The one I know about is drinking all day / all night long.
I was just there for a month and you're right, most cheap Charlie bars have a good crowd by 2pm

I do find it a bit amusing how readers get this "picture" in their head about another poster. I don't give a stuff about folk knowing who I really am, have posted many pics over the years.
So for Mr.McFishy here is my clock, my hoooose with trusty stead and one of me (heading for 70 and Mrs.Trans heading for 50) taken two days ago....
PS..Yes I am holding a fag behind my back....[emoji23]
Now your just showing off. Was hoping to see a transam in the driveway. Oh well...

Why is age relevant....?
Sounds like you live in the sticks and that would drive me nuts. You go to buy a kilo of tomatoes, ask the price and there is a pause while she tries to work out how much extra to charge.
Im in the city thankfully and do all my shopping in supermarkets where it's labelled

They write receipts, LOL it's a scam. and I know of quite a few who got off paying 0 baht. By the way that area is frequented by many many more Thais than Westerners, and I have never ever seen one being fined, and they do litter....
My home turf LOL
Well you can see the Koreans sitting at a table under the foot bridge looking sheepish whilst the officer is writing from a very thick receipt book seen it a hundred times. But you have mates who get booked all the time? I never had one in ten years so you hang with pigs, guess what you are lmao!
Like I said don't be pig on my turf, I'm glad you and your mates got busted and oh yeah you paid all right around 2k or did you bitch slap the officer bahahaa

I think we already established that I don't litter, but I guess you have a little trouble reading. Or are so self centered that you didn't even bother reading... As to harsh fines, you have a lot to learn about the area that much is certain. Hint, enforcement is geared to tourists and no receipts are offered.
Because it's a tourist strip! And yes they write receipts I walk past it a thousand times in 10 years.
It's not rocket science don't litter and you won't be fined. Westerners treat my home turf like it's lawless . Respect the country you visit anywhere you go and you won't get beaten to a pulp or jailed or shock horror fined for dumping your garbage over your shoulder.. Not rocket science is it?

yes you may smile, normal people are offended by the rip off practice. Funny how you are so against street vendors, but have no problem with people pulling this scam.
But what else can be expected from someone who actually believes the Junta is fighting corruption !
Must not be in Thailand very long, you have a lot to learn, so much is clear.
Stop being a pig and don't litter! There isn't a country worth living in on the planet that doesn't have harsh fines for pigs like yourself. You are happy seeing sukhumvit covered in garbage and defend litter bugs, you're a disgrace!! Ughhh

Who says I have ever been fined ? I haven't. That being said, if you impose fines on people for littering, one should provide a few waste bins here or there. Are you for real ?
I suppose they aren't there to ensure those motorbikes can use the pavement without fear of hitting them..
Don't litter! No excuses. Hang onto your empty beer can until the next 711 and dump it there they are every where, it's not rocket science. Smokers flicking cigarette butts onto the footpath deserve what they get as well, mostly Arabs, Koreans and some westerners .. I always smile when they rip up 2k lol

Yeah and that leaves more room for the litter police handing out fines, oh progress !
Errrmm are you for real? Don't be a litterbug!! Educated thais don't throw litter, show some class!

Hey, guess what? That's exactly what is happening. And there doesn't seem to be much of a people's movement opposing it. Funny, that. Guess Thais will do what people have been doing for millenia: adapt. And enjoy a slightly less stressful environment, especially for their kids.
I don't think he realises that it's already done. Many Farang can be a lot slower than Thais
The farang in denial can always blow an easy 700baht and go to Chang mai via train for a quick fix of nightmare congestion all the way down the main drag of street stalls but allow a good 45 mins of crawling [emoji23]

Why would would a sane person do this
"But what is most shocking are the studies that suggest how many cigarettes’ worth the smoker is inhaling in an hour session on the hookah pipe. I always felt it might be the equivalent of having two or three cigarettes.
Not a bit of it. Some studies suggest that an hour on shisha is like having 100, even 200 cigarettes. That “cultured” hour I used to spend could have been like the full time smoking of cigarettes for three days.
And looking back that is exactly what smoking shisha did to me. It re-addicted me to nicotine and cigarettes in double quick time, almost before I realized what was happening.
In this regard the junta’s no shisha policy might be doing many people a favor."

Oh, you are talking about a 400 m stretch of road in Bangkok. I thought we were talking about a Bangkok wide issue.
I have not walked between the two stations in the evening for a number of years. I do remember walking through there and finding it a nightmare getting through when it was all blocked up, and generally i like street stalls, food carts etc. I enjoy having them, it is part of BKK life for me.
I agree with you about wider Bangkok, especially the little old ladies selling chicken and rice or fruit. As long as they are not interfering with foot traffic then leave them be. But that nightmare stretch down Nana way is a whole different scenario

I'm talking about lower sukhumvit between asoke and Nana where there was extreme congestion . Your talking about a few food carts in a lower tourist area
Still you should have known About the curfew unless you never been to that area before 7
Sent from my SC-01D using Tapatalk -
What 7pm curfew? Street vendors are out all day.
Your obviously don't live near sukhumvit in Bangkok. The curfew had been active for about a year. I live right in the middle of it

Dont gloat too much because at the first opportunity all the street vendors
will be back same as before 100% guaranteed...
Street vending is a way of life in Thailand and that will never change....
I think you're wrong. I remember when Bangkok had elephants roaming the streets, they were banned never to return and everyone cried for the mahouts, they will be back they cried!
Then they had metal poles inserted at each Street corner along lower sukhumvit to stop the maddening huge and slow food carts from taking up the whole foot path but that got rid of them
Then they introduced a 7pm curfew for Street vendors and farang said that won't last but strict policing saw to it that it did and now they are all banned and still farang cry. It won't last but it will!
Thais have accepted it while farang remain in denial. How weird is that? [emoji1]

It was rumoured the 911 terrorists dined there and discussed the attack

This seemed trollish from the beginning, and perception was right (I am one of few that live both in Bangkok and Jomtien).
" Very few who have made the transition from one to the other and been remotely happy about it. Except people in Pattaya who have moved to Bangkok, of course." Oh bloody well "of course" is provided as some sort of evidence and/or reasoning skills. Show us your data methods.
The remarks about airport & Bangkokians having "nice car waiting for them in parking lot" vs taking a taxi is more economics than smarts. If the OP had brains he might do what I do: take the train into Bangkok. It's faster, safer, cheaper for openers. If going to Pattaya take the bus to Jomtien: faster cheaper and safer again.
I don't want to use the word "stupid" so suppose "thick" is adequate.
I live in both as well and fully agree with your post

There are some truth hidden in the article. We live in Bangkok and are definately not Hi So's. but I would still not venture out in shorts.....
I see farang walking around in jeans and long sleeve shirts boiling up a lather of sweat

Just need to restrict the traffic getting into the city centre in the first place.
In any case, it's unfair to blame the street vendors for what is a city planning failure.
Vendors were squatting on the side walk illegally. Who else you going to blame?
In any case it's a pointless conversation. They have gone and the sidewalks have effectively trippled in size and it's a huge win for locals both Thai and farang, thank you Prayut!
