  1. While we are at this lovely new scanner.

Can someone explain the precise rules for electronic cigarettes because the customs are quite eager to tell you there is a 5 years prison sentence for importing electronic cigarettes even just for personal use with no flavoring, yet thai airways suggest people to leave electronic cigarettes in the luggage and not on carry on.

9th trip to samui and never had any problems with electronic cigarettes before other than they just ask what it is, and that's it. This time we had an issue.

By law no high discharge batteries are allowed in checked baggage (same as power banks) and must be in your carry on. I strip my tanks and put them in my checked luggage, batteries (in a plastic box) go in my carry on.

  2. It's not being advertised yet by Honda so it does seem possible what Richard has said.

Was the purchase in Thailand and was it from a Honda dealer?

Think we got crossed up...I was on about the CRF250L, which was bought from a main dealer and is still up on their website

    http://www.aphonda.co.th/2015/aphonda-home.ashx

The AT is up on their other website, but no mention of when it'll be available

  3. With a seat height of 871mm not much Thai people while be able to put their feet on the ground. For example, the Honda CRF250L (similar seat height) sales was suspended in Thailand early because sales was way behind sales targets…

Not sure where you got that info from? A friend of mine just bought a new 2016 last Monday

  4. Appreciate it if anyone could recommend a resort/hotel with a gym/pool membership.

I will google anyways, but sometimes it is hard to find one that accepts the general public for annual memberships.

Always like a pool/gym combination....rather than gym only. The gym does not have to be fancy....but perhaps running machines and some nautilus/pulley type machines. Not crowded.

Not sure where you're located, but if you're in the south then Elements should be okay...

  5. Kawasaki W800 Final Edition » End of an Era

Some fifty years since its launch, Kawasaki has announced the end of the iconic W series of four-stroke vertical twin motorcycles; the W800 ‘Final Edition’ marks the end of an era. With a limited number available for the 2017 season, fans and enthusiasts across Europe have a last chance to experience the contemporary descendant of the famous W series that first emerged from the Kawasaki factory in Akashi, Japan, in the mid 1960’s. Suitably christened the W800 ‘Final Edition’, the last model in the line is resplendent in its remarkable Candy Brown and Candy Sunset Orange paint scheme.

  6. I've been hit by this three times (twice out and once back) in the last six weeks (I work in the Middle East). I tried to get a 'single' ticket out this last time, to no avail. The company I work for uses an agent for the tickets (approx 40 expats) and after asking several times I still ended up with two tickets (combined on one page, bless em). The national carrier of the country I work in doesn't code-share with Bandit Airways so as far as I can tell I'm screwed.

Bsd posted the quote below on the other thread mentioned above...so at least I understand what's going on, even if I can't do anything about it.

There is in Thailand a process called CIQ (Customs Immigration and Quarantine) where if you were flying from one of the 8 largest provincial airports to Suvarnabhumi and then connecting to an international flight you can check in for both flights at the provincial airport, clear security and immigration at the provincial airport, take your domestic flight and then use a special security check point to access the international departure level, and finally collect your bags in London or where ever it is that you were flying to.

So you do have to clear security between flights.

The big advantage of this is that the security and immigration queues at an airport like Samui (owned by Bangkok Air) is non-existent. So you can arrive at Samui airport an hour before your flight to Bangkok and only have say 90 minutes as the connection time in Bangkok because you know that you are not going to be stuck in any queues.

The issue here is that airlines have 2 basic types of agreements:

    1. Interline - where you can check in bags on each other flights as long as the customer has a valid ticket (and sometimes print boarding passes as well).
    2. Code share - Where you sell tickets on each other flights.

Previously Bangkok Air had about 30 inter-line agreements and 3 codeshare agreements, so you would turn up at Samui Airport with 2 tickets (Bangkok Air USM->BKK and BA BKK->LHR) and they would check you in to both flights and you would travel CIQ as above.

Now Bangkok Air has about 10 codeshare agreements and are saying they won’t interline. So if you turn up with 2 tickets you have to collect your bags in Bangkok and check in for your international flight and clear security there. If you have 1 ticket (which you have to buy from the airline that isn’t Bangkok Air because they don’t sell tickets on flights they don't operate even when they code share on the flight) they will check you through like they used to.

  7. I have more of a problem with folk who have a zillion dogs that start barking if they hear a fart....sad.png

No dog would wake upon hearing someone pass and fart. And you know it.

Cobblers...if a dog walks past my neighbors house both of his go ballistic (anytime of day or night) and keep at for a good 15min after said dog has long since passed. That is way more annoying than a noisy bike that has passed in a few seconds.

  8. You can also download the Honda manuals which gives you and idea of what parts you may need from the shop. A picture IS worth a thousand years especially if your technical Thai isn't up to much.

You should be able to get the manual from the link below

    https://powerproducts.honda.th.com/dcs-wbs/product-type-display.action?productType.productTypeId=655362

BTW, you could have got the Bush Cutter from Honda in Nathon (they are the Power Products dealer here)...it's where I got my Honda lawnmower from.

Sorry for not mentioning this earlier but didn't see this thread as I've been away.

  9. Wonder if anything will happen tomorrow?

Directly from a Samui Police officer in answer to your question -

Yup... crackdown is due to start tomorrow... 500 baht fine if the rider has no helmet... 1,000 baht for the passenger... only 2 people on a bike... no kids... and people in sidecars not allowed.

It's not having a lot of effect then...I'd hazard a guess at 75% of people still not wearing a helmet (on my ride between Nathon and Namuang yesterday)

  10. Back roads between Maenam and Lamai are in pretty good shape for the time of year....

    Samui%252520Tony%252520and%252520friends

Bike riding up in the hills not for novices or faint of heart .... Jungle Safari rides do much of the roads and points of interest...thumbsup.gif

I think I saw you yesterday Jimmy...were you leading a group of bikes at the top of Soi 1 at around 1pm? I was with three other bikes just about to take the turn off leading to the Big Buddha above Lamai

  11. Bump

I have a Samsung netbook that needs attention, namely a look at the battery terminals (it ceased recognizing a new bty after 36hrs) and increase the memory/speed it up. The shop opp Maenam PO were reluctant to try and open it when I had an earlier problem therefore my question is:

    - Is SAMSUNG my next port of call (& if so where are they these days) or

    - Is there anywhere else on the island that can look at a netbook without gouging the owner?

The netbook works when plugged in but i'm reluctant to use it without the bty functioning properly.

    Thanks all smile.png

I'd give Boyd a go (just down from Makro on the same side)...he had a go at my fried Dell and didn't charge me anything after I decided not to bother repairing it

    Thx for map.

Is it google maps gps works up there?

Sent from my SM-A800F using Tapatalk

I haven't been in Ohms for a month or so and didn't know he had that...should be fun!

GPS will work up there a majority of the time...I haven't tried Google maps up there for awhile, but just had a look and the coverage is a lot better than it used to be

  13. Although he does have the bikes...his 'repair' costs if you drop it are a little on the expensive side to say the least dragonstouch_whistle.gif

Some nice views from some points! I would suggest going with a "buddy"... rather than alone! Be off the back roads before dark!

Neilly and I have done all these roads, he won't take me anymore as I stop too often to take photos and my PCX is too slow .... laugh.pngfacepalm.gif

Can you add anything Neilly? wink.png

That is good advice from Jimmy...there's some rough stuff up there and it's taken two of us to haul a stuck bike a couple of times.

It always amazed me how you got your PCX thru a lot of it LOL...I know you changer the variator, but still impressive none the same.

This map is from the hill walkers and is fairly good starting point...

    Mate thats sounds like fun.

    Thank you for proper info.

Do they rent dirt bikes with more then 250cc ?

Sent from my SM-A800F using Tapatalk

250cc is the largest dirt bike you'll find to rent mate

  14. watch out for guys on red motor bikes, right Neilly!?whistling.gif

    And for Green ones...dragonstouch_whistle.gif

What cc is this red one. Was it tour or just rent.

I want rent one around new year but not tour.

How much is it. 1k per day?

    Thanks a lot

Sent from my SM-A800F using Tapatalk

    It's my own and it's a Honda CRF250L (The Kwak is a KLX250).

There are a few shops that rent them in the Chaweng area, but some will sting you if you drop it...no idea on the price especially over the New Year period...but should be less than 1k/day I would have thought

  15. but some of the roads are rough going.... especially now!

If that cement road I posted is finished then it will be easier via Soi One road.... too much chance of getting rained out right now, will check out later....

Member Neilly and I went up the existing one a couple of years ago ! But I have done several times!

There is a restaurant up there too, some of the Safari Trucks stop there for lunch! (if you dare use them!!!!!) wink.png

Hi Jimmy...that cement road only goes about 150m and then stops...don't think they'll concrete it all the way.

Been up on the hills with a couple of friends quite a few times (last time a couple of weeks ago) and Soi 3 is now a mess again. We haven't been up since the rains kicked in but will soon if we get a clear day.

  16. Lots of things to do on Soi One from Maenam to Lamai! The road is in pretty good shape, but quite steep in some areas....

Not only will Samui immigration be open some time! Every farang will get to know this place....

I saw the new water slide park was now open! Follow the signs!

    _MG_6450-42.jpg

Be warned...it's expensive, and you will be charged the same entrance fee if you are using the rides/swimming or just minding your child
