  1. I weighed the same (165 #) since I was in high school back in the '50's up until the time I moved to Thailand moons ago. I fitted right in with the beer drinking biker crowd I ran with here, ate gobs of curry and rice and barrels of beer, gained forty pounds over about a ten year period. I quit All the booze, curry's and rice and nothing more (no diet). Six months later I was back down to my military weight of 170#. That was one year ago and I am still good.

  2. It's not the double-decking that's the problem. It's the half-level training (or none) that these drivers get.

Never yet seen a bus driver in Thailand use an engine for breaking. Naw--ride those smokin' brakes 'til they fail!

Again, a smoke-and-mirrors move by the inept Land Transport Ministry.

I am not an expert on Diesel engines but aren't most if not all equipped with "Jake-Brakes'? Banning double decker buses I agree is not the real issue, it's the untrained drivers. Reminds me a bit like the government's ban on selling booze between certain hours, takes any responsibility away from the booze retailer/bus drivers, just use a 'shotgun' law and that fixes the problems.

  3. It is just you. Remember Black May? Thailand was just as screwy and corrupt 20 years ago - there was coup after coup and Thai citizens were attacked by the government. However, I loved the place then and I love it now, even if there are plenty of bad apples. There always has been.

Been living here for many years and with all the bad you mention is mostly true IMO, But I have never seen or heard of a Buddhist Monk being beaten, To me this takes things to a whole other level and it is no good.

  4. <snip>

BTW, on the Bangkok Post webpage, why is YL pictured in a wheelchair?

It was a failed attempt on her life by the desperate yellow shirt Bangkok amart.

Either that, or she tripped getting out of her van and twisted her ankle.

A lot of things concerning YL seem to fail smile.png.

Just did a google and saw the vid of her slipping. She got up straight away and didn't seem to be in pain, unlike my experience with torn ankle ligaments. Maybe she'll need to go overseas for specialised treatment? Immediately?

What? And miss her corruption trial? Heaven forbid.

Dallas YL has got her 'non-appearance' before the court covered already. From the wheel chair to a hospital bed, two days before the date for her to appear.

  5. Yes, treated unfairly, someone neglected to level the floor perfectly because she fell while walking on it. How could the expect her to walk on non-perfect flooring. I mean really, she doesn't than the experience to walk crooked paths.

If she wants uneven paths she wants to try beach road Pattaya, from BiB, to walking street, SHOP SIDE, unreal, sorry NO invalids--wheelchairs--pushchairs.

It is a free for all you fight your way along-lamp posts--electric posts---electric wires- blocked with stalls, It is no Joke, Pattaya city hall ---SHAME on YOU.

    Try it Yingluck,

Comment from me ---The Thai people, and tourists are treated unfairly.

This little stunt will for sure be a reason given to delay her appearance in court.

  6. The PROBLEM is that she is carrying the sins of her brother, and the other BIG PROBLEM is that she is being forced to live and work with many absolutely corrupt and lying government officials, and the other BIGGER PROBLEM is that during the first few months of her term she was preoccupied with other things rather than being available in parliament, and the other EVEN BIGGER PROBLEM is that she intrusted many of her duties to the corrupt members of her team, and believed all their lies, and now she is carrying the brunt of everything, and what she and other people may not realise, is that she is perhaps going to be used as the ‘sacrificial lamb’ to insure the continuation of the rape of the Kingdom.

What is actually needed is a complete re-vamp of her members to insure that the corrupt, lying, members that also come to work intoxicated, or just sit and play Facebook, watch pornographic movies, or sometimes don’t even bother to come to work when an important sessions are in progress, and replace them with solid, publically elected members that carry the interest of the Kingdom at heart.

I actually have wondered how she would do if she was on her own. With all her prepared-canned answers and her lack of command of the English language it is difficult to say IMO. Being a long time guest here I do not care who the government is but would like to see a bipartisan one in power that would take care of the Thai people and this wonderful country. For the first six months when TS first came to power I really had a good feeling about the government. After about one year he became scary.

  7. "violently manhandling her"

The minuscule bruise must have been life-threatening.

    rolleyes.gif

Were the guards in the wrong?

    Yes

    Is the complainant grossly exaggerating?

    Yes

The mob assaulted a defenceless lone woman. It was a terrifying and traumatic event. She had no idea what they would do to her.

You may not have the ability to understand the fear and terror she experienced, but those of us with some modicum of humanity do.

The event was wrong in so many ways. This was politically motivated terror and intimidation.

This is Thailand and not the west. Evidently you do not understand the 'Thai way' of conducting themselves in these kinds of situations. Either you need to get out more or do some reading about the Thai culture, OR you are simply a red shirt sympathizer. I don't ever criticize any Thai for their conduct and their way of doing business, their business is not mine.

You state, " you don't ever criticize any Thai for their conduct and their way of doing business, their business, not mine"

    I see.

So I take it then that are not a critic of the current Thai government, nor of the former PM Thaksin?

Odd, since you have expressed your view previously that you did not agree with the current government policy(s). After all it is the Thai way of doing business and you would never criticize that, right? thumbsup.gif

Right!!! You still need to get out more and learn about Thai culture.

  8. One really does wonder why a respected journalist only covers one side of the story. blink.png

No wonder no-one trusts CNN anymore.

Hopefully her readership will diminish for such poor reporting.

Shame on you Ms Amanpour. facepalm.gif

As far as I know Ms. Amanpour is a far left leaning news journalist. I have a feeling a list of prepared questions were given to her by YL. This is the first time I recall YL responding in Thai to an English interview.

  9. So better not to give them another chance then.

    What would you recommend?

. Sure they can have another chance after eradicating the country of all of the Shinawattra's influence, IMO that will go a long way to righting Thailand. This group of thieves is the reason the country is in such a mess and there is no denying that. The low information paid for voters that blindly elected this bunch is as guilty as the Shins. Education education and education is the only way out, but there again it is not my place to criticize or to educate the Thai people.

using 'Thai way' as an excuse for bullying and harassment... pathetic

I am not making excuses for anyone but I do think based on your comment you do need to get out more. Are you a Thai citizen or just a guest in this country like most of us in TV? IMO you surely do not understand anything about the Thai people? Do you even live here?

  11. It also believes the caretaker government has lost the support of the international community.

I don't see the international community dancing for joy when PDRC members blocked voting booths and beat-up citizens who were just trying to cast their votes. Or when they beat up taxi-drivers and abduct shoppers, and threatened to kidnap the PM and her family.

This quote above is just desperation masked by bravado, in this case. Mostly the international community wants to see democracy, with voting-rights for all, and an end to mob-rule. This is just good for business, and the international community values a stable peaceful business environment above just about anything.

I do not condone airport shutdowns, but I did not see too much thugs in operation re yellows in their fling.

I have seen in this sporadic violations during these protests.

Nothing compares to the RED mob intimidating rule starting with the 2010 burning, they themselves brought out the army to uproot and look what they did in retreat.

Look at the whole picture, would you like this regime to carry on--or a fresh start ??? reforms before an election to rid the election of cancerous elements.

Ridiculous thought but why not let the people decide?

FYI, the people did decide and look at the mess the country is in.
