  1. Don't worry, I've got it covered!

The nursery is just an idea we're toying with for the future. Incidentally, it is not as difficult as I have been lead to believe. My friend contacted someone in the know who explained the process. Having the capital is not an issue as much as space is.

I was just responding to your running a Saturday school already before the proper registration is done.

  2. Not normaly a cyinc... but, you are 100% right about this being more interesting.  :D

I may be wrong, but still something does not gell for me. Perhaps it was in the 'answers' anonymo 'chose' to answer and those he chose to 'ignore'.

But I have to be true to myself and to you guys, and say what I think at the time. And, I am still not convinced.

There it is... based on posting times there is the irrefutable, overwhelming, and conclusive evidence that Ravisher is the one that is a troll. It was almost a full 27 hours between his postings. :o

In the future, Ravisher, consider doing us ALL a favor and keep your snap judgements to yourself... WE don't need YOU to be so "true" to us, ok?

    :D

  3. It's much worse in the states really. My brother owns a Hip Hop Bar and he has had cops with dogs sniffing cars in the parking lots, and finding drugs. The cops also have an entrapment program where they have undercover hot chicks try and purchase or obtain drugs from employees and customers, quite successfully and unsuccessfully, thru unscrupulous means. What the Thais are doing is no big deal

couple of points... I would certainly say it is NOT worse in the USA. I never heard of urine drug testing at a club there which is much more invasive than a dog sniffing your car.

I wouldn't consider it "entrapment" unless the police were selling the drugs as it's common and normal police procedure to purchase drugs.

What the Thais are doing IS a big deal.

  4. If you are considering purchasing a place have a look at the Sri Racha Condoview 1 bedroom condominiums on the road one block south of Sri Racha Place. It's a new deverlopment and won't be complete till 2006 but it seems promising. The 50-59 sq meter condos rangin price from 35k USD - 45k USD.

While on this subject, does anyone know of any other new deverlopments of this sort around the area? It seems all the "seaview" condos are already sold out at Sri Racha Condoview.

    Matt

    PS...SriRachaJohn...I just meet your girlfriend...

    welcome to the neighborhood... :o

I agree with jing... over-priced AND tiny AND not finished for a long time. I'd be very hesitant to jump into something in this area that has such a late completion date. There is so much surplus housing and over-development, I expect the entire housing market here will crash in the not-so-distant future.

After it does, of course, that would be the time to purchase.

  5. Lost Gold,  If at some point in the future you show greater comprehension of what I have written, I'll be happy to continue discussions with you.  Until then- I hear that ECC has some good discount prices on English classes.

hahahaha... good sarcasm there. I wouldn't recommend ECC for anything related to improving English skills. :o

  6. I have a couple more questions about the buses that run along Sukumvit

If I am trying to go north from Pattaya to Sri Racha what is the lattest time I should I arrive at the bus stop on Sukumvit (lets say the one on Pattaya Kleang/Central & Sukumvit) so I don't have to wait too long to catch a bus?

Last night I arrived there at around 10:15 and there wasn't ANYONE at the bus stop except for the guy trying to sell me a (300 baht first, then 100 baht, and finally a 50 baht) taxi/songtheaw ride to Sri Racha. He claimed the last bus stopped at 9 pm. The taxi driver even convinced the 10 or so Thais that showed up while I was there to take his taxi. After waiting for over 45 minutes I finally gave in and paid him 50 baht for a songtheaw ride to Sri Racha with a few other Thais.

Are the buses that cruise Sukumvit at all regulated by the government? What other options are there for traveling nort to Sri Raca late at night? I thought the buses were suppose to run 24/7 on Sukumvit (north and south). Anyway...thanks for your help.

    Matt

The last bus north to sriracha IS at 9... (GOSH!... an honest songtheaw driver). :o

so not many options if you want to stay late in Pattaya. You just have to plan accordingly.

The only option is the way you went, which was cheap as others will want B200.

  7. The problem with Sriracha Place is that they couldn't sell them all as condo's so they went to monthly rentals. Since they STILL couldn't fill them, they've gone to daily rentals. I wouldn't recommend purchasing there. My neighbor, when I lived there, bought his and the property value of it almost halved in 12 months... I wouldn't recommend it as a monthly rental either as they decided, totally unfairly, to keep my entire rental deposit. But hey, it happens... live and learn.

  8. BANGKOK: -- Atthakorn Suwannarat, a 27-year-old actor, was arrested on Friday on suspicion of snapping sneak shots with his mobile-phone camera of a sales assistant’s panties in a Bangkok shopping mall.

the actor with no career?.... google/yahoo search for him turn up NOTHING

Later yesterday, however, in addressing the media, Atthakorn denied the allegations. “It was a total misunderstanding,” he said. “Why would I risk my reputation for something like this?”

    Because you're an idiot?

He conceded that his digital camera did contain up-skirt photos of women’s panties, but claimed that he had no idea how it had turned itself on.

hahahaha...you'll have to come up with something better than that.

He said his earlier confession to the police had been done in haste only so as to avoid further embarrassment.

    yeah.... riiiiiiiiiiiight.

According to the 388 Criminal Act, Atthakorn will, if found guilty, be fined Bt500 and required to delete the photos from his camera.

sheesh.... such a small fine, he's probably more upset about having to delete the photos.

The plaintiff, however, called for Bt30,000 in compensation, and even while he continued to deny culpability, the actor made attempts to renegotiate the sum.

doesn't follow he would do that if he's innocent??

  9. So, since according to a thread just posted Bird Flu is back in Thailand- will all those ministers get the sack now?

There's already been a lotta changes in the line up. :o

That's very true. Khun Newin "can't-stay-out-of-trouble" Chidchob has moved on from his agriculture ministry post, where he was at the forefront of most of the blame for the bird flu scandal. He has gone on to lead an ever more trouble-plagued career involving bribery of opposition candidates in Ranong to offers of vote-buying in Satun. A truly nation-wide plague of a man.... and a prime example of Thai Rak Thai Party.

BRIBERY CHARGE: Newin: offer of cash ‘not serious’

    Published on Dec 14, 2004

‘It was just a joke’, says deputy minister Newin of his efforts to persuade Khun Wirat to join The Thai Rak Thai Party. The Party yesterday went into damage control mode following allegations that it had offered a bribe to lure into its ranks a Ranong Democrat MP by deputy minister Newin.

    VOTE-BUYING SCANDAL

    Published on Jan 20, 2005

In a bid to shield Thai Rak Thai from punishment if he is found guilty, Deputy Minister Newin Chidchob yesterday denied party involvement in his alleged campaign violations on Sunday.

“I alone am responsible for my actions, and the issue has nothing to do with Thai Rak Thai,” he said, noting that he was not a candidate in next month’s general election.

Newin is, however, on the Thai Rak Thai’s list of potential candidates for a ministerial post.

The opposition Democrat Party will file an official complaint today accusing Newin of promising money in exchange for votes from Satun and Phattalung provinces. The Election Commission (EC) has opened an investigation.

  10. Thaksin and Ber...... have been compared as being very similiar beyond their shared billionaire businessmen background.

Additional news is also VERY interesting as this is EXACTLY what Thaksin had asked for. In lieu of direct foreign aid, he had asked for an easing in the shrimp tariff. And now, the WTO is making a formal request to it's member countries for the same thing.

Has Dr. (psuedo-PhD) Thaksin become that influential in world circles? ..... I perish that thought, but we'll find out if and when the countries agree.

Shrimp Group: Tariffs to Aid Thailand

Fri Jan 21, 3:08 AM ET Business - AP

By CAIN BURDEAU, Associated Press Writer

NEW ORLEANS - American shrimpers oppose easing trade sanctions against India and Thailand, saying new tariffs they fought for will actually help drive up prices in those tsunami-ravaged countries.

The Southern Shrimp Alliance, an eight-state group of U.S. fishermen and processors, made its opposition public after the World Trade Organization called on its member countries last week to lift barriers on countries struck by the Dec. 26 disaster.

  11. Count me three.

Patty ain't what she used to be, but h*ll I've seen better days myself! :o  :D

Any night in Pattaya beats the pants off a night back here in the snowy north!!  :D  :D

Now I need to crawl back into my cacoon....

    :D  :D  :D

you can't nap... you gotta shovel a foot of snow from the driveway... :D

  12. The Tourism Authority of Thailand's Deputy Governor's response to this point was to shrug his shoulders.

The TAT Governor owns numerous houses - incommensurate with her wage level.

Just to be technically correct, the National Parks don't fall under the TAT, but it does point out that higher-ups, no matter what the ministry they are in, benefit excessively from their position. :o

  13. on Kho Samet - well, my friend who's been there more often than me, has educated me what to do: we send one of us on the truck with all the luggage, and he paied the single fee of 200 B, and rest of us just walked through, buying on the way some fruits -like we already stay here on the island and simply went to the fuit stalls for some shopping and coming back....

another time - we took a bit of walk on the sea shore - little long, but pleasant - nice sand, waves....  :o

shhhhhhhhhh....don't let the cat out of the bag... "anyone" can be reading that. :D:D

  14. Where the money actually goes is irrelevant to the matter, isn't it?

We are talking about dual pricing, aren't we?

As far as I'm concerned, it's a huge part of the reluctance to submit to the double standards. If I could see my fees actually being put to actual, physical improvements, than that would make my participation in attending a national park worthwhile and my contribution purposeful....and I'd freely pay double on top of the 10 times rate.

  15.   Without the 200 baht payers most of the places would close or be in such a bad state of repair that you would not want to go, so do you sugest that even the Thais who can't afford it should pay 200 baht?

Perhaps it might persuade some people if the 200 baht was actually spent on worthwhile projects. How many foreigners have there been to Koh Samet in 5 years and paid 200 baht? That adds up to a huge sum. Now, how much was spent on the ring road there?... I dare say none as it's in the same deplorable shape as it was 5 years ago.

I don't think anyone here (including myself) has any evidence of WHERE the money collected as entrance fees goes.

As per an earlier post, "seeing is believing". If the majority of the money was NOT going into the pockets of the higher-ups, and was actually been spent to upgrade or maintain Koh Samet, for an example of a National Park, then surely we'd have seen improvements made as described earlier, with the ton of money that has been collected there over the past 5 years. As far as having "rock solid documentary evidence" of where it (the money) goes, I don't think that's an arena that can be safely entered. Higher-ups tend to wield a lot of weight, and if you try to implicate them, they tend to resort to less-than-friendly responses. Ask any relative of a dead NGO member about that. But the bottomline is...without the physical evidence of improvements, it's not difficult to ascertain where the money is and has been going.
