerang effect holds: the Thai "issue" actually refers to the poster himself.

In fact some sites display better on Chrome. It has such a dominant market share that developers target it first. Indeed, many prefer Chrome's DevTools over Firefox's Web Developer tools and so develop their sites initially using Chrome. Sometimes one's Firefox is already under such stress from having so many tabs open that a switch to Chrome for additional browsing may result in faster display. And perhaps one's Firefox is simply broken for the moment, for whatever reason. Perhaps its just on a particular site of interest at the moment. A reason could be the different extensions used on different browsers. Could be a matter of Javascript customization, for example, handling page refreshes. Once I needed to use Dark Reader on Firefox to achieve dark backgrounds with white text. When I posted on TVF, it made all quotations display with dark backgrounds on everyone else's browser. Their Lordships warned me about it, so I just quickly switched to SRWare Iron for posting, to be sure. The principle of having a backup for something currently working well is rather common, when you think about it. :) Nobody cares whether you have a backup for anything or not, however.

Used to be a poster here who loved Opera. I do find Opera really stable under the weight of 30 tabs or so. Opera used to break a lot of sites because it followed real standards, not Microsoft's imposition of its own standards. Seems not to do that much now for whatever reason. I'm still not really fond of the interface. Recent Opera GX has an annoying startup. Lots of good buzz about Vivaldi recently on the 'net, haven't tried it. Needs customization, I'm not convinced I need Vivaldi enough to bother messing around with it. Brave, I use on my phone, like it there. I don't care for its self-promotion. But it doesn't start for you on your PC now. I use Chromium on Linux (besides Firefox), it's in all the repositories. Works fine. I add Google search in, however, as it's better for most things. On the Windows PC I mostly use Firefox Developer. My Chrome alternative for years has been SRWare Iron. Privacy oriented out of the box, logical interface. I add all the usual extensions that make Chrome usable. https://www.srware.net/iron/ You might take a look at "ungoogled Chrome" as well. Has a definite following.

Right, eating less won't make you go up 1 or 2 kg. So actually you'd eaten more, the "extra" junk and beer, then you stop eating the more, thereby eating less.
-
Yes, if you notice yourself gaining weight, you simply eat less. Otherwise, you burn off those useless carbs via exercise.
-
Calorie restriction is indeed simple. That's why so few people are overweight, and there's no obesity problem in the States.

Once good friend of mine same, but open stash. Bags of Hershey's Kisses and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups kept beside the recliner for continual snacking throughout the day, alternating with meds from a big basket. Millions paid out from gov't health insurance for docs, meds, and surgeries kept her alive until age 72. Lived that short and happy life promoted by our Life Coaches here, but died in her chair, not with a smile during a bonk. Love more those who'll depart earlier.

Italian Fugitive Arrested in Thailand for Overstaying and Robbery Charges
BigStar replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Exactly. It's long been our righteous contention that all foreign crims should go free, and no arrests made for overstaying, drunk driving, etc. until all Thai criminality is first completely eradicated and the Red Bull heir behind bars. Same practice as in our home countries. Besides, Thais get to stay in Thailand without all that visa nonsense, so foreigners deserve the same right. Who's got all the money, pays all the bills, and prevents the entire economy from collapsing? You know who. It's good we can always rely on some posters to make this eminently logical, fair, and moral argument for just treatment of the foreign crims. Most are innocent anyway, merely failed to pay bribes, and just our lads havin' a bit of fun. Who amongst us is without sin? And it's so easy to forget one's visa expiration date. Several years of forgetting is nothin'. -
More Thai youth at risk of diabetes due to their eating habits

No, carbs don't have to be highly processed to cause the insulin spikes that create insulin resistance etc. Of course, processed carbs are the worst. I know two diabetics personally who ate no processed carbs. Well, I did know; one died already. And the insulin issue is at the root of most of the other problems mentioned in your copy & paste. And you've ignored again the point I disagreed with you about: most Thais don't acquire those carbs from 7/11 and McD's. You backpedaled a bit with mom & pop stores, but missed the larger picture. -

BigStar replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Carbs are proven as the main factor driving insulin resistance > pre-diabetes > diabetes. Sugary drinks, a mainstay of young Thais, contain no fat. As Thais (or others) become insulin resistant, they eat more, esp carbs to raise glucose levels. Then eating more of everything, owing to the hunger driven by insulin drops, obviously will contribute to weight gain; and so, even worse metabolic health. The typical characteristics of metabolic syndrome follow, the high BP, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, heart disease, etc. -
Your BIOS should then default to internal graphics. You can always just clear CMOS. Sorted.

You're not on point; try to think clearly even about carbs. You were implying that thin people can't be diabetic, which I addressed. Obviously, being overweight is a risk factor but, you see, not the ONLY one. You ain't all free and clear by virtue of technically normal weight. -

Mom and pop THAI shops, yes, much cheaper. But even cheaper: food carts. I see the kids in the neighborhood around my gym all hitting the food carts and food vendor area soon as they get home from school and coming back with sugary drinks in plastic bags. And at school they eat a lot of sugary snacks from the vendors there. Plus of course the noodles and rice. Soon they're carb addicted and consume far too many in the future, leading to the diabetes epidemic we see today. -
You normally want to use your graphics card, but now you're getting your kickers in a twist about the internal graphics setting and port that you aren't going to use anyway. The BIOS doesn't much like the internal graphics being enabled while you have that card in its slot. Set it to disabled and use your computer for whatever. If you want to use the internal graphics, take out the card, and reset the parameter.

Hmm. Last time when I didn't do the online application and went to the office (Jomtien), they just took out the old slip and stapled in a new one. Didn't fill out anything or supply copies of anything. I think others in the thread did the same? I hope the online continues working.

"Overweight" is a red herring and obviously a source of misinformation here, including by yourself. --https://www.sjchs.org/smart-living-home/fall-2019/diabetes-risk-factors In your own case, you exercise a lot and in fact practice your own little carb-restriction by eating less food if you see you're getting overweight. Note that you do keep careful watch on that HbA1c and FBS, as well you should. And the inevitable demonizing of 7/11 and McD's is misplaced. Thais are just richer than they used to be, and eating habits have changed as well for the worse. So they generally now just eat lot more sugary and high carb foods, in particular refined carbs, beginning in childhood. In the countryside, they have less money, so they eat less Thai junk anyway; and they get more exercise out in the sticks.
