May I ask for advice from the more experienced expats?

I am German citizen with Thai Permanent Residence since 2012.

I am plannig to get married to a Korean citizen in Thailand and to register the marriage here.

Would my korean wife than be able to apply for a Non-O marriage visa?

    Thank you very much!

    Andreas

Perhaps I'm wrong but unless Thailand allows to marry two non-Thai nationals and unless the German embassy allows to marry a German citizen with a foreign citizen (for instance my embassy allows this only for two citizens of my country) I would not think this is possible. Did you check the feasibility of such marriage already?

So there are some provincial people who could manage to do it from there..

I thought (i've been told by bth thai visa member and police officer that I met) that we could be able to do it only in bkk.

I heard in other province they wouldn't have to qualified people in order to make it properly.

I'm curious to know how does it take, same time as from bkk ?

As mentioned above, this announcement was only for foreign women having Thai husband, and they have a much easier route in the way no occupation nor income is required by the applicant - which must explain. As for male applicants, everyone has read in this forum advice given to rather register on a tabian baan in Bangkok and drive the application through SB (with perhaps the exception of Phuket and a couple of other cities).

Apparently the requirement  is you need 5 years of proven residency to apply for citizenship.

I don't think this is the case since 2008 when they added a category that allows married people without PR to apply to citizenship, for which there are a number of applicants who simply register themselves on a yellow book in order to apply. Arkady can perhaps confirm this but I think there is no such requirement - knowing that you already need 3 years of taxes and unbroken employment in the Kingdom to apply.

What do you, or anyone else, think that the best case scenario is?

It's when you get processed at the bottom of the current total time interval which seems 24-48 months (data comes from several recent applicants who posted in this forum). Beside this, 36 months can be seen as a kind of average standard speed in the past years - again, this comes from few people who have reported their timeline recently.

    Hi,

Just wanna add my 2 cents.

As i have been working for 10 years and eligible for all the matters, i wanted to apply for this citizenship.

Unforntunatly, things are gonna change for me next years, so i likely couldn't fill the requirement anymore.

I had the line ID of one officer at the SB branch.

I asked him on "date", meaning i d like to meet him outside his office to talk business.

He was the one telling me thr first time i went there that it will have a way to speed up the process.

So i wanted to figure that out and get an idea of how much money for how quicker could that be.

Meeting up at Central mega bangna for a cofee and start talking chill chill.

After turning around the pot, he told me a 6 figures digit could make the process faster, but only from his side, as (like you all know) they have to back amd forth with the MOI.

No garanty either of the application would be succesfull..

No many more details was given.

Well i just wanted to know wether it is possible or not.. Bit i didnt have any doubt about bribes still going on. Did you ?

I can also say that since last year when I applied, except for the standard application fees nobody from SB or from any other entity I have met has asked me any money or mentioned about anything like this.

It would be wonderful if that is correct. Anyone?

I can't remember having read that precisely but it's however possible. When I compute figures based on facts from recent applicants, I see the process has some 3+ year timeline those days: 1 year for gathering documents and having SB process them including requests for amendments, then when the file is transferred from SB to MOI one more year to get scheduled the interview and obtain the subsequent approval, finally one more year to complete the rest (signatures, oath, gazette...). So technically, theoretically and on the paper... yes, 8-10 months seems aligned with this. I should be able to confirm or invalidate soon as I'm currently 6+ months after SB transferred my application.

    So my questions:

    • Do I need to keep working during the process of both PR and citizenship. I saw some posts which seem to confirm this

    • Would I be able to apply considering I’m married for only 1.5 years?

    • Would it make sense to start both processes, pr and citizenship, at the same time? As sort of a double chance for permanent status

    Hello,

    To my knowledge:

    1) Yes
    2) Without children you can't apply before you've reached 3 years of marriage
    3) Based on the previous one, it seems you can only apply for PR at the moment

PR has an advantage over marriage visa, it will give you some security where you will no longer rely on your spouse (nor your employer) to reside in the country.

Does anybody have a link to download the application form (permanent resident based on marriage)? Thanks

It's true that all documents (brochure, details, application forms...) used to be available in the download section of the SB website when I started the process in early 2017, but I see they have removed them and today all you can find is an unofficial excel sheet checklist which must have been created by an applicant some time ago.

I'd say the starting point is to go to see Special Branch (SB, in Bangkok) and get the current list of requirements, but in this forum -and from the excel I mentioned above- you can get an idea of the requirements and quickly see what are your chances to pass. Eventually SB will fill the application form for you when all your documents are complete.

I went to the MOI interview with every document imaginable ...and copies. No one even asked to see my passport, work permit or anything else. 5 hour wait, 5 minute meeting. I posted about it at one point.

Do you have to be in the same room with other applicants and listen to their interview (and possible singing) for several hours? Or is just a queue outside and one person/family entering at a time?

The latest was on 15th May 2018. Below steps could help you to check after the oath (6+weeks).

    1. http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/RKJ/announce/search.jsp
    2. In the search field type ได้สัญชาติไทย and hit search
    3. Go to the last page now its page 9
    4. Scroll down the page 9 and see the last entry 881 was published on 15th May 2018.
Hint: I use chrome browse to translate to English. So the above steps can help to check the status.

I see another batch published on Thursday (Signed by the Minister on 29/06).

In principle after the RG Announcement you are Thai. But, you can’t be a Thai citizen without a Naturalisation Certificate which is the KEY to get you the ID card and enter into Blue book.

IMO, and as a newly acquired Thai citizen, ID card is the only thing which is recognised as Thai in the society and all government offices.

That's true from an operational point of view, but now if you had to define at which precise step of the lengthy process you have no more blocking hurdle (and nobody can refuse to issue your ID card) then it would be the publication to RG, right? Naturalization certificate and ID card issuance seem just an execution of the official publication.
