  1. Owing to a varity of factors this type of occurance is all too common in this country and will remain the same as the authorities do bugger all and the public simply accept this as a way of life.

Mai Pen Rai, aka shit happens. There is little point in feeling symphathy for the injured and those who lost their lives as the people whoes job it is to minimize such incidents are simply to dumb or too lazy to take the appropriate actions. Sad state of affairs indeed.

It appears from the report the deceased and injured were in the van that was hit by the truck. So why no sympathy for them? The driver of the van was apparently minding his own business.

At last someone has managed to express a semblance of sympathy. I wonder if the game of semantics about a truck losing its balance without any expression of sadness would have been played had the victims been farang. A prayer for the deceased.

  2. How far out are the red flags? Are you safe if you generally stay in waist deep waters?

I can tell u r not familiar with the dangers of the surf and that makes your question a valid one and deserving of a civil answer. One of the greatest dangers here is that red flags indicate dangerous and unseen rips, currents and undertows. All these are terms to describe the movement of water caused by tides, currents and unpredictable wave size. The most common cause of people getting into trouble when still "in their depth" is the sudden collapse of a sand bar, that they are standing on, due to currents and they are then "out of their depth". A rogue unpredictable wave is probably next most common cause for people in their depth and they are simply carried out as the wave flows back to sea. So in answer to your question...... No. There are no safe ways around a red flag except to stay out of the water.

  3. Can somebody help me with Riyadh being 10th for " nightlife touring " as I'm not at all sure what it means and probably not what I am thinking ?

I don't see Saudi as being a tourist place except for Muslims and on a recent BBC " Fast Track " programme they said tourist visas were not the easiest things to get presumably meaning for non-Muslims. We're not allowed to visit Mecca.

It sure didn't include a bottle of wine!

  4. That will just create "the false image" that Thailand and Cambodia care for peaceful Prea Vinhear temple solution, .... but we all know that this battle will continue anyway...

"Thaksin will not be attending the wedding or wishing the bride and groom well over Skype, Somchai said, adding that the ousted former PM had already blessed the couple in person earlier." Good way of saying Thaksin can't go cause he will be arrested!cheesy.gifclap2.gif

When did K Thaksin attain the power to bless the couple in person? This is different to giving his blessings-- so which is it?

  5. 3,200 sailors and 2,480 air wing personnel

Dunno if Phuket could handle so much seamen. ohmy.png

Don't worry, the hoe's will be imported from all over Thailand. And there will still be a million plus to make up the rear echelon.

They are a commodity (a bottomless pit) in the country same as rice.

So, this expected flood of seamen is merely a drop in the ocean. rolleyes.gif

Dunno about a drop in the ocean, don't forget some of the seamen will be airborne.

  6. Not a democratic bone in his body. I recall several years ago when he was PM and asked about Democracy he responded with words to the effect that it was nothing more than a tool used by some Governments to attain power. I will never forget the football rattle he brought to press conferences to use when the questions got too hard. No checks and balances then or now.

  7. I remember reading that Songkran is originally a festival with Buddhist roots, and children were supposed to pour water gently over the heads of their parents and elders. Maybe some Thais still believe in Buddhism (I hope so) and don't want the holiday to become a drunken wet T-shirt party.

Can't farang men see Thai girls bodies, wet or otherwise, while drunk, in plenty of other venues?

Personally speaking, I'd just let the Thais have their Buddhist holidays and not get all in an uproar if it's not turned into just a water war. Have the water war on another day. Or just go to the beach.

I know many Thais are the ones going overboard on Songkran, but it's funny how bent out of shape all the foreigner men are getting over this.

Well I'm not sure you've nailed the problem here Big Joe. I went in the back of the Thai inlaws pick-up thru the streets of Ayuttya a couple of years ago and very few Farangs were there. Plenty of Thais heaving buckets of water tho. Don't think any of them felt they were turning their backs on Bhudda. This festival has simply evolved from its beginnings.

  8. This is what they call CRIMINOLOGY. This was the field of study chosen by Doctor, Police Captain, Past Prime Minister, Fugitive Absconder TS.

I'm surprised that the statistics are not already collected and collated. Still it gives the BIB a two year holiday while they wait for the results of the research. Tea money in the mean time from research funding.

  9. Yaowapa certainly casts a large enough shadow to put Yingluck in the umbra and you'd certainly have to agree that there can be fewer political families on this earth that have more shadowy dealing than this bunch.

I guess what the article is saying is that Yaowapa is an insurance policy. If Yingluck gets convicted then there's one on the bench.

Papa Doc Duvalier springs to mind but the Ton Ton Macout would have to become Red Shirts to draw a more complete analogy.
