Looking at going via this route, EVA offering best deals, so wondered whether any one has gone this route recently. I will be travelling with wife and step daughter, both Thai passport holders. Am I correct in thinking that as they will not be leaving the concourse, only 1 hr 40 mins between flights then they will not require a Dutch visa?
Any help in thsi regards would be appreciated.
Cheers

Has anyone tried the new place La Tavernetta, over at the Kantury hills off Nimmenhiemen yet, and if so any feedback?

Not cheap but absolutely the best Italian restaurant is Casa Antonio.
Where is Casa Antonio?
I always thought that this was owned by the same people that run Giorgio's?

We purchased our French Bulldog puppy from the owners of the wine gallery shop. Their French bulldog had whelped a few weeks prior to me coming into their shop for wine, and I got talking to them about her. They then showed me the pups and offered one to sell me one when they were old enough to be parted from their mother. I think I paid 14,000 baht for her.

Would be interesting to hear some theories on why Thai people don't rush to get involved in accidents etc.
Lack of morals? But probably not, 'cos that's applying my logic, thinking, standards, so probably barking up the wrong tree
I was told by the wife to keep going after seeing an accident, a young bike rider ran into a tree on the side of the moat, she said that if we stopped and helped that we would be liable to pay for his ambulance if we called one for him, also medical bills. So that may be a reason why Thai's don't stop to help. Maybe they could be sued if anything went wrong after trying to help an injured person?
(I did stop and Taepai gate and told a policeman there was an accident back up the road, he just told me to get back in the car and move off).
Your wife has an odd attitude. I've seen Thais stop many times over the years and help people who have been in accidents. One particular one comes to mind many years ago in Phuket. Many people stopped to help the victims who were seriously injured. One guy even ripped his shirt off to use as a compress for one of the victims head. I've seen them stop many times here in Chiang Mai. I think they are very good about helping others. Not all of course, but most.
In reply to you post, We were one of many cars and motorbikes that passed as this accident happened, and no one, be they foreigner or Thai stopped. The only person that did stop was myself, a little further down the road, when trying to get the policeman to call an ambulence for the guy.

Great attitude that of your wife.
If ever I see someone smashed up on the side of the road possibly dying, I must remember not to get carried way and not stop to assist him/her, but rather just turn a blind eye and continue on with my journey just in case I may get lumbered with any ambulance or medical fees.
After reading your post and that of the conspiracy man, I really feel like I want to vomit. Pray be that it`s never one of my or one of your family members, a close friend, you, your wife or myself lying there in the dirt somewhere desperately in need of help and how quickly the help arrives could mean life or death. Now I really am thinking that it was highly possible that the American guy’s tragic accident was witnessed and people just ignored the situation, could be Thais or farangs, exactly the same as when that girl was being raped and murdered and nobody wanted to know.
What else is there to say? Because this just about sums it all up. Outrageous.
As for the conspiricy man, let me tell you that I have contacts in the police force and you are completely wrong. Trust me on this one.
I'll have to remember your lovely warming words the next time I stop on a dual carriage way and pull an unconsious woman out of her car, just before it went up in flames. (I did this several years ago in the west of Ireland on the main by-pass out from Castlebar). Then again you wouldn't know anything about that would you, but boy you're sure quick to judge aren't you?. Hopefully you'll do your bit one day, when you stop to try to help someone and things don't go quite right for you, you may make a mistake. Next thing you know their family is sueing you, blaming you for what has happened, good luck with that !!!
You have to remember " we're not in Kansas any more Toto" so when in Rome do as the Romans do. As for my wife, leave her out of it. Its her country and she was doing what the greater majority of Thai's would do, leave well enough alone.
If you did manage to read my entire post before you got full of rightous indignation, you'll see that I stopped and informed the police, who basically politely told me to bugger off. If he cannot be bothered about the problem then why should I be, after all he's getting paid to sort these problems out.?
P.S. Do you often get nose bleeds, looking down on everyone from such a great height?

We have the discount card and we get 50% off so we tend to go to the Le Meridian buffet quite a bit. I've been there at least 50 times in the last 2 years. I've never been bitten by a mosquito or had a raw leg of lamb. It's not the best buffet in the world but I find it superior to the Holiday Inn. Generally if I want cheap I go to Grandview, if I want middle of the road I go to Le Meridian, and if I want top quality I go to the Mandarin Oriental. It's a miracle I don't weigh 300 lbs.
I usually sit over on the bench seats on the left hand side as you walk in, and have always been bitten by the mozzies that hide under the seat.

Its the mosquito's that put me off the place. The restaurant upstairs, La Favola, does not have this problem, but the one downstairs is inundated with them, or it was last time I was in there.

Stopped going there after they changed the menu, taking off the dishes I liked, The rissotto and the grilled chicken.
Usually had to walk into the AC restaurant and order the pastries before even looking at the menu, as there was not a great deal of choice left by the end of the meal later on that evening.

F.Y.I. If it was 1-13 to 0-19 then the 1-13 team lost, as the points total was 16 to 19

If you know anyone that has True vision system you should be able to watch it live on Setanta Sports, chnl 120 (approx.). If you do not get to see it live tonight then it will be replayed tomorrow morning about 0900 on the same channel. I watched the Mayo stick it to the Dubs last week.
Good luck.

Aye, wee Archie Gemmel played for both Derby County FC and Notts Florist, or is that the first Scottish team to win the European cup?
I've started buying records again a few years ago, after selling up years earlier. Though my records are still in europe, and I usually have them sent to a friends house, who holds them until I get back. I had to do this after losing a copy of Love runs out, Willie Hutch. A rather expensive loss.
Yes also a member on soul-source, quite the font of N.soul orientated knowledge. Also good the read some of the articles in Yesterdays forum.
For further information about the soul week events in Pattaya, just google siamsoulagogo and you will get a run down of the DJ's and the programme.

mayebe start a wee club up hereOh how I wish... (for an affirmative reply!).
.i will contact the pattaya northern soul club to see how they got their club up and running
need to hear Eddie parker blaring oot a decent set o speakers
speak with Joolz from Bamboo Bar in San Sai, he has an excellent collection of Northern Soul. Joolz also used to own The What Bar in town until a few years ago.
Whereabouts is the Bamboo bar in Sansai, as I live up that way and will pop in and have a chat. By your moniker you're either a DCFC or Florist fan, and if so are you from that part of the country and if so did you go to the Brit club down by the river on a Friday night?
Does anyone still collect the original records?

I think the Pattaya "do" is scheduled to last for a long week-end. There are more details on t'internet if you care to trawl for them. Possibly search Northern soul in the Pattaya forum and you may get a hit regarding it.
I hope to go down possibly for the oldies session. Don't know if Keb Darge is coming in but his partner in crime Guy is supposed to be up for it.
Wouldn't you just know it, the Australian national is on the same week-end!!! The two soul nights in the Southern Hemisphere and they have been scheduled for the same week-end. You could write the script for it could you?
What clubs did you used to go to? I caught the end of the Torch, Va Va's, Samantha's, Wigan etc.
Kind regards
Mac

I don't know about glass engravers here in CM, there did use to be a place in airport plaza that used to laser copy onto metal. They use a photograph and the machine would engrave it onto metal mugs, zippo lighters etc. I think they were on the 3rd floor over towards the front entrance.

Can anyone reccommend a personnel trainer they have employed that works in/around Chiang Mai?
Thanks in anticipation

I had my birthday party/lunch at River Market about 1 month ago. Originally had said for 10 guests, but soon had to bump it up to 18. Popped in to make arrangements and fortunately David was there, so we had a quick chat about arrangements, and took a menu home to decide what to eat. Went back some 3-4 days before the luncheon, with the list of dishes we would require.
When I arrived on the day, everything was ready, my guests, more Thai than westerners, sat down had drinks and after a short while the food was served. Everything went very well, all agreed the food was very good, as was the service. David and Micheal both took very good care of us while they were there, making sure everything ran smoothly.
The total cost for 18 very well fed people, inclusive of cake, wine etc. came to some 14,000 baht, Which I thought was very good value as everyone enjoyed the afternoon. (plus we didn't have to cook, do the dishes or the cleaning up as we would have had to do if we held the party at home).
If you do want a goup thing there then would suggest the following:-
go in and talk to David or Michael, let them know exactly what you want and when you want it.
Take home a menu, decide what dishes you want to order.
Take home wine list too and decide what wines you want to order if any, or make arrangements to supply your own.
Let the restaurant know what you want some 4-5 days in advance so they can get everything ready for you and your party.
Sit back and enjoy.
I was very sorry to read about the problems poster #85 had. I always felt that David would go out of his way to help customers.
I am no way associated with David, Micheal or their restaurants, just wanted to let people know that they do a great job of catering for parties.

There used to be a humidor of Cuban cigars for sale in the Patisserie/cafe at the Mandarin Oriental.

I have been to this restaurant on several occasions, and enjoyed the food there. Went past a few weeks ago as wanted to dine there, but the place was shut up, so ended back at Marco's. Sorry to hear about the problems there.
What, the Clamtown Tavern? I'm surprised you've even heard of it!
And you must be the past master of gay wit and raedy repartee then!!!!

Just to add my experience. I have applied for 3 visa's for my girlfriend, now wife, to go to Ireland. I had been with my girlfriend for 5 years before going over to Ireland the first time, and living in Thailand for 4 years. Our first visa was refused, on what appeared to be every point. We did appeal to Dublin, adding more paperwork, photo's that were date stamped, copies of bank books showing monies transferred from my internet account at Bank of Ireland into Bank of Bangkok accounts. Visa was given. Only 1 month single entry. Second visa, we were more savvy about what they wanted so took lots of paperwork etc down with us, the girls behind the counter sifted through everything. Got visa no problem. Third visa application was earlier this year and the first time we had returned as man and wife, have been married for over 2 years by now. Still have to produce the same paperwork as we did before we were married but this time with copies of wedding cert and its translation. I also had to write a letter of invitation to my wife in the consulate itself inviting her to come over to Ireland. I must be one of the few men in the world that has to write a letter to my wife asking her to come on holiday with me, when shes stood next to me.
There must be a better way of doing this, what if one of my parents dies, how quick could a visa be issued for my wife, or would I have to go over there on my own.
I enjoy my home in Ireland as does my wife, but this continual jumping through hoops really takes the edge off it.
Ihope this does not put you off too much. One poster says it possibly gets easier if you were married, well in my experience it doesn't, it just gets cheaper, 500 baht admin fees is all it costs now.
Good luck.
When Will The Chiang Mai Building Bubble Burst?

One thing I don't think anyone has mentioned yet, is that Chiang Mai is on a geological fault line. Would you like to be in a condo when the floors starts shaking?
