OK, you probably need to send the guys the memo: Highly trained competitive middle-aged athletes underwent two 31-day isocaloric diets (HCLF or LCHF) in a randomized, counterbalanced, and crossover design while controlling calories and training load. . . . . We demonstrated: (i) equivalent high-intensity performance (@~85%VO2max), fasting insulin, hsCRP, and HbA1c without significant body composition changes across groups; (ii) record high peak fat oxidation rates (LCHF:1.58 ± 0.33g/min @ 86.40 ± 6.24%VO2max; 30% subjects > 1.85 g/min); (iii) higher total, LDL, and HDL cholesterol on LCHF; (iv) reduced glucose mean/median and variability on LCHF. . . . These results: (i) challenge whether higher carbohydrate intake is superior for athletic performance, even during shorter-duration, higher-intensity exercise; (ii) demonstrate that lower carbohydrate intake may be a therapeutic strategy to independently improve glycemic control, particularly in those at risk for diabetes; (iii) demonstrate a unique relationship between continuous glycemic parameters and systemic metabolism. --Low and high carbohydrate isocaloric diets on performance, fat oxidation, glucose and cardiometabolic health in middle age males Note the glycemic control improvement. Also higher HDL. On lower carb, higher LDL can be discounted.

Why Thailand has attracted more foreign tourists than Vietnam
BigStar replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
This thread has been useful for the input from knowledgeable posters about the real downsides of VN compared to LOS. It concurs with what a couple of long-term expats living there have told me. I've been ripped off in VN as well. It has its good points, but Thailand needn't feel too threatened yet. I feel more optimism for Thailand going forward--overall. Too often, for bashing purposes, we get a rosy pic and smug prophecies that "much better" VN spells the end of Thai tourism and indeed foreign investment. ???? -
Why Thailand has attracted more foreign tourists than Vietnam
BigStar replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
WOT??? Completely blows our narrative here. We gotta bury this thread quickly and get back to the mistreatment of tourists and expats, the horrible environment, the arrogance and unfairness of Immigration, the lack of love just for being our lovable ourselves, and how all the tourists know to go elsewhere, specifically to much better, fast growing Vietnam.- 123 replies

Public employees might invite "shows" to take place on public property. Might even include schools. No. And "prurient" has sufficient precedent in law. Challenges will go nowhere. What makes you think it was a lot of time? Misuse of public property and the protection of children are important enough issues to be addressed, actually. Now why can't they also address even bigger problems? Have state & local gov'ts who aren't passing these laws addressed their obviously bigger issues that have only gotten worse in the past few years? No. So I don't see your point.

That idea comes, as he says, from Ken Cooper: Being the type A that I am, I read Ken Cooper’s seminal 1968 book Aerobics and celebrated the idea that you got to award yourself “points” for time spent at a high heart rate. The more points, the healthier your cardiovascular system would become. And, yes, the points system led to (if wrongly) excessive intensity for longer periods than would be optimal by enthusiasts, including Mark Sisson, who ran competitively for a time, a real athlete. The craze for marathon running and triathlons started here. Crossfit encourages it and is a notorious source of injury. In any case, the injuries he describes here are pretty typical of the average person doing excessive, unnecessary aerobics. He has a lot more writing about cardio on his blog: https://www.marksdailyapple.com/?s=cardio No one's arguing a moral issue here. But the newer paradigm is "less is more" and "work smarter, not harder" and "avoid unproductive wastes of time," unless you're just really enjoying yourself. Now I've stayed fit for more than 40 years, but I've never particularly enjoyed exercise, so I'm happy to have learned to do MUCH less for about the same reward, a la the Pareto Principle. Jack LaLanne never enjoyed weightlifting, BTW. Lot of work for little reward. Much more efficient to lose weight, and keep it off, via diet and fasting. 40 -50 mi/wk is asking for injury, sorry, esp if it's on asphalt or concrete. I stay aerobically fit via 2x10 min interval sessions a week, or only 3 min of actual intensity. You may read the first of many studies here: https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a19520603/10-minute-sprint-interval-workout-benefits/ Encouraging study on octogenarians w/ co-morbidities here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8350218/ But my resistance training is quite intense, and I walk on the beach maybe 3 times a week, 20 - 30 min. It all leads to calculated V02Max of 40, which is excellent for my age. So, works.

It's mainly about healthspan, not lifespan. Read up on compression of morbidity. The Relative is one of the Principles mighty ANF Poster Longevity Science, so we hear it often around here. 3. The Relative A relative of mine did nothing special and lived to 95. Oh, I will too. But Scientists reported on Tuesday that genes accounted for well under 7 percent of people’s life span, versus the 20 to 30 percent of most previous estimates. -- https://www.statnews.com/2018/11/06/life-span-genes-ancestry-database/ It's part of a general assertion of Genetics Voodoo. I dunno why our Believers try to thwart the Voodoo by taking meds. Seems hypocritical, don't it. Let it work, man. So did you get them longevity genes? How would you know? I dunno. I try to cover all the bases, just in case. Working well so far--as verified by the numbers.

You may read about a larger number of guys here: https://reddit.com/r/ketoendurance/ But for a lot of endurance exercise where "bonking," is a concern, keto would seem a harder diet. I never recommend it anyway and regard it as a last resort for weight loss after all other diets have failed--or for diabetes, getting off meds, then adding carbs back in as tolerated. Low carb should work, however, which you probably confuse with keto, not really knowing much about either. I don't see a problem with intermittent fasting, but it would depend on the variation. Again, we're talking serious endurance exercise or sport. I'm no longer a believer in its benefits anyway, having done my share. (I could see cycling in areas friendly to cycling--for fun.) This article gives some of the reasons: A Case Against Cardio (from a Former Mileage King) but omits the injuries including, notably, repetitive motion injury. You can achieve a fit cardiovascular system without bothering with classic Ken Cooper (Jane Fonda) aerobics, and much more efficiently.

The study led by Chang Villacreses found that the A1C test missed 73 percent of the diabetes cases later detected by the glucose tolerance test. “The A1C test said these people had normal glucose levels when they didn’t,” she said. “Our results indicated that the prevalence of diabetes and normal glucose tolerance defined solely by A1C is highly unreliable, with a significant tendency for underestimation of the prevalence of diabetes and overestimation of normal glucose tolerance.” --https://www.healthline.com/health-news/what-blood-test-is-best-for-diagnosing-diabetes I wouldn't take refuge in a crowd. It's about you, not them.

I don't think keto or intermittent fasting was ever required for bonking. In fact, "the guys" (one of our ANF Longevity Science Principles, BTW) could probably bonk if they also stopped exercising. Otherwise, the entire populations of most Western countries, at least, would have died out.

Best get a comprehensive blood workup. Pre-empt any issues before they become more serious.

No, the size of the military was shrinking under Obama and started picking up under Trump. Trump inspired some patriotism and confidence. The current leadership? Laughable. Now the shortage is the worst in 50 years. Nor did Trump "expel" gays. No, actually it refers to leftwing political ideology that targets all that imagined "systemic injustice," of which there are many politically convenient manifestations.
-
Yawn. Deflecting doesn't help your case. Next.
-
I suspect many don't want to be in a "woke" military.
-
You don't actually know how healthy you are. I suggest you get an oral glucose tolerance test and test your insulin to calculate your HOMA-IR score. Let us know how those go.
-
Has carbs more decent than any of yours. You don't need that many carbs if you do a lot of exercise, even at your imagined Olympian level; that myth's been debunked, but favors your narrative. I stay quite fit on low carb and so can anyone.

They signed up for military duty and are being housed, fed, and paid. Note In 2006, the Department of Defense made it a crime for a service member to hire a prostitute anywhere in the world; the penalties can include up to a year in prison, forfeiture of pay, and a dishonorable discharge. --https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%26R_(military) So the DOD would hardly pay for free p***y on "party ships."???? Again, seems the problem is in your understanding, not from any official or even informal announcements. I don't recall any service members requesting party ships. Of course, if you ask your average grunt, he'll call for a continuous party time on his assigned ship, no duties, with free beer & p***y, rather like--mongers here complaining about the prices of everything. Everybody likes that free stuff; meanwhile, we don't like giving tips for Thai service because they're already being paid. Experts here have always known how to solve that imagined lack of wealthy Golden Egg Layers in Thailand problem. Yup. But not a lot, actually. Never heard any requests from the MPs for backup. Just doing their jobs; they got it.

Full fat natural yogurt, ground flax seeds, Hershey's Natural Cocoa, cinnamon, almonds, blackberries, whey protein powder, and a few supplements. Most of the time.

What problem? Have I missed some announcement? Problems so far seem to emanate only from ANF posters.

True, it’s hard to beat that Pattaya staple that supports Soi Buakhao and indeed built Pattaya itself: yer baked-beans-on-toast. Cheap, high carb, always pleasing to the Brit palate. Couple of hours later, the insulin’s dropped, and it’s time for Chang. Life’s good. But, after all, the English pigout brekky, maybe 1,500 calories, is for old fat men, so why should your body enjoy it? Though still very popular in Pattaya (the culture), it's dying out in the UK: . . . . the nation’s changing tastes a quarter of respondents said a fry up was ‘too greasy’ and just under half said it ‘reminded them of men in vests hanging around in transport cafes’. The greasy bacon, ‘lukewarm’ baked beans and processed sausages were also factors that put young Brits off the classic fry-up and 71 % of respondents said they would rather have smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, smashed avocado on toast or oatmeal pancakes for breakfast. --Find out why the English Breakfast could soon be extinct But throw out the worthless bread, baked beans, and hash browns, and half the sausage & bacon, and it’d be acceptable once in a while. Really, though, no respectable Brit establishment is gonna serve any such insulting thin full English at the warranted discount. Solution: any Brit ordering one should be instead be served a couple of McDonald’s Egg McMuffins--without the muffins. Cheaper, healthier (relatively speaking, LOL; add tomatoes & mushrooms on the side?), sugar control (a gram in the bacon?), labeling (full details on the 'net), and better tasting, once the requisite imperious cursing of McDonald’s has run its course. The cheese--wait, I gotta have a laugh here.???? OK, to continue: then our Brit won’t feel hungry again till mid-afternoon and perhaps even start losing some of the belly. Instead of needing another carb fix, he can just grab a bottle of water from 7 and take a nice long walk on the coconut bar with the hope of meeting a fine young thing to take back to his room. No barfine.

Our shrewdest members already know that all the Russian women will be soon be out selling p***y. One of our fave fantasies of late. ????

Oh, how about mere AN marketing itself? Exactly. That translates into pages, page views, and clicks.

I'm too lazy to make pizza from scratch. If I did, https://www.google.com/search?q=low+carb+pizza+recipes&gl=us&hl=en Very true. Amazing how the myth persists and is constantly repeated.

I can easily relate to that, believe me. Nowadays, I stay so well-hydrated at the gym, ending with a final long drink of water and a protein shake, that I don't need or desire anything for a couple of hours afterward, by which time I'm all cooled off. Even without beer, I'm already wasted, so I imagine beer would put me right to sleep. As P. D. Mangan says, If you leave the gym and think "that wasn't so bad", you didn't train hard enough.
-
Upcountry, lao khao is still very much around. After moving to Pattaya, Thai ladies seem to lose the taste for it entirely--if they ever had it.
-
????I'd never have thought I'd lose the craving for beer (or pizza). Never. But I did. I'll have one once in a while. Perfect for certain occasions. I have a glass of red wine daily, though. In a splurge, I prefer bourbon and water.
