Food
in Chiang Mai
While we're on the subject does anyone know a good place for pizza or a burger???
Pizza Paradise on Ratvithi Rd do amazing pizzas, but you have to buy them freshly made and they cost around 600bht for a 16'' by the time you add some extra toppings.
I think you have responded to sarcasm!
I think perhaps more a wise-ass comment from a wise-ass poster but perhaps "finy" is new and isn't in the know about our local TV forum's members obsession with posting about pizza and burgers so I give him a pass and will show that I appreciate his suggestion by trying it out.
As I wind up my month long vacation on Koh Samui I must say that the food offerings, besides the obvious excellent seafood, are much better than the much larger Chiang Mai. Italian, a Swiss-run steak house, Muslim Maylay inspired road side stands etc etc. But oh the seafood, fresh from the 4 am market, the your feet in the sand joints and just this morning we got from the ocean in front of our rental a bounty of sea urchins, sea cucumbers, sea slugs, sea snails, clams and crabs that will make one delicious, or at least interesting, lunch.
Have you tried " The Larder" there in Koh Samui yet, just up from Chaweng? Worth it just for the Mojito's alone!

In reply to post #44, I was informed several years ago that the feed used to change the colour of farmed Salmon's flesh to pink was carcinogenic!!
On another note, M and S have discounted quite a lot of products, several of the Teas, etc. Looks as if lots of the produce is getting to its sell by date.
Though if you like their groceries and don't mind their prices than its worth a visit.
Are you in Chiang Mai? I only had a very quick look around M&S in Central Festival when it first opened and concluded it wasn't big enough for a food hall. Was I looking in the wrong place? Or the wrong mall?
Correct in what you say, not big enough for a Food hall, but there is a provisions "room" right down at the back and on the left, just past the ladies lingerie!!

The INIS information sheet linked to above is not worded very well; but as far as I can make out people covered by this waiver programme can enter, leave, re-enter the Republic as often as they wish; but cannot spend more than 90 days in total out of 180 days in the Republic.
The British embassy have never notarized foreign marriage certificates, so that you haven't had it done wont be a problem.
However, most Schengen countries do require you to provide a translation of your marriage certificate (English will do) which has been notarised by the Thai MFA.
Thanks for the prompt reply 7 by 7, will have to try to get into the MFA to get translation notarized on Thursday afternoon, as have appointment on Friday morning.

Hi 7 by 7,
A quick question I hope you can shed some light on. My wife, Thai national, has a 5 yr, multiple entry, 180 day visitor visa for the UK, and we will be using this to go into the Irish republic. Do you know whether we will be able to come and go in the Irish republic as often as we want, (as would like to pop over to France, Spain, Uk etc. while we are there. When on the way back after a stay in France will we have to travel back to Ireland through the UK as well.
We intend to try for a Schengen visa from the French embassy, we have most the paperwork intact from earlier UK visa submission, the only thing that might be a stumbling block is that the wedding hasn't been notarized at the British embassy. We've been married 5 years and have the license and translation. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Kind regards

Would taking the "Bruce Protocol" not be sufficient, proving there is no heart problems while checking under stress?

Got to agree with the OP, the Tiramisu I ordered last night was very poor to say the least. I was in there last week at lunch time and had a Pizza the hot medi one @250 baht. Unfortunately I must have been the first person to order a pizza that day, as the underneath of the pizza was quite undercooked. I put this down to being the first order etc. So decided to go again last night, ordered the same pizza and this time it was cooked much better underneath. I too had the Wine, Mont gras cab/sauv. 500ml. The bill was some 1500 Baht, for 1 soup, 1 fish and veggies, one pizza, one Tiramisu, and one coffee, with 3 soda and fruit juice along with 500 ml carafe of wine. Will go back, but only if Mamma Mia is closed, their beer alone is 50 baht a bottle cheaper!
Regular disclaimer:- I have no interest etc.................................

You could always pop into El Patio on 11 for some tapas and wine.

Thanks, but have only seen ironing and curtain cleaning machines there. I need something a bit more powerful and heavy duty. Will check again, though.
I may be giving a bum steer here, and if so I apologise, I have purchased one of the high pressure water cleaners, was that what you wanted?

Have a look in Global House just off Hang Dong road, over towards the electrical department. Check out Home pro as well.

Thanks for that Sly

Has anyone applied for a Schengen visa from the French consulate in Chiang Mai? If so how did they find the process, did they eventually have to go to BKK etc? The visa is for my wife, a Thai national, we will want to visit for a couple of weeks whilst we are in UK/Ireland during the summer.
Any helpful information would be gratefully received.

In airport plaza there is a high end jewelry shop on 3rd or 4th floor close to the entrance of Robinsons, on the left hand side as you look at Robinsons from inside the Mall. I have noticed several second Rolex watches for sale in there.
Hope this helps.

If you do stay in the transit hotel what are you going to do about your bags? You may be able to book them through if you are on a normal airline, but if you are coming in on a budget airline you could have problems.

So when you stop, and do as much as you can to help the person, phone for Ambulance and get them to hospital, what will you do then, when you get handed the Bill for being the good Samaritan?

Have you thought about the River Market? Probably need to book it though, being near the River and all.
I had a birthday party there a short while ago, 18 guests, and they did a great job. I popped in a few days earlier and organised the various dishes and the quantity required, wine etc. and Dave and his staff sorted the rest out. We had a great afternoon.

Qatar Airlines has just put up a 2 seats for price of 1 in business class on several international routes, BKK-> LHR and BKK->CDG to name but two. The travel has to be before the end of March 2014, and the tickets have to be used together.
Hope this helps.

That could be an example for Thailand when they prosecute murder cases ... that's what you get if you kill someone .... no possibility to flee abroad , to hide or to be bailed.
Ironic what you are writing look at "Mick the poms" case. But I agree this case was handled ok, unfortunately he will be out in 10 with the same issues he's having now.

Hi llp,
I am not a big oyster fan, just noticed it in passing. Why not pop in there and have a look for yourself. You may be able to come to a deal with the manager there, I don't know.
Good luck.

Which stores in Chiang Mai have oysters?
Try Rimping Supermarket at The Promenade shopping centre, they have a dedicated Oyster and wine bar there.
but as one poster mentioned, a bottle of wine and oysters for 2 will set you back 7500 baht.
I'm just replying to the guys question, he didn't ask about cost's, just availability. The price could be even bigger dependent on the wine purchased. I think the cost of the oysters are 112 baht each, so 2 doz, ( a doz each) will set you back 2688 baht, so that means the poster you mentioned was spending something like 4800 baht on his wine selection. If you care to look there are some good wines available in store for a lot less than that, which will reduce the bill somewhat.
Hope this helps.

OP the tax on wine is somewhere in the region of 400->450%, due in no small part to the lobbying by the beer companies and distilleries in Thailand, so that they don't lose their market share.

The only place I have seen one is in Siam Electrical store, next to the Chinese Embassy on the south side of the moat. ( I think CanMan was meaning he would be prepared to wash the dishes for you, just as a little bit of levity).
Cheers

Good for her and her family.
The bloke is daft as a brush.
I have worked for him, he's a great person to work for. I wish them both all the best.

Can the Bubonic Plague not be treated by anti-Biotics nowadays?
Is it me or does the young man in the photo on Post #1 have frost bite rather than the plague?
