Hey Stu, this Sony model you bought is normally 256 Ram, did they uprade to 512 free of charge for you or is there another series of this model that comes with 512 Ram? I see the 256 at IT City for the same price you quoted.

Still like it? I'm in the market.

    Thanks

  2. I was in Chiang Mai last week and wanted to try the burger fare as recommended here, first I went to Filmore East at noontime, got a regular burger, fries and a beer. Very good.

Two days later went to the Mango Tree about 6:00 pm, ordered a standard burger, fries and a beer, both Filmore and Mango Tree were good but I will have to give the Mango the edge on this one and no it is not because of the Mango being air conditioned. :o

    Dave,

A friend of mine is arriving from the UK next month and will be looking for a bike straight away, I will steer him your way soon as he arrives.

  4. Power Station near the Embassy of Laos will build you a chopper, try them, nice and capable folks when it comes to Harleys. Me thinks they have the best Harley mechanic in Thailand.

Did you hear about the guy from Pattaya who took his bike there and they forgot to tighten gas line. Riding down the road and bike went up in flames severely burning him and gf. Went back to shop and they said this happens.

My goodness, I sure have not heard of this, I have used this shop many times over the years and know the owners and mechanics well, I will inquire. Seems I would have heard of this as I get emails from my biker friends on a daily basis. Where do you get your information?

A german friend of mine had a rental bike go up in flames between Pattaya and BKK back in -93 (that was a Honda CBR400 though). Gas leak - he told me he had to reimburse the renter somewhere in the 40 kTHB region (if I remember correctly).

I would also probably have heard of a Harley going up in flames...but no. This happened recently?

    ajahnlau,

I just now got off the phone with some biker friends of mine regarding the Harley fire as a result of Power Station's quality of work, they have heard nothing of the sort, neither a Harley fire in Thailand or any bad work being reported on Power Station. Please tell me when/where this happened and where did you get your information, this is a very serious acusation.

I too feel sure if a Harley went up in flames :o in Thailand I would have heard about it, difficult to keep something like that a secret, I will ask the chief wrench at Power Station, hope he don't kill me if it's not true..

PM presides over launch of 'Modern Radio 107 FM Metropolis'

    http://etna.mcot.net/query.php?nid=27865

BANGKOK, June 2 (TNA) - Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday presided over the launch of a radio initiative of the Mass Communication Organization of Thailand (MCOT), called the 'Modern Radio 107 FM Metropolis' Programme, held at a hotel here.

The ceremony took place at around 06:00 p.m. at the Plaza Athinee Hotel, in which a number of distinguished guests took part, including foreign ambassadors in Thailand, local journalists, top executives of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), the national flag carrier, and those of MCOT.

The Thai leader praised the creativity and initiation of MCOT, through Thai News Agency (TNA)--its major news production structure--for joining forces with world five international news agencies in jointly turning Radio MCOT 107 FM to be 'Modern Radio 107 FM Metropolis' with around the clock services through their news exchange deals.

The five international news agencies include Japan-based NHK, US-based CNN and VOA, UK-based BBC, and Australia-based ABC.

"I support creativity and initiation of people in all circles, particularly MCOT, which is now a state-run media organization. I am delighted and proud of MCOT for its development to a further 'modernized pace', by lauching the Modern Radio initiative, beginning with the 'Modern Radio 107 FM Metropolis. I hope that the creativity will soon be followed suite by other radio stations across the country so that the number of radio audience will be increasing in the future", said the Thai leader.

"According to the government's recent survey, 83% of news consumers in the country now rely on TV news reports; while those who rely on newspapers and radio news reports account for only 8% and 7% respectively, the figures of which should be boosted up", he pointed out.

The prime minister also pledged that the government would continue to support MCOT's potential and development ideas in the future.

He suggested that MCOT, through TNA, continued its moves to further develop itself to acheive its goal of becoming an internationally-recognized news production base in the region, serving precise and timely news services to people all the world over in the future, as well as promoting good relationship among people and countries worldwide, and retain the kingdom's good image and prestige internationally.

MCOT's Director-General Mingkwan Sangsuwan earlier told a press conference that the 'Modern Radio' would begin with the launch of the 'Metropolis 107' radio station, using the English-language Radio MCOT FM1007MHz as the broadcaster, and would then be followed by phase-in series of initiative programmes, like those of 'Modernine TV'.

Highlights of the 'Metropolis 107 Radio' Programme will be the unprecedented cooperation in news presentation in English between TNA, and the five internationally-renowned news agencies, according to Mr. Mingkwan.

Broadcast on the FM 107 MHz frequency, the 'Metropolis Radio' has begun to offer entertainment and news information to the audience since this morning.

Mr. Mingkwan said the 'Metropolis 107 Radio' would target the Thai audience who are interested in listening to news development and learning English, as well as foreign envoys, executives, tourists, and expatriates who stay in Thailand, and are unable to understand Thai.

"The radio would broadcast news coverage provided by TNA and the five international news agencies around the clock, with live news reports from every corner of the world at the beginning of every hour", he stated.

It would also entertain the audience with international popular songs in the 1970s-1980s, he said.

Mr. Mingkwan disclosed that MCOT would also inaugurate the Super Station on 1 June as a venue where the Thai audience in every corner of the country could listen to favorite folk songs, and could link their friendship to ease stress and loneliness.

It will be broadcast on FM 95 MHz during 24.00-05.00 hours, according to the MCOT chief.

MCOT has three main structures, including Modernine TV (TV Channel 9), TNA, and Radio MCOT, as well as supportive units, namely the Marketing, Accounting, Planning and Policy, Personnel, Public Relations, Welfare, and Engineering Department. (TNA)--E002

Anyone listen to it yet ?

    :D:D:o

Yes I have listened off and on the past two days; the jury is still out if it is any good or not.

  8. No point in bringing the bike over, since as you point out there are plenty of decent bikes available in LOS at similar to US prices.

Who do you ride with? I'll probably hook up with geriatric MC, excuse me, Jesters MC once over. Got a soft spot for Woody...

    /// DFW

Rode with the Immortals here in Bangkok for about six years but have had a foot problem and have not ridden much in the past year but foot is improving so maybe be back on the road soon. I am also in the market for a Heritage Softail, year 2000 plus(will keep my WG), I want the TC88 engine, my WG is rubber mounted so no problem with that but don't care much about the rigid mounts any, too old.

Don't know Woody in Pattaya but have heard of him, also I know a couple guys in the Jesters, good folks.

  9. Yup - got myself a 2001 FXD SuperGlide, DiamondIce...

Riding around here in Dallas is not that fun though...

    Whaddaya ride?

FXDWG, 1997 Wideglide, no fun riding in Bangkok but ok up-country if you keep your eye on the farmers and other Thai-style drivers. Will you bring your bike over or sell and replace it here? Lots of good buys here now.

  10. :o i have been with my wife for 20 months now & yes we have a few arguements but who doesn't.

she isn't with me because of my money or to get residency (green card) in my country UK. i met here whilst travelling around thailand, we spent just over a year doing this before setling in koh samui for 4 months.

i completed my tefl course but then had a very bad motorbike accident. they had 2 amputate my right leg above the knee, put a metal plate in my hip, plaster my arm & i had skin grafts on my other arm. i was very close 2 death.

this was before me & my wife (tim) married so she could have left me very easily. she didn't she slept the first night in the hospital in a narrow hospital trolley covered in blood holding me and crying until they had 2 give her something 2 make her sleep. she has helped me throughall of this asking 4 nothing but my love.

we have since married & currently in the UK but going back 2 thailand in about 7 months.

i trust my wife with my life. she has proved her love 4 me one thousand times over. although i have lost my leg i have not lost the woman that gave me the strength 2 get through my "problem".

there r some good ones out there

    c ya
