"The first, relates to drones used for education, sport and research purposes or on occasions which will help to aid the development of the country."
In other words: "We can use drones to spy on private citizens performing legal activities, but they can't use drones to expose our nefarious acts."

"The institute said there was no trace of semen either."
Note to institute: Rapists are aware of the use of condoms. That is why "real" professional forensic scientists also check for hair, perspiration, skin cell and other bodily samples. I'm not saying that the findings presented cannot be valid. However, the limited and unscientific methods used will always cloud the validity of the results of the investigation. Even a broken clock is correct twice a day.

"A doctor later reported that there was no sign of rape on the victim except wounds from the physical assault. Police, however, found the suspect's semen at the scene, which matched eight other home intrusion and rape cases."
Perhaps if Thailand would redefine the term "rape" to meet what is accepted in the west, the doctor's report would be different, and there would be many more arrests and convictions. I am sure there are those who continue to believe that rape is impossible inside of a marriage. I have also been informed that among some hill tribes that if a girl is alone, a man will not be charged with raping her and it is up to to the girl's family to take all responsibility in raising the child if a pregnancy results from the rape. Of course, if the rapist is a member of a prominent family, everyone looks the other way.

"Thai junta leader and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has instructed the media to stop asking children about whether they are familiar with his moral teachings, known as the 'Twelve Values'..'.It's a turnoff for the kids.' "
The real reason is that the turnoff is loss of face. When children only have 10 fingers, they continually get stuck remembering #s 11 and 12.

"The production of the sequel to the famous movie ‘Lost in Thailand’ that stirred a tourism boom in the northern region of Thailand, due to its filming location in Chiang Mai, is currently waiting to be approved from the department... The movie will mostly be filmed in Yaowarat, Chinatown of Bangkok."
That's a relief. Bangkok can now get all the Chinese tourists driving on the wrong side of the road (The hand sign in the above photo must be some representation of the size of the average Chinese tourist's field of vision while driving), stopping in the middle of the street and blocking traffic in order to snap a photo, and throwing their garbage/spitting wherever they happen to be. Another MOTS campaign for quality tourists.

"His statement came in reaction to a survey by Human Rights Watch which indicated that Thai people working in the agricultural sector were not only being forced to toil in a danger-prone environment but were also paid much lower wages than the standard rate."
Unlike those foreigners working on fishing boats in Thailand

" Besides eating the food, there are workshops to paint umbrellas and places to paint Rooster bowls ‘ชามตราไก่’, and participants can bring their design back home."
Sounds like the same daily activities found in a state psychiatric hospital. Considering this idea came from TAT....

"Reports of foreign tourists being ripped off by locals are destroying the image of the Thai tourism industry..."
What?!!! How did this happen after so many years of the LOS and honest tourist services? A few tourists get murdered and thousands get ripped off by unscrupulous Jet Ski operators and taxi drivers. Those savage westerners have not progressed to Mai Pen Rai and actually won't settle for being ripped off. Picky, Picky, Picky.

"The gesture somehow prompted the driver, said to be teenager, to stop the car, step out and fired two shots at an 8 year-old female stray dog nicknamed “Sue Bue,” then drove away on the night of January 13."
Every society has these antisocial scumbags. They start with animals and then move up the food chain. Sounds like a perfect candidate for technical college and shooting students from rival colleges. However, I'm not sure that's a step UP from shooting dogs.

"Prayut, who presided over an event to mark the occasion in Bangkok, expressed hope that all schools would be of good quality and be free from the "tea money" issue."
Maybe I've become too cynical after living in Thailand (Before, I was only quite cynical), but doesn't it look like the older teacher with the grey hair is holding out her hand for a "donation"?
Reminds me of the scene in Dr. Strangelove when Peter Sellers had to subdue the normal reaction of his right hand needing to salute/heil. Old habits die hard.
Maybe it's just a rumor, but the story going around is that Prayut is getting a Ph.D. from the Prayut School of Nuclear Radiology at one of the local universities.

"Two teenage technical students were shot dead in what police suspect to be an incident of gang violence in Pathum Thani province yesterday morning."
If one doesn't have to study in order to receive passing grades and graduate, then one needs to find something to do with all that spare time.
I am sure the other ASEAN and western nations can't wait to set up businesses in Thailand so they can take advantage of the fine graduates produced by this great educational system.
The only thing that boggles my mind is why U.S. or British TV hasn't developed a Hogan's Heroes or Keeping Up Appearances type of comedy about the Thai education system.

"The Meteorological Department has advised people to keep warm as the weather will remain cold for many days."
People who are too dumb to know by themselves to keep warm during cold weather, deserve to be selected out of the gene pool.
" 200 blankets were given to many poor families."
Too poor to buy warm clothing and blankets, but not too poor to buy fancy cell phones, cigarettes and Lao Cao.
"The Meteorological Department has advised people to keep warm as the weather will remain cold for many days."

Ignorant, insensitive remark.
" 200 blankets were given to many poor families."
Too poor to buy warm clothing and blankets, but not too poor to buy fancy cell phones, cigarettes and Lao Cao."
You know that? Are you sure?
Natural selection is not about ignorance (except when it interferes with survival) or insensitivity. It is about the ability to survive and pass on genes. Period. I am sure you wrote your remarks while helping the poor villagers survive the harsh winter and not from you nice comfortable room or cafe while sipping on a cappuccino. Oh yes....Natural selection also does not take into account hypocrisy. Thus, your ability to still be alive and exhibit your holier than thou attitude.
And yes, I am sure. I have been to tribal villages where "winter" clothing and blankets were donated. It appeared that everyone, including many of the children had cell phones and a good number of the men were sitting around playing cards, smoking tobacco and drinking.

"A NEW REGIONAL initiative to curb HIV/Aids is in operation, with Thailand being positioned as its hub."
Hub??? That's the main cause of HIV in Thailand. As in: "Hubba Hubba, who needs condom?"
"Thai Red Cross Aids Research Centre director Praphan Phanuphak said Asia Inform was based on the very familiar concept of 'teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime'.
What really needs to be taught is not how to fish, but how to abstain until they can engage in sex in a responsible way. Thai men know how to fish, except they don't use a hook. It's more like spear fishing and they don't care who (or what) they spear.

"Vietnam will support Thailand as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council..."
That's about as useless as me supporting a Thai politician who is running for office. It would be more meaningful if a member nation of the Security Council voiced support of Thailand's membership. So far, haven't heard of any. Thailand, the Hub of Wishful Pipe Dreams.

"Gen Tanasak on this occasion assured the Italian Ambassador that Thailand has attached a high priority to tourists’ safety and will take care of about 250,000 Italians visiting the country each year."
Hopefully the Italian tourists have an appetite for Thai food. Once they see what the Thais have done to their beloved pizza and pasta sauce, they will wish they could sue for defamation...And...Unlike in Thailand, they would have a legitimate gripe.

" 'We are very confident that the plastic film in the nugget occurred outside our production plant,' Chuck Warta, president of Cargill Meats Thailand, said in the statement."
The validity of an accusation has a tendency to be in direct proportion to the intensity of the denial.

"The move is part of the prime minister’s plan to push Thailand to become a hub of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)..."
The reason there has to be a "push" is because there is nothing in Thailand pulling in businesses, qualified teachers, or customers for Thai products.
Perhaps if the education system produced graduates who could speak a language common to all businesses in the world (Yes folks, it's still English by a wide margin) and developed the skills necessary for today's high tech world, that would be a start. Then there are the common business practices and work visa fiasco which need to be changed to attract skilled workers, teachers and foreign business to the country.
Thailand has yet to realize that healthy competition is good for the economy and favoring non productive monopolies is the death knell to economic success. Hopefully for Thailand they wake up before the headlines read: "Thailand is eyeing to overtake Cambodia and Burma in business and production".

"He is confident that given the standards used by Thailand-based factories..."
"Standards" consist of getting away with anything that will increase profits until there is a outbreak of some sickness. Then feign ignorance. promise it will never happen again, and make a few payoffs. How can they promise it will never happen again when they just said that they had no idea what was happening? Lieland at its finest.

"The Minister, however, said 90 % of the complaints had been addressed and that the ministry would dispatch its officials to the location where the complaints originated to collect further information on the issue in order to solve the problems once and for all."
Sounds like the same solution as all the other problems this country has solved. Listen, ignore and pretend nothing is wrong.
What other information does he need? There is more noise than is healthy for human habitation.
How about an "effective" solution. Kicking them all out on the street is a way to "solve' the problem, and much easier than finding new residences at the government's expense..

Don't drive a car painted the same color as an elephant's skin, you dumb s...!!! Horny elephants in heat are like horny drunken tourists. If it remotely resembles its own species (Drunken humans don't realize their misperceptions until the next morning and see who they woke up with) they are going to try and screw it. Elephants are big mothers, and what is misconstrued as an attack is really their way of cuddling. Similar to the intimacy after a session of lovemaking in prison when Tiny takes a bride.

"The retailers believed the middlemen have been behind the rising prices."
That's the goal of every middleman. No matter what country. The farmer/producer and the final consumer get screwed, and the middlemen make out like a bandit...Which they usually are.

"The Chinese are enthusiastic consumers of fruit, downing about twice the world average. This is fortunate for Thailand, the source of half of the tropical fruit imported by China."
They just like the idea that now they have peels, pits and other remains of the fruit to throw on the floor along with all the other crap from the rest of their meal, while they turn restaurants into garbage dumps.

So what's this all about? Why were they been taken from PhangNga to Songkhla?
To be sold to unscrupulous human traffickers.
Bite your tongue. The new regime professed its undying effort to eliminate this type of trafficking. The story will be revised to: "Some drunk ladies accidentally crawled into the back of truck and died from drinking too much alcohol while celebrating"... some lame holiday.

Koh Tao mayor blasts UK media's 'negative reporting'
in Thailand News

"Wait till he actually meets some of the British press at a press conference, he will learn what the real world is like, or he will run away with his tail between his legs."
He would have to leave Thailand first, where reporting the truth doesn't get you thrown behind bars.
