  1. How about updating a "Real" copy of XP on line from MS? Will they know it is a "Real" copy? :o  :D

No sweat. Just finished downloading and installing service pack #2, and I've done the updates many times in the past with no problems.

I don't think I've ever seen a real one for sale in Thailand...

Thanks Ajarn, I assume the same applies with updating a "Real" copy on MS Office on line? :D:D

As far as alchohol is concerned, I don't use it much anymore but I sure do enjoy a cold one(or two) at the end of a 400 mile bike ride,

Can you describe how a beer tasts after a four hundred miles bike ride? I just go around the corner to the little shop. It is not more than four hundred meters. Where do you live now?

    ***********************************************************

Sure I can describe the taste, Bangkok-Chiang Mai about 400 miles and after this ride a couple of beers(Singha) does indeed taste good over dinner. Have done this trip several times and the Sing brew tastes good every time, Let me say that I do not drink and drive.

  3. Hey ExNewMex, I assume you are from the "Land of Enchantment", where if you don't mind telling? I worked in the oil fields outside Lovington at port of entry waaaayy back (Parker drilling out of Tulsa, Oklahoma) , NM is beautiful state and have considered moving to Ruidoso, need to get away from so many folks.

As far as alchohol is concerned, I don't use it much anymore but I sure do enjoy a cold one(or two) at the end of a 400 mile bike ride, I have had my fair share of booze in my younger days and must say that I enjoyed every drank I ever took. :o

  4. With all the issues facing Mr. Big such as bird flu, dog flu, people bird flu, the problems in the south of Thailand, Mr. Ekayuth, trying to hide Air Force one out, and in general his waning popularity, could there possibly be some diversionary stuff going on here with this "new" war on drugs program? Seems very odd to me he would launch this drug deal at this time. :o:D

  5. Is this a typo! Baht 810 million costs for each top star! No wonder the top guys are interested and show up in Thailand, if this is true they showed up with bells on. I am sure this is a typo and this is a silly a$$ post but judging from some of the salary contracts some of the world's top athletes these days I suppose this amount of Baht 810 million each could squeak by as being possible, that is a scary amount of money but as I say this has got to be a typo and this posting is silly as he11. BAHT 810 million each!!!! :o:D

Agassi may play in Bangkok next year

    Published on Oct 5, 2004

[TENNIS] BECTero aims to bring former world No 1 Andre Agassi to the 2005 Thailand Open and to also stage a big Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) event.

Brian Marcar, the managing director of BECTero, said he would try very hard to get eighttime Grand Slam champion Agassi to Thailand before the American retires from the tour, which is expected to be next year.

“Actually, we tried to have him this year but he said he would prefer to spend time with his family, especially his children. But we would try to make another request and hopefully he will say okay,’’ said the boss of BECTero Entertainment, the organisers of the Thailand Open.

BECTero is also looking at staging the biggest women’s tennis tournament in Thailand either a week before or a week after the men’s event in 2005. Marcar said he has been negotiating with the WTA and things are going well.

“If successful, Thai fans will be able to see the top three players in the WTA. They could be the Williams sisters or Maria Sharapova,’’ he said.

The Thailand Open was a huge success over the past two years with thousands of fans packing the Impact Arena every day. A record crowd of more than 10,000 fans packed into the stadium for the semifinal between Roger Federer and local hero Paradorn Srichaphan.

But despite the big crowds and the success of the tournament, Marcar claimed organisers were facing a loss because of the hefty appearance fees of the top players.

“[B]Around 50 per cent of the costs were on appearance fees. The cost is around Bt810 million for each top star, :D

  6. anything that keeps time I have a weakness for.

GR Thought you had a Thai Wife??

    Sorry ... Hee Hee :D

    ct

CTG, I indeed do have a Thai wife and that is another weakness I have. :o

  7. There must be some deep down reason that I can't understand why he would do this at this time since he is still under some fire both domestically and abroad over the last crackdown on drugs and the killing of 2500 souls, I imagine it has something to do(he thinks) with boosting his popularity at the polls, maybe so but my instincts tell me he is off on another of his witch hunts and it will be one more nail in TRT's coffin. :o

  8. Looking for battery powered wall clock in dark wood or plastic that has easy to read display of time/day/date and can be Thai or English in the 2-7,000 baht range. Have not found in weekend market or Central. Any ideas?

I saw a very large (about 18" diameter) analog-day-date at Central Rama 3 last week(built of the style of Suisse RR clock), as I recall price was about Baht 5K. I also saw a very large analog wall clock(30" diameter)at Zen at the formerly World trade, don't remember if it had day-date but I believe it did, price as I remember was about Baht 10K. I am always in the market for wall clocks, I have about twenty wall clocks in my townhouse now. Wall clock crazy I am, Wrist watches too, anything that keeps time I have a weakness for.

    Good luck. :o

  9. I was out cruising around Phraw today, and I stopped to get some chips... Taped to the outside of the chips bag as a promotion was a fairly flat foil envelope..

Where is Praw? Far from Chiang Mai? :o

  10. My wife always disconnects all electrical appliances from the world when not in use, a little irritating to me but it keeps out all the weather issues, like another member said,, the only way to guarantee keeping your stuff safe from the weather is to unplug the system from the power source, I do now, my wife taught me. :D:o

  11. Also in the sub 500 baht range the choices are many. Likely more than in the 1000 baht range actually. They just don't list them on the hotel booking sites. :D

    Chanchao,

Thanks for the attention, We have stayed at several guesthouses and hotels in the Baht 500 range, some good and some very good but parking a vehicle is my only complaint. On three different occassions we returned to the hotel/Guesthouse mid evening and the parking lot was jampack full. On one occasion I had to go to an overnight pay parking lot and the other times I had to park my vehicle about 500 meters away from the hotel.

So, I am trying to stay away from that experience.

    :D:o

  12. So Mr Roaper

You have it from the top and the bottom of the CM Posters :D

    Good Luck

Indeed I do and all the provided info and suggestions from all are much appreciated, it is nice to have boots on the ground,

    Thanks again. :o

  13. CTG, have you actually stayed there? I know it's cheap and looks reasonable from the outside

    No have you?

Was going as you said by the nice appearance from the outside.

GotRoaper - you worry too much :D

There are hundreds of places to stay. They can not all be full.

CTG, only reporting on what we have discussed here. :o

  14. FYI, two weeks ago my wife(Thai) phoned the Eurasia hotel for a room booking but they were full, told us to try back next month(October), my wife phoned back this morning and guess what, they are fully booked for the entire month of October so it seems they may have something going for them. This place is not a kept secret is it? :D:D

Phoned the Tarin hotel today as well, they only have a few rooms left, the girl at Tarin said they only have parking for a few cars, the price is ok but it seems the car parking issue might make it undesireable. I just do not want the hassle of finding a place to park if we come back to the hotel late.

Has the high season began already?

    :o
