  1. Re the "reason" given above for killing the man ...having to do with intimidation and "having a clearly visible pistol" (sorry I can't find a way to quote from the OP), did we not read yesterday that the reason the shooters planted a pistol on the victim, was because they were unaware of the fact that he already had one???

I had exactly the same thought after reading the following in the OP

The staff pleaded with him to leave but he walked to the counter with a clearly visible pistol tucked inside his belt.

    Something doesn't sound right...

  2. Sorry Neilly - no idea other than I have seen lots of different engineers working around the island.

A TOT upgrade on Samui is desperately needed but I worry about the ability of the engineers to support it. alt=whistling.gif>

I was fed up with TOT sending a telephone engineer for internet connectivity problems. They seemed not to be able to understand the possibilty of the phone working whilst the internet was not!

I have now transferred to CAT fibre optic - through a third party. The only down time that I have had since November was when a macro machine dug up the cable. alt=facepalm.gif>

It's not CAT. You're on fiber from UIH resold via Bluechip

CAT is nearly as bad as TOT!

    Thanks guys...so basically I'm 5crewed thEmoticon_suicide.gif

  3. Seems like TOT still have problems...

Anyone got any insight as to what’s going on with TOT at the moment? I have their 20Mb fibre line and everything was fine up until Sunday (I live in Laem Sor). A friend of mine who lives about 1km from me had his router replaced on Sunday even tho his system was running fine...they just turned up unannounced and said it needed replacing. Coincidentally it was about this time my system stopped working.

We put a call into TOT and they came yesterday afternoon and replaced my router (I wasn’t home at the time unfortunately). They told my wife that they were updating the system and that the old routers were no longer any good, and from a sheet they showed my wife had replaced many that day.

Since the new router has been installed the line keeps dropping out...the longest it’s stayed connected is three hours but normally drops out after half an hour...you then have to turn off the router, wait 30sec and turn it back on again...this is beginning to get up my snout to say the least!

We called TOT last night to complain and again this morning.

Any idea what they’re up to?

You're the one that was making the AC bar posts when the two kids got murdered aren't you? I think I asked if you were posting on behalf of those animals at the AC bar? Guess this answers that question

All these Koh Tao apologists have some form of vested interest in the island, covered in other threads.

JohnThailandJohn too if I recall, can't find a link I'm sure others will confirm.

    You forgot AleG

AleG was quite indignant when I said that he had business interests on Koh Tao. However, I didn't really pursue the matter e.g. possibly friends with business interests there (JD, JTJ, Islandlife etc) because to be quite honest his blind defence of ANY suspicious happening on KT makes me wary of anything he says anyway!

Just put all four of them on 'Ignore' and it cuts most of the thbs.gif

  6. Why not if they misled the country and failed to do anything about the corruption or if they never attended any of their meetings as the head.

Ohh I'm sorry! Maybe you were just trying to be facetious in your reply to make other TV members argue with your comment against Suthep and your Elite heheee.

Nope, I was serious. They misled the country. In fact, lied to the country. Suthep wanted the government to step fown so fresh elections could be held. Government stepped down and Suthep violently stopped the elections so there could be a coup. Prayuth told everybody he has ne desire to be PM. Then elected himself PM. Elections promised 2015. Now 2016. It'll never happen. In the meantime the tourist industry is down the toilet. Prayuth is putting his cronies in the top government positions and forbade freedom of speech. All of this has cost the country billions of baht. I could go on but you get my drift. They should be impeached too. But that will never happen as he will write laws into the consitution absolving himself and all of his mates from being charged should a democratic process every happen again in Thailand.

Only an idiot could argue with that. You've come to the right place.

  7. The minister said Thailand is being given six months to resolve the discrepancies, where failure to do so would result in a ban on Thai fishery exports to the EU, worth roughly 30 billion baht per year

Without wishing to sound negative I'm pretty sure which road they'll end up on, and can kiss goodbye to the exports to EU...there is just too much to be achieved in such a short time, If they'd been given 6 years instead of 6 months I'd still have my doubts...

  8. Something I didn't know until today...

Unlike the rest of the world, where taxis are usually yellow and black, Bangkok’s taxis come in a full range of colours. There are pink taxis, orange taxis, purple taxis, green taxes, yellow taxis and taxis in various combinations. While taxi colour in other countries signify nothing in particular, Bangkok’s taxis are actually colour coded. The single-colour are company taxis, personal taxis in cooperation or alliance and rental company taxis. These colour include bright green, bright sky blue, red, orange, yellow, blue, pink, purple, violet and tan. The bi-coloured taxis are in 3 kinds including yellow-green, red-blue and yellow-orange. The yellow-green are the personal private taxi. The red-blue are the rental taxi. The yellow-orange are the company taxi. Taxis are abundant in Bangkok so you can pick any colour you like, but the yellow-green taxis are generally reckoned to be better, being owned and driven by the owners themselves.

  9. "Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya has shelved plans to amend the Foreign Business Act of 1999 until the time is ripe, as Thailand still needs foreign investors to help resuscitate the comatose economy and changing the game rules now could rattle their confidence."

Id take that to mean theres every intention to do it as soon as its convenient, damned if id have much confidence investing reading that statement whistling.gif

I think you're right and the first line should have read:

"Commerce Minister Chatchai Sarikulya has shelved plans to amend the Foreign Business Act of 1999 until the time is ripe for the picking, as Thailand still needs foreign investors to help resuscitate the comatose economy and changing the game rules now could rattle their confidence."

  10. " We will give [the owner] of any boat with an expired license a year to get licensed. "

Bunch of child like threats. Be like Indonesia. When caught, arrest the crew and owner of the boat and sink the boat in question to make an artificial reef. When the owners see their precious little raper fishing boats going into Davey Jones' locker, that will make a good impression on them, to become legal or sink. Not after a year say, er how much can you give me to keep you afloat?

Agree with you, but will never happen, just not the Thai way of doing things.

I agree also...but should the EU carry out their threat it might (just) get their attention wink.png

It was followed on October 28 by another message from the EU Office of International Agricultural Affairs to the Thai Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, warning that if measures to control IUU fishing are not improved within three months, Thailand’s seafood exports to the EU will be blocked.

  11. Hansgruber. There is a Honda 2015 national sales meeting Wednesday so any new models tend to get announced to dealers then. If you want a Crf 250 then I know former / current TV sponsor Sumet have them in stock. https://m.facebook.com/hondasumetcycle?_rdr

No. I'll be waiting now it's being replaced.

Spontaneous purchase by me and my friend has been averted. We just wanted to go churn some dirt today.

It's still showing in the 2015 line-up so you might have a bit of a wait...
