  1. “safety zones” in key tourist areas"

Tell it in the tourist brocures that in Patong we have fenched in safety zones where you can go out of your room and smell the fresh sewage but please stay inside of the fench and away from drowning zones, jetski zones, tuk tuk zonez and robbery beat up zonez.

    Have a nice vacation.

I assume that the safety zones have tuk tuk access. Tourist to tuk tuk driver. "quick take me to the safey zone before you feel the need to bash me again". Tuk tuk driver to tourist. "Okay but there's a bt 500 non negotiable rescue vehicle surcharge" .
  2. If there is no immediate arrest then we're told that it's a cover-up and that nothing more will be heard about it.

If there is an arrest then of course the police must have it wrong.

If they arrest a farang, then the police are trying to blame someone other than a Thai.

If they arrest a Thai, then it has to be some poor unsuspecting country bumpkin.

Yes, I think you have captured the state of affairs quite accurately... well done, ol' chap!

If I may add one more piece to your excellent comment it's this; This is the murder/manslaughter

of an Australian citizen. In Australia we don't have the death penalty for any crime in any state.

I would like to think that is a civilised stance. Please don't therefore call for the death penalty

    here.

  3. What a strange bunch TV posters can be sometimes. Let me get this right. The Thai neighbour played loud music. The Swiss resident got a gun and fired it in the direction of the Thai neighbours wife and child and hit his pick up as well. Not even shots in the air or something that might be mitigated by a level of rage. All this and posters indicate Cheap estate = Thai neighbours with no respect. Joking right?

  4. Probably trafficked here to satisfy the lust of old Paedo's

At least they are safe and well now, lets hope they don't return until they are older and their grandmother takes good care of them.

ot sure if you're implying that all oldies are paedos or that all paedos are old. Either way your implications are wrong!

Sadly paedos come in all shapes, sizes, genders and ages. Don't be distracted into believing this is the domain of old men alone.

  5. Best solution and harm free. Pop down to the Sriracha tiger zoo and get a bottle of tiger piss and put it in a sprayer and treat the driveway. Dog gone thats a good idea. A bag of tiger poo made into a solution also works..

  6. What seems to be overlooked is the horrendous way the dog meat is transformed into a "delicacy". While serving in Viet Nam I heard a dog howling in agony all day. When I asked about it I was told that the dogs were slowly beaten to death over the course of a day, and somtimes longer, to bruise the poor hapless creature "all over" to tenderise the meat. That is why this horrific trade should be stopped And nomatter how well an article is written it must be factual.

Slam me if you will, but as an American living in China and Thailand for the last 20 years, I see nothing wrong with the farming and selling of dogs for human consumption. I do however feel there is a need to reform the process in order for it to be more humane for the animals and that health issues are addressed. The stealing of personal pets has to be stopped and proper facilities built to ensure that the animals do not suffer and are treated as well as we do our cattle, chickens and pigs. Not saying that they are treated any better, but at least there are some laws on the books that are supposed to be followed. We will never get rid of the problem unless it is legalized and controlled by the state. All the dogs they have so called "rescued" in this Issan raid will most likely be killed and burned anyway and the whole operation will have done nothing except to take food from people mouths.Maybe next time they want to grab headlines by "rescuing" over a thousand dogs, they will have the foresight to make arrangements for their care before hand.

I pretty much agree with your well written article.

Perhaps the new government can address this very serious situation in the next session of Parliament. I believe in the governmental process, and hope that this problem will be addressed.

  7. This kind of attitude is typical from a Banana republic minister frustrated to be so small on the international scene, what the west have to care about, it doesn't make any difference if Thailand do or say something.

It's really laughable when this moron talk about sending military support in Libya, ah yes send what!!?? No ground operation, so what!!?? their decommissioned rusty aircraft carrier maybe haha. Even troupes on the ground would be crushed easily by Qaddafi's army.

So small you are Thailand and you play arrogance!!

Woop pak dee kua Khun Suthep.

They were talking about sending military to Libya? Please tell me thats a joke, as a former Marine i would feel pretty confident invading Thailand with just a company of Marines.

I also hope that K Sutep has been misquoted, however you could understand him "not respecting" Farangs when reading the quotes I have referenced. They and many others

indicate more than a normal response to Khun Suthep's alleged comments. Many of the posts on this subject are just plain contemptuous of Thais and Thailand and yet feign

outrage at being not respected. Banana republic that was smart enough to score the bulk of the jobs in the car manufacturing industry in Asia and export the world over the

world indicates signifigance on the international scene. Some former Marine so arrogant as to not even see the need to identify what sort of Marine. British? Thai? I think not,

that sort of boasting sadly comes from brainwashing during training and we all know who does that.

  8. A good start might be taking a bulldozer through places like Pattaya. Round up all the bargirls on the streets. Quality tourists don't flock to Thailand for ladyboys and the sex industry.

So in your dizzy little world, Pattaya = Thailand?

By the way have you seen how many tourists flock to Sydney and San francisco for their gay mardi gras? Oh and Hey the tourist numbers that flock to Rio's carnival have really diminished thanks to heaving mass of prozzies there.

More simplistic dross from a simpleton.

couldn't agree with makkam more except to correct one minor point. siam simon is most likely the simpleton while softgeorge dosn't like Pattaya probably because he's always

soft. Puritans the pair of them who think prostitutes exist only in Thailand for so called "sex tourists". Aussie country boys who visit King's Cross in Sydney and visitors to Soho

or the Reeperbhan are there for a good time. Visit Bangkok,Phuket or Pattaya and your a "sex tourist'. I don't get it.

  9. For all the would be executioners New Zealand, like ALL civilized countries, does not have the death penalty.

I am not a bleeding heart but if forced to jump to conclusions I would think that this man needs serious psychiatric

treatment. Or at least some serious ENT work to restore his sense of smell!

After reading your comment you make me think about " all civilized countries " and in my opinion...death penalty does exit in the world because, it does give a Message to all criminals. Life is for life....then you and I will not have to witness as such headline..93% of male in jails while only 3% female are serving time. ( American statistic ) The man who is accusing of this crime will have to defense, I believe in Karma...and the truth will reveal. America still has a death penalty in several states, the government have to spend 3 million for a death roll but, only one million for a life without parole...take a pick...( money talks )

I am sorry for her loss and my heart and soul go to her families and friends.

I included all civilized countries to provoke thought on the death penalty. Sadly I don't know statistics on states with/without

the death penalty. But I do know that many experts have claimed that it is no deterrent at all and I'll side with them before the

vengeful defenders of the Death Penalty. I also know that many, albeit a small percentage, have been wrongly executed.

The dehumanising of Wardens and Guards who have to carry out the processing is nothing short of sad. The USA still has

one of the worlds highest murder rates despite the fact that Americans are a wonderful people. That said "go figure".

RIP the victim and let justice be done to the perpetrator.

  10. For all the would be executioners New Zealand, like ALL civilized countries, does not have the death penalty.

I am not a bleeding heart but if forced to jump to conclusions I would think that this man needs serious psychiatric

treatment. Or at least some serious ENT work to restore his sense of smell!

no punishment, just some smug psychiatric care huh?

Now Gemini serious psychiatric care should satisfy even the harsher of your two personalities. I have actually seen

inside the 'facilities" used for the administering of this care to the criminally insane. Let me assure you that it would

never be regarded as smug and those that have seen it are usually shocked by the extent of the "maximum

security" facilities applied. These people are more likely to harm guards (nurses built like brick outhouses both male

and female) and the public if they escape than other criminals and are secured accordingly.

  11. UK Foreign Office please tell us who at immigration in Thailand gave YOU this warning?

Or did you get it from Howard Miller?

He IS the Honorary Consul in Pattaya for the UK and IS the Pattaya One boss!

Just name one name with rank and office of this immigration official issuing this Headline worthy news story?????????

Who advised the UK Foreign Office? Just hope it wasn't the same guy who told them that Gen Gordon was OK at Khartoum

or that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction or that Pakistanis assimilate well.

  12. Caught a bus from Ekamai to Jomtien/Pattaya with my Thai wife. Scraped a car near Bagna intersection. Proceeded to the bus depot just down the road to sort the accident out. Driver immediately relieved of duty and replacement driver appointed. Perfectly handled and what would be expected. The catch is the replacement driver was just finishing his shift and went on overtime. After a couple of red bulls the driver saddled up. On the overhead expressway about 10 k down the road I noticed his head nodding. He was falling asleep and I could see us sailing off the edge and falling God knows how far. Nudged my wife in the Aisle seat to wake him. She quickly dug a mint out and gave it to him. Why risk digging for the mint and not just a tap on the shoulder? Face my friends, face. He was grateful, stayed awake and alert and once off the expressway was busy driving again. Is fatigue just another cause of bus accidents? No, the major cause.
