  1. If anyone is wondering why I'm changing my front sprocket you can read this interesting thread that JimShortz pointed me towards about a month ago: http://www.cbr250.net/forum/cbr250-performance/5571-anyone-using-13t-front.html

It should answer any questions on the subject and benefits of dropping down from a 14 tooth front sprocket to a 13 tooth front sprocket.

I may be reading the referenced article wrong,

but it seems to be indicating that changing 14 => 13T, front,

will increase low-end performance at the expense of top-end?smile.png

Not sure about the CBR, but a lot of guys with CRF's (especially the larger ones) couldn't pull top gear until they put on a 13t

  2. yeah, I have been over the top from mae nam to lamai a lot on my pcx and never had an issue solo...I don't break as hard/much solo but with my gf on the back I wanted to take it slow...fluid changed. pads look ok...and will be mostly be going solo from now on smile.png

Sounds good...going over Soi 1 shouldn't cause any issues even two-up...but a few of the others ain't quite so nice LOL whistling.gif

  3. He is changing it. That's not the issue...it's that he also said that the same can happen again ... It's something that can happen under those circumstances ... He seems quite confident of it! Has anyone else had this happen on their Pcx?!

I know the hills you're on about...I take my CRF up there. Friend of mine lost his rear brake on his CRF for pretty much the same reason...he took his GF up there and on the way back down was using more rear than front (because of the sand) and it failed.

Once you've cooked the fluid it is better to change it...and to check the pads/discs. I know a guy who takes his PCX up there all the time, the only mod he did was to change the variator to help with the hills...he does ride solo and as far as I know hasn't lost his brakes.

  4. IMO CRF is way easier to ride and smoother. It might come down to a matter of taste, really. The CRF is a bit weaker when it comes to off-roading, not as tough as the KLX, but for the price difference you can easily toughen up the CRF. Hard-core off roaders seem to prefer the KLX.

I hear the CRF suffers clutch burnout from feathering offroad, so the KLX seems the go, especially as I have always had "Green" Bikes

My CRF spends 80% of it's life offroad and no probs. As Nikster says, it's down to a matter of taste. At one point there was a Bht20k difference between the two, and for Bht20k you can do a lot of upgrades that will take the CRF way past the KLX.

If you do get the CRF...put a 13t front sprocket on it before any other mod...thumbsup.gif

  5. The bars listed above about sums it up, not much in the way of farang night life. I can however suggest a great little restaurant. Close to the night market, from the street looks like a small ice cream shop but there is a garden patio through the back. Search for the place...Called "Tatum"....Best food in Korat!

I would like to add Chez Andy to that list...ain't cheap but is damn fine grub. Andy used to have a place down here in Samui but moved back to Korat...love the food, and if you want to watch F1 in a different language it's on.

A friend will bring it over for me at the end of the month.

Did you put one in your CBR250R? If so, how do you like it?

No, I put mine on my CRF250L...it improved it no end thumbsup.gif (also went up to 42T on the back later).

Honda should have fitted 13T as std, but as mentioned earlier it was to do with emissions/mpg etc.

Thanks. Your bike is a dirt bike, right? I would think it already would already have more torque than a small street bike like mine and wouldn't need a sprocket change, but perhaps I am wrong. Anyway, I am really looking forward to seeing how it rides after the sprocket change. I should be able to change it by the end of the month.

Also, if you change the back sprocket I would think you would have to change your chain too, or at least on my bike I think you would. That is what I gathered from the long thread I read about it on another forum. But I think just removing one tooth from the front sprocket and all that is needed is to pull the back wheel back a bit to tighten the chain a bit more.

Yeah the 250L is a dirt bike (they call it a dualsport) , and makes it's power lower down the scale than yours...but the gearing was too tall for messing around on tight trails.

When you drop 1 tooth on the front it does move the wheel backwards...but by going up 2 on the rear it brings the adjustment back to std (you can actually run 13/43 with the std length chain)

You will notice a pleasant difference thumbsup.gif

  7. Actually, I just phoned Sang Chai at 104/4 Nawarat road at 053-306-225 and the woman said they don't have any sprockets in stock for those old bikes and that they can't order them anymore either because the bike has been out of production for a long time. Interesting that you were able to get one there before.

The CRF250L uses the same counter-shaft and comes std with a 14t...the most common upgrade is to use a 13t front sprocket...you should be able to get a 13t from any dirt bike shop (or they will at least know where to get one...mine was made in Thailand but it came from the States LOL).

For those that don't want to go looking the figures for Phangan District are below...

    District man woman sum home

    Phangan 4,748 4,650 9,398 9,643

    Koh phangan 1,985 2,094 4,079 2,937

    Baan Tai 1,573 1,606 3,179 2,520

    Koh Tao 1,190 950 2,140 4,186

    http://stat.dopa.go.th/stat/statnew/statTDD/views/showZoneData.php?rcode=8405&statType=1&year=57

Which by my reading says that there are 2 homes in Koh Tao for each person, surely a mistake?

This would be someone who has rental properties, a book for each unit.

    Ooo - confused.

So a Thai 'owner' who has a house with 8 family members in it counts as one house book = 1 person?

Do they just count how many houses are registered and then simply transpose that into 'people'?

    How does it work?

If the Romans could work out how to do a census 2,000 years ago, surely the Thais can figure out how many people are actually resident on one little island?

    R

At a guess Rob they're just doing it off ID cards...hence no children mentioned....????

  10. For fridges etc, Power Buy in Central Festival has a large kitchen appliance section. Not sure how prices will compare with other places though.

Prices are competitive at PB, they also have a wider selection to choose from, generally .... Delivery service is good too...thumbsup.gif

But it always pays to shop around when buying large ticket items...

We had to replace a fridge freezer not long ago and did a price comparison between HomePro and PB...HomePro came out ahead and they delivered the next day thumbsup.gif

  11. I have a couple of villas that are experiencing problems with TOT internet. No service or intermittant/slow service.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

(I am at the pointy end - Plai Laem area NE Samui.)

In the last couple days things have been a lot more stable thumbsup.gif

After they changed the router it was bad for nearly one week (I didn't ask them to change it...it was an 'upgrade' to the system bah.gif )
