  1. AirportShopping Plaza…..As far as Malls go, its OK. As far as parking go’s just stoptrying to get a spot by the front door and there plenty of room.

I think youjust had a bad day! :)

I went there on Thursday and was inside the covered parking at 12:10, and all parking was taken up, with the exception of the V.I.P. parking areas, where they now charge 30 baht for 30 minutes parking. How long before it is all V.I.P. parking.

Will they drop the charge once the new shopping Malls come on line??

  2. Looks like no one has been to the Mandarin Oriental for their Sunday Brunch.

    Kinda answers the OPs question.

Went to Mandarin Oriental last Sunday 24th July, but to Fujian for the Dim Sum. The car park was almost full at 12:30. I asked the parking attendant what was going on, he said people were there for the Brunch in the Akalingo restaurant. So if you are going to go, then go early, as it looks to be very busy.

OP:- Please let us know you opinion of it if you do go.

  3. I have seen Ceylon(Sri Lankan) tea in both Rimping and Tops, cannot remember

the brand but was definitely from Sri Lanka.

Word of caution bringing in tea through customs ,my daughter was very lucky

that they let her through with my supply of Yorkshire tea ,they found something

else they could levy tax on ,but said next time it would be confiscated !!

Twinnings is expensive,Liptons not strong enough ,even if you left in cup

all day,and the brand manufactured in Chiang Mai,not good enough.

    kind regards Worgeordie

Blimey, I usually carry more tea back with me than the "Clippers" used to carry going the other way. Never been stopped once. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I do think though that places like Rimping supermkts are taking the piss, the Baht has appreciated some 20% over the last 5 years against most major currencies, but have the prices of goods stayed the same or similar, no have they bu**ery! These supermkt chains just keep on increasing the prices.

  4. I don't know if they do a Sunday brunch, I know that on a Sunday the Fujian restaurant does have a " Dim sum" fixed price buffet for 700 baht++, which is a little expensive by CM standards, but we like it so we keep going whenever I'm back in CM. Its worth a splurge if its a special occasion.

  5. Oh dear! I m too old and laid back now to get into fierce arguments about Football! We all love our respective teams, be it Forest or Derby, but the main thing is we support our LOCAL team, even from Thailand, and havent jumped onto the Man U/ Chelsea etc bandwagon, which tragically, too many have. How on earth can you support Man U if you come from, say Newcastle or London? ( Just examples by the way, not an attack on any City). It grieves me to walk around somewhere like Birmingham and see so many kids wearing Man U shirts instead of Villa, Bham City, West Brom etc.

Good luck for next season, I can say that, just as long as we finish above you!!

My sentiments exactly PP, I have always had more respect for fans that support their home teams, rather than jump on the "glory hunter" band wagon.

Don't get me wrong I'd rib you if I saw you in a bar with a Forest shirt on, but then again I'd possibly buy you a beer as well.

As with yourself, I hope you have more ups than downs this season.

    Kind regards

    Mickmac

  6. Come on you Rams!!!!!

OK. Now lets get down to it! Worst record in the history of the Premiership. 11 points in a whole season. Last season Forest easily did the double including 5 goals at the City Ground. Still, youve got the best non league manager going in non league Nigel!! Cant wait for next season. Forest up, Direby down!!

Blah, blah, blah, You'll be going on about your 2 european cup wins next!!!!!!!!!!!!

For all our faults, and there are a few, we have still sold over 18,000 season tickets so far this close season, own our own ground, except for the 10 million mortgage, also own top class training ground and facilities and after 3 years of austerity where the manager has had to slash the wage bill and sell off the best players without adequate replacements coming in, the books are balanced and we have a steady hand behind the wheel. Although you refer to him as "NLN", any one with bit of common sense can see the restraints that he has had to work under.

Now compare this to your high flying team, a team that has managed to make the play-offs for the last 2 seasons under the poison Dwarf and still cannot reach the promised land, who have sold a paltry 11,000 season tickets.

Hope that your main backer Mr. Doughty doesn't pull the plug or your team really will be in the crapper, big time. How much has he lent the club so far, romoured around the 60 million mark, how true that figure is I don't know? He even had to put 3.4 million into the kitty last season to shore your club up!!!! You don't have the luxury of owning your own ground, the council do. Your thoughts of a new ground went down the crapper with Englands world cup bid. Mind you a large 50,000 seater stadium would be awful to play in when there its 3/4 empty.

So great you've ended up above us twice in the last 10 years, hooray. Have a look at the underlying state of each club, and see who is closer to the abyss!!

As to next season: now Clough has some money to spend, after clearing out the high earners, we may see the start of a decent team begin to appear, we will have to wait and see. As for Florist Up Derby down, I doubt it, I think we'll still both be in this league this time next year.

    UTR.

  7. If you were after a Concept II rowing machine, I would do what JackR recommends and email Concept in the USA. I believe there is no registered supplier in Thailand, and as such can sell you one direct. The guys in the office will get back to you with the prices, also the different delivery options and prices.

I went down this route a few years back and is much cheaper than buying one from BKK.

Hope all works out for you.

    Mickmac

P.S. You will have to have the tax in cash to pay the delivery guy, who then forwards it to the relevant tax authority.

  8. Flew to BKK from DUBAI on 380 in business class. I did not like how there was a cubby hole for your feet in under the seat in front of you when you are laid out flat trying to get some sleep. I found this a bit too restricting. I did however like that I could walk to the bar at the back of the plane to get someting to help me sleep!!

Though I will not avoid going on the 380 in future, I will not go out of my way to fly in one again.

  9. I would take down a couple of passport size photo's, also a couple of copies of your passport showing entry date and also the page with your details on. Don't worry if you do not have them, there is a young lady at the cafe area to the rear of the imm. office that will take your photo etc.

The cost of the cert itself is 500 Baht.If you are driving down in a car you might only be able to park by the next building over from the immigration office. Take a book/magazine to read while you wait the 10-15 minutes it usually takes to process everything,(dependent on the number of people there).

    Hope this helps.

  10. A few people I know fell for that line quite a while ago, but were very disappointed when they actually visited Pizza-n-Pasta. I would put it about on par with Paradise Pizza which is in the "OK for Thailand" category.

The Pizza Rusica shop smelled great, but was not much better than Paradise Pizza either.

I must agree with you UG, regarding Pizza-n-Pasta. I thought the tomato topping tasted as if it had just come out of the tomato paste concentrate can and spread on the bread base directly from there.

I do enjoy the Dukes pizza, but only in the restaurant its self, as usually too soggy by the time it gets home. I also like the Pizza at Gorgio's just beyond Pantip Plaza on Chang klan, thin and crispy base.

  11. Haha... Venturalaw had a good night of sleep!

Going off the salad subject for the moment, I went to the new Vietnamese place in Meechok the other day. Found the food was good, but felt that there was more choice and equally as good quality to be found at the Vietnamese restaurant down past Kellys. Before anyone asks, I have no connection to either restaurant, just offering my opinion.

  12. I've seen both and test drove the Mazda 2 last week. Nice car, absolutely would choose Mazda over Ford for Quality, Mazda 2 also has a varity of body kits and other features you can add. Also check out Honda Jazz for more space and versatility. There really is an amazing amount of space in the Jazz and beats all cars in this class hands down, and is probably equal to most cars in the next bigger class. Not to mention the Jazz's great ride quailty and interior. Really, i would test drive those 3 then choose.

If you interested in space, then have a quick look at the Nissan Tiida, as the back seats move back as well, so if you don't have too much luggage then it is quite comfortable even with the drivers seat fully back.

  13. Heart goes out to the family. Thailand is a great place but if anything goes pear shaped they like to keep it in house, they are paid to put there head in the sand and wait til it goes away. Hopefully the intended website will grow too allow other 'cover ups' to be exposed and may entice witnesses to certain events to post anonymously. You will never shame the perpetrators here they are just too thick skinned and live in a bubble where nobody is allowed to question their actions.

Good luck, hope you are successful but like the previous poster said dont do it from inside Thailand, life is cheap as tradgically your daughter found out. Just dont be too successful because then your site will get blocked from its main contributors... farangs here in Thailand. Please send us a link when its online

    just checked www.thaicoverups.com is available

All who live in Thailand know corruption and coverups are the norm. I feel for the victims and their families. You'll never clean this apple up as it is rotten to the core. I believe the body count at the Downtown hotel is seven. Correct me if I'm wrong. One couple died of simultaneous heart attacks. Why just farangs?

I thought that there was one Thai national, a tour guide, please correct me if I am wrong.

  14. I've been looking at both (and other small cars) and in my view the Fiesta has the better interior and looks less 'girly' than the Mazda .... but in the end I reckon a Honda Jazz is the better option if you want a 5 door. It's slightly bigger and the resale prices seem to be better.

    Hi TP,

Hope all is well with you, hopefully will catch up one day soon. Familyonthemove makes a good point re: resale values, as I feel that Ford will depreciate a lot more than the Honda over the same time period. What about the Nissan Tiilda, they are quite roomy and up to 1.8 engine as well?

    Regards

    Mickmac

PS. Look at comments on Fiesta Sport 1.6 further down this forum, might be of interest.

  15. Hi TP,

Long time no chat, hope all is well with you. I test drove a Fiesta 1.6 the other day, unfortunately it was automatic, would have preferred a manual but you can't always get what you want. I think the 1.6 comes with leather seats, and is a little bit pricier that the Mazda 2, badged as the Fiesta 2. Wasn't the fiesta 1.6 known as the XR2 a couple of decades ago? Am also looking at the Honda civic 1.8 manual and will test drive that before making a decision. Hope all goes well for you.

    Regards

    Mickmac

  16. Call MAzda Thailand i just bought Mazda 2

Not back in thailand till 19th March, just wondered whether any one had heard about prices. Checked their website but no prices on there other than for the models already for sale.

Comms on board the ship not too good at the moment, working offshore east AFrica, so difficult to phone. Any other suggestions MotR?????

  17. Thanks !

If you are on the north side of the city, look at Baan Tanawan and the pool/gym there. They have a dedicated toddlers pool as well. They will also sort your children out for lessons as well.

Directions:- head out the Maejo rd, just past Roum Chop market there is a row of shops, at the end of this row turn left. You then have to halt at the barrier and tell the guard where you are going. When he lets you in just keep going straight ahead some 500m and its just on on the left hand side of the road.

    Hope this helps.

  18. Hello,

I am living in Chiang Mai and I would like to get a French Bulldog. Would it be possible to see pictures of the puppies?

    Thanks

    Sébastien

    Sebastien,

I don't know if you have been to a shop called "Wine Gallery", the Lady owner of the shop breeds Frenchies. I know this as I bought one off her a few years ago. I went in for some bottles of wine and came out with the wine and the receipt of 7000 baht for a Puppy, had to go back when she was old enough to leave the litter. I have not been in for a while, but might be worth popping along to see if she is still breeding them, if not can pick up a good bottle of wine instead.

    Hope this helps.

Our French B/d loves motorised transport, all she has to do is hear the car keys and shes waiting at the door of the car before you can get there. She has now started to take rides on the motorbike as well. Which can be a bit hazardous as she wants to fight every other dog she see's.

    Anyway good luck

    Mickmac

  19. Since my first visit to Thailand, back in 1987, I've liked the Thai food better from the little back soi stalls/restaurants all around than from the hi-so 5-star hotel type.Seems to have more flavor coming from a black, crusty seasoned wok. I love Thai food, spicey and all, but when I get a craving for a good steak with baked potato and veggies then I visit Banrai Steak House next to the golf course adjacent to Airport Plaza. They also serve Thai food. Prices are good too.

I would not hesitate to recommend the Wanlamun restaurant, Chiang Moi Rd. soi 2. For both quality of the food and price.

If you have not been there before, make the effort its worth it.

A tip:- when entering the air conditioned room the pastry counter is there on your left, make your choice on entering, tell the waitress to regard them as sold. I say this as other diners who have finished their meal have a habit of buying up several of the cakes, sometimes there are none left by the time it comes around to the sweet course of your meal.
