  1. Not scheduled to go abroad? This must be the longest period Ms. Yingluck has been in Thailand since her brother's party won the elections.

BTW. she's under investigation, she's still (somehow) caretaker PM. I assume she doesn't need permission from the E.C. or others if she want to or has to travel abroad?

Very true, but the length of her trip could add another dimension.

  2. Procrastination is certainly the name of the game in this country ... Do they think that everything will just go away if they put their heads in the sand?

Yep the Thais do the sand-thing, I once heard of 'Bench Warrant" being issued here. Can't remember the circumstances or when it was. If the legal system has such a thing why not give a date to appear and if they don't appear simply issue a bench warrant for their arrest? I am dreaming of course but it sounds good.

    Why issue an arrest?

This is not a criminal offense she has been accused of. She has been victimized because someone out of her control said something on a rally stage.

If Jattuporn and Nattawut can actually stand on a stage and incite an uprising and assembly of a 200,000 strong and militia trained army out of their very own mouths, and allowed to continue to do so by the criminal courts, as they deem it to be perfectly acceptable behaviour will on bail for the exact same offenses from 2010 terror activities.

Then I can't really see how she can be arrested..

Yet the reds continue to bellow 'double standards'.

The person who urged people to vote for her isn't even connected to her. It was just a foolish statement issued by someone.

What about Kwanchai's wife???.... you saying the red shirts wouldn't have been openly urging the people to vote for her??

You want an individual in court and they don't show, issue a warrant for their arrest. Easy. No excuses!

  3. Like you I would never advise any of my back-home friends to move here. I see many young folks that are intrigued by the booze and sex, after a one week holiday they think they have found utopia and aspire to move here. I see here on TV many young guys are asking if they can live on pocket-money and asking how is the best way they can move here. I'm not a boozer so don't need bars and don't need companionship from foreigners.

I have been living here full time for twenty years and for the most part have enjoyed them all. I first came to Thailand in 1966-67 and fell in love with the place. Did several long projects here over the years and again loved the place each time. I worked internationally for 29 years and lived in four other countries (other than Thailand) for extended periods of time and would never consider any of those places to move to. Having said all that I do miss my home country at times.

I guess we have been back now for a little over a month from our latest visit to Hawaii. Though the purpose of our trip was far from joyful, with the aid of my wife, we were able to fill the time between obligations with food, friends and wonderful memories.
Though there is much to be said for Hawaii, it is no longer my home, but that does not mean we don’t miss it at times. I am not at all sure, however, that we are best served by chasing down every dream. It is nice to leave some things just out of reach and in the realm of fantasy.

Each time we visit my family and friends we go with the intention of staying 2-3 weeks. After a week I am on the phone booking our flight back home (Thailand). What few folks I have left don't even know where Thailand is. My 93 year old aunt thinks I live in Taiwan (God bless her).

I lived in Torino, Italy for 1.5 years and I think I could live in the Tuscany region. Lived in Sardinia for six months and that's not too bad, it's doable for me. My Thai wife would never go for either of those places so here we are.

  4. We have visited CR many times for a few days at a time with the idea in mind to move there. We really did like the place but my wife and I just could not seem to feel comfort there, ditto CM. Just us I suppose but it is a nice place.

It took many years before Chiang Rai began to grow on me, so I can see how it might not be for everyone. For my first 30 years in Thailand I was happier being based in Bangkok and only visiting the countryside on brief visits. For many years Bangkok was as undeveloped as I was prepared to deal with but that did change with time.

I was in my fifties before I even began thinking about living somewhere other than Bangkok. Though I am not enthralled by the temperament of some CR expats, they have never played a part in my relationship with CR. I have a good life here and fortunately have no need of drinking buddies or a village pub.

I am quite a bit north of 50 so at this stage of my life I think I'll have to stick it out where I'm at. To be honest we never found a place we both really liked, Nong Khai, Hua Hin, Phuket and a couple places in Essan. CR and CM came the closest for the both of us but just could not pull the trigger on moving.

I fully understand and I must admit, I cannot imagine what circumstances would compel me to move to Thailand at my present age if I hadn’t already been living here my entire adult life.
Obviously I can see the benefits of travel and seeing as much of the world as one can afford, but to pack up and move to the far side of the world to start a life in a place so strange and different, is something I can’t imagine.
I look at my friends living back home with their Thai wives and fantasizing about retiring to Thailand, and I simply cannot encourage them to go through with it. I am convinced they are much better off visiting from time to time and would have a very difficult time acclimating.

  7. No one is urinating and no one has mentioned cars, houses, wives or used the word hi-so, in this thread because they are not relevant. What is relevant is individuals being lured into moving to a foreign land with false expectations about affordability, without adequate funds to take care of themselves and then becoming a burden on the medical infrastructure and the social fabric as a whole. I don’t see why Thailand should feel obligated to take care of those who see Thailand as little more than a source of cheep booze and affordable sex or whatever, while complaining nonstop about Thailand and Thai people.

VF do you think cheap booze and affordable sex is the main criteria for retirement age people? People I know at these advanced ages have ample funds to support themselves. I think you must have in mind the younger generation who live here on a shoestring.

I was simply paraphrasing a previous poster.

Fair enough, I must have missed that.

  9. Sat outside now enjoying a cold one, air is great, just a bit hot and humid. Welcome and enjoy next weekthumbsup.gif

Music to my ears (and lungs)! Many thanks!

I live in HH, have been here now 7 years. The air quality here is some of the best overall in Thailand. If you you want to check this out just go on the Thai meteorological site and you will find they give the distance that can be seen in kms, so you can compare various places.I hope you enjoy your visit. Take a trip south from HH some 10 kms to the beach at Khao Toa. The beach is called 'Pine Beach' and is some 7 kms long, well worth a day out. There is a good beachside restaurant there that is very cheap for food and beers; the whole of the area is under Army control and is kept nice and clean; they charge you some 20B to enter.

I've never been charged to enter. I think it's only 20B if you go by car, though I always visit by motorbike.

Is this the beach you mention? Go south on Highway 4 over the railway bridge. Straight on about 6-7 kms and turn left at the PTT petrol station (located on the left). This is a military access road (dual carriageway) Stop at the checkpoint and pay 20 baht (was 10 baht 2 months ago) for the car entry. Straight on, over the railway track to Tee junction. If you turn left you reach a car parking area and access to the beach with some Thai restaurants and facilities (bungalows,showers/toilets). This area is very busy on weekends. If you turn right drive ahead past the military hotel about 300 m then follow the road to the right. As you make that turn, there is a small car park on the right with access to the quiet beach but no facilities. Good time to go is after 1 pm when the sun is over the trees heading west which puts the beach in the sun and the tree lined area in the shade (sun behind you). Good gently sloping beach ideal for kids.

The military hotel has a very good restaurant, the rooms are nice and at a reasonable rate for civilians. This hotel too is crowded most weekends. A nice pool but not so inviting as it is out in the open with no shade. Beach front area is just OK.

  10. We can comment as much as we like but until he is listed with "Interpol" my understanding is he can go where he likes-otherwise why not send a Thai Seals"team to confiscate him and whisk him back to Thailand to face the consequences?

A pipe dream I know but maybe one day who knows - and you must ask is he ("T") any worse than the political criminals from every other country around the world (I was going to put region but I think The World is more correct)

Not sure there are any Thai Seal teams that could accomplish this but really extremely qualified people are at the fingertips if desired.

    The Dog would do nicely.

Yes indeedy. Dog has my vote. However there are others that are more discreet and would bring him back in any condition you wish.

You must be talking about people like the ones who have been terrorizing protests with grenades heheee. They couldn't shoot a grenade through a goal post.

Sent from my GT-S5310 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

What a naive post. Not talking about 'Thai experts'. Evidently your borders and knowledge ends at the Thai borders.
