  1. Any one try The Larder recently?   3/9 Sukkasem Rd Suthep, Chiang Mai 50200 Thailand ( Think its soi 6 off Neimenheimen rd, (excuse spelling).  Opens at 08:30 on a morning. Give it a try, if only for the different types of Coffee. I found the produce to be quite fresh and plenty of it, so Should set you up for the day.

Hope this helps, mind you with your wife now being a dab hand in the old pie division it may be redundant in your case.

  3. Another bread reccomendation:-  If you like Sourdough bread try the loaves produced by Lew and Xavier. Check on their website for locations, I use the Stall at Sansai Tong Tung market, open Sat and Sun 10:00 am to 16:00 pm. Don't worry if they are not there at 10 just sit down and have a coffee and wait while they turn up and set up.

There are 2 other shops see their facebook page Lew Xavier Bakery  or their LEWXAVIERBAKERY.COM website for location of other sites and opening hours.

    Hope you enjoy.

  4. Thought I'd throw my hat in the ring chaps. I always felt that the Australian reds were quite quaffable. Any thing from Margaret River, (West Aus), being my preference. Failing that you could always pick up a bottle or two of Max's Cabernet Sauvignon or the Shiraz,  made by Penfold's winery. Cost 850-990 baht.  I don't think you would be too disappointed.

  5. Try Route 66, Vehicle heading towards town along Mea jo rd Turn to left at Ruam chok and travel towards Payap University along the ring rd. after the next intersection and just before the turn in to Payap Universary is Route 66 an American style diner. Some good looking ommelettes available. (The full English breakfast there is very good as well, cost 250 baht, with limitless tea and coffee).

  6. As a further update to the bread situation:-

I mentioned the TOPS supermarket on the bottom floor in Central Festival, they do have a good selection of diferent breads, including the large German dark bread fofr 290 baht, (these can be easily cut into quarters and frozen till needed, without messing with the taste. So worth popping in there to have a change from goods at Saint Etienne.

Sausage Rolls.  I do like a decent sausage roll and up until recently I had not seen any on sale, other than the frankfurter sausage wrapped in a sheet of Puff Pastry.  I have recently found some decent sausage rolls available in the freezer section at the "Sloans" dedicated shop. It used to be the Artisans Butcher shop

Here is their website too.  https://sloanes.co.th/
I know this is not a bread shop, but I felt they were worth a mention. The frozen sausage rolls need to be left out to defrost, then an egg wash coating the pastry. I then put them in my Air Fryer, at 180 deg. for 20 minutes, turning them over about 10-15 minues in. The cost is 180 baht for 2 large ones.   I hope you enjoy.

  7. In answer to your question OC, No have not had it done yet. I went down to Princ Hospital in Lamphun on the Sunday morning, joined the large queue waiting for the doctor. As I was paying privately I was shunted to the head of the queue. I had the usual tests with the eye drops applied. The doctor then checked the results etc. and said that as there were no problems then she saw no need for me to have the surgery for another year or two, which I felt was a bit of a result. So will put the work off till next year. My main reasoning for going to Lamphun is that it serves as the eye hospital for the whole area, for the Thai people. They get through a high number of ops per week, so if there is any problem then they will hopefully have seen it before and will be able to cope with it.

Will update as to costings when I eventually get the proceedure.

Take a look at Sriphat, Chiang Mai, the university hospital. Cataract surgery there starts at 35k per eye.

Was quoted 47,000 per eye last week, by Sripat.  Quoted 70,000 per eye at BANGKOK hospital, CNX.

  9. Hi Guys,

Just need some clarification thats all. I have a non-imm O multi entry Marriage visa that has coming up to its 90 day renewal. My query is can I do a border run, say to Mai Sai and go across the bridge into Myanmar and back again, collecting another 90 days permission to stay, or would I have to fly out of/into Thailand to collect the 90 day permission to stay?  It has been many years since I have done the land based crossing and as such don't know what the laws are there at the moment.

    Thanks.

    YOLO, as the kids say.

Try the sister restaurant to Steak of the day in Mea Rim, former 4 seasons chef. Usually has Phuket lobster flown up for the festive period.

  11. Hi Megapix, I have had circa 800k in for the last 4 months. Will let you know tomorrow when I get passport back as to the situation. Its the first I am hearing about a 6 month statement with 400k min in it. I gather that Savannakhet now inisists on the 400k regime, am I correct in Assuming that they insist on 2 months before and 1 month after issue ?

On another note, the visa application site is now on Tu Xurang rd, around the back of the Consulate.

We stayed at the Sila Living Hotel, as it is litterally 5 minutes walk around the corner from the Consulate, It also has several good brewery bars close by in one direction, and in the other direction a Jumbo seafood and a Hokkaido sushi restaurant as well.

    Hope this helps.

  12. Just in HCMC this morning for a multi-entry non-imm O based on marriage. The lady behind the counter told me that she wanted all the pages of my bank passbook copied, rather that the pages showing the last 6 months only. Also on the visa application form,( which does still state multiple entry on the upper right hand corner), states that the photo to be attached by 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm, while on the web site it states 4cm x 6cm. The last one is the correct size to use.

    Hope this helps.

  13. Thanks to all who replied, its much appreciated. I used Travex travel on the North side of the moat. Got everything sorted very quickly.  Don't know how many travel agents are left in CNX, a lot less since the internet became so readily available, along with the downturn during the COVID years. ust glad this one is still there.

Once again thanks to all who helped.
