Why are you making us study English at a Thai university?
So when Lao, Burmese, Cambodian, etc. students ask the same question, the answer won't be: "Do you want to wind up like Thai students and only be qualified to work in a noodle stand?")That's assuming they don't have to count out change).

"The Ministry of Interior is pushing forward a campaign to improve performances of entry-level officials."
What a great opportunity for those students studying English to learn and understand the phrase "Blind leading the blind".

Good! Because these, and other "magic skin products" doesn't work.
Neither do Amulets. However, I don't see the scammers who sell them being charged and paying fines.

"Organisations in Thailand are losing an average of 73 days of productive time per employee each year due to health-related absenteeism and employees who still work while ill..."
Just imagine how much productive time is lost due to "My Pen Rai".

3 hours ago, Fex Bluse said:A Thai professor friend of mine who teaches at Chulalongkorn University told me a long time ago that Thais goto school not to be educated but to be socialized. School is where Thais learn to be Thai - the most important characteristic being where in Thai society they fit, their hierarchy.
Until they change their culture, none of us have much to worry about as Thais will never be competitive. Our beer and women will stay cheap.
You must have flunked Mathematics and Chemistry...#1: Beer is not cheap in Thailand...and #2 It's not beer. A chemical analysis of what they try to pass off as beer will always result in the conclusion that "Your horse has diabetes".
As for the women being cheap...Many farangs will relate their experiences of Thai women being magicians. by making all their inhibitions and money disappear in one night.

"Smart Visa holders will be able to use Fast Track immigration service at all international airports in Thailand."
GREAT!!! They will now get faster access to under educated students, under trained workers, and a culture that will always believe it's citizens are the most intelligent on earth, and don't need some outsider telling them how to improve.

"THAILAND IS ready to support a greater Asean role in resolving the Rakhine crisis..."
Because Thailand has such a great track record of dealing with Burmese in a fair manner. ????

"He said had the law been fully enforced, Anucha’s death could have been prevented. A new law is now working its way through Parliament."
It will be another law without any teeth due to universal lack of enforcement. If any law would be fully, or in most cases partially enforced, there wouldn't be all the road carnage. There wouldn't be men killing for no other reason than saving face. There wouldn't be the stealing of public land.
Oh, let's face it. If laws were enforced, we wouldn't be in Thailand (or Cambodia).

"ABOUT 600,000 “very poor” students will soon receive an extra Bt800 per semester..."
If 300 baht can buy a vote, I would venture to guess that 800 baht should be able to buy a higher grade and a little more face. It appears that the big winners here will be the teachers giving out those grades.

I love it when there is a silver lining to an otherwise negative story.

"7-Eleven in Thailand, has begun a campaign to “reduce and stop” plastic bags at its stores nationwide."
The goal is to achieve this so it coincides with the establishment of fair elections, a true and functional democracy, and the elimination of corrupt public officials.
Closest estimated timeline...4-8 lifetimes.

"Thailand will pay heavy price for over-reliance on China."
Too late to change now. Once the water has been let out of the dam, you can't get it back in.

Well, if you can't trust the Thai and Chinese governments at their word, who can you trust?
My point exactly.

“Can Thailand lure the Chinese back?”
As for many of us who reside here, I am sure many would pose this question: Why would you want that?

"The Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) has confiscated Bt4.1 million in assets from a former special-branch police officer and related persons on the suspicion that they are ill-gotten gains."
They will never learn. If they want to keep some of those "ill-gotten gains", a good portion needs to be funneled upwards. Fail to grease one important set of hands, and this is the result.

"...73.6 percent want politicians who are concerned about the well-being of the people..."
Make up your mind. Do you want those who are concerned about the well-being of the people, or do you want politicians?
You can't have both.

"Asked about financial help from the Royal Thai Army, Rungruedee said she was told he would get about Bt30,000 compensation as basic help.
“But to date, we have not yet received the compensation,” she said."
What a cheap liar. If I knew I wasn't going to pay her anything, I would have promised her 1.000,000 baht.

"authorities would also allow the use of marijuana for traditional Thai medicine..."
If marijuana has never been used as a treatment in the past, how can it be "traditional"?
