  1. there is also a hairdresser/beauty salon supplier very near the bophut traffic lights. opposite the family mart, 2 story bldg. have heard that they always have clippers, hair trimmers etc.
I think they might have gone from there Joe.
ah ok sorry, had no idea. they were there for a couple of years anyway and that's where anyone i knew who actually used clippers etc would buy them.
    Will double check.

just drove past there a couple times now, they are open again after some remodeling.

  3. No doubt it will either be located on one of Samui's crappy beaches (ie: awful sand, seaweed and rocks), or located a long way from the beach. I say this because it tends to be in Samui that the more upmarket the hotel, the worse its location - most people who book have no clue till they arrive and they aren't budgeting for repeat business. They will also no doubt charge 700 bath per hour for WiFi and a charge for a host of other things that are free in many resorts.
i have a feeling it will be located in Choeng Mon, there is a 147 rai piece of land there that has been earmarked for a 5 star hotel for a while

hasn't that already been taken by a ski slope?

  4. i've had a really good experience with kasikorn bank here on samui. mae nam branch staff are very friendly and actually helpful, in spite of the fact that i've never kept any funds there they have issued me several cards based on WP and salary. SCB on the other hand, the same branch where i've had the same account for over 5 years with direct deposit of my salary each month are the least helpful and most incompetent bank employees i've ever seen in my life, anywhere. absolutely horrible service and they won't issue a CC to foreigners without "guarantee" deposit.

  5. Maybe he was crazy cause he just found out his lady used to be a man lol
very well could be, but his erratic and violent behavior in public justified his restraint and perhaps blood tests to see what if anything he was taking, in order to effect some relief. random drug screens of residents or tourists casually walking down the street, be it for shopping dining or drinking is however a rather serious invasion of privacy.
Why is it an invasion of privacy, drugs are illegal and if you have not partaken what is the problem???

lol oh man i remember back in the days when people actually made an effort to troll. the times they are a-changin'

  7. would be nice if it was true and nice for Donsak. i might even move. nothing like not having to rush for the last ferry or sleep in the car all night. If only samui's ferry's were 24 hrs If you were to live in Donsak then everything would be cheaper as suratthano is not far away and Nakornsea Thamorat. Khanom would benefit allot. The only thing that samui has over these other places is it night life but for those who want some peace and quiet there shall be alternatives and still about to commute to and back samui

respectfully disagree with the premise and any supporting arguments.

  8. The land comprising Samui Airport is leased for a period of 30 years from 2006 leaving a period of 24 years still to run. The lease expires on 23rd November 2036. The initial lease was for a 3 year period with options to renew for a further 9 periods of 3 years each. Bangkok Airways sub leases the land from a property investment company in which BA own 25% of the shares.

this is pretty much what i understood, granted i don't know much. it was a standard sale/leaseback agreement, leaving them in control of the property yet able to deduct current expenses. i would not make a wager with anyone in regards to a new airport within any reasonable travel distance, i don't think it will happen.

  9. There are a few Tesco Expresses opening now, at least on the southern section of the ring road. Gets my vote, as I should be able to use my Tesco card. Very rarely go to 7-11 or family mart, no need to!!!!!

tesco club (point/reward) card or tesco credit card?

honestly i just don't see the need for tesco express, given the number of convenience stores and mom and pop shops. tesco may think they see a need for them hence the development but i've never shopped at one and really don't think i would ever shop at one.

  10. wow this thread is like a mini compilation of whining and complaining from all the other sub forums, and it's going on right here in the visa forum.

you've got people telling others that you can have 30 30 and 30 or a lifetime lease (lulz were had) , anti this anti that, can own this but not that.

it's like a whole cornucopia of complaints and nobody has even asked a visa question. all the mods must be at a mod only TV party.

  11. jamaica for me.

equal years here and years there, the women are equal all things considered, a jamaican menu is easily comparable to a thai menu, general location weather and atmosphere are comparable, the difference for me would be authentically warm genuine smiling people. i find the beaches in thailand to be better for sightseeing, photography, kayaking etc due to the rock formations and caves, while the long stretches of white sand beach in jamaica were much better for sunbathing, snorkeling etc because the sand and water quality was better. the music scene in jamaica is light years ahead of thailand too, from live to dj. all in all it's not enough to make me want to change, grass is always greener.

  12. public beach...check

    rambling on incoherently...check

attacking random people and police officers, completely unprovoked...check

    expectation of privacy...ah, no.

in fact he's lucky i was there to document the result of his behavior. very likely he could have been treated in kind, and then he would have no expectation of anything really, except the possibility of being brain dead.

  13. Walking in the busiest bar zone, from what i could gather....The big boys from Bangkok are here,so will be testing across the island for weeks...
Well i for one think this is a good sign, and hopefully not just a tidy up while the big boys are in town. It's the most horrible drug, it puts so many innocent people in danger if you happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Whilst I do agree that ice/yabba/crack etc. are terrible substances, I think it's 100% a case of putting on a show for the little circus monkey generals - in the wrong place. Of course in their simplistic little minds it's the farang that make the problem here but in reality the main problem lies with the Thai youth - who are nowhere near these bars. It's an easy way for the local enforcement officers to pretend to do their jobs; hell - they most likely supplied it, or facilitated the supply in the first place. Personally I take issue with this - everyone has the right to privacy and deserves to be treated with dignity - unless you are aprehended actually breaking the law. If they first test their own politicians, civil servants and police force the results would be astonishing... Test high school kids and uni students prior to graduation and see how big the problem really is. When last have you heard of a farang going beserk and running amok high on these drugs here? In seven years I have never but such incidents occur amongst Thai youths every day.

pretty obvious invasion of privacy that wouldn't fly in any developed nation, but hey TIT. doesn't matter if you partake or not, the police doing this is no better than the person taking ya ba.

just for the record, not sure if you saw a thread that i posted here a week or two ago about a 6ft+ 250lb farang whacked out on drugs going crazy and fighting with police, so they tied him to a tree with aquarium tubing and gave him an injection into his foot to calm him down, i even added a pic.

  14. Why you say Bangrak is like a ghost town ? Bangrak is very nera the airport while NE is quite far. Traditionally, the closer to the airport, the more people they will be. Or are you saying Bangrak is so run-down that the wealthier people want to stay out?

bang rak is transient by nature. people come here to go elsewhere. bang rak is then a pretty good indicator of the general state of things on the island as a whole. it isn't so much that bang rak is run down, it is what it is.

  15. Police should also investigate how he would have a .357 revolver in a resort room unless he has a permit to carry a concealed weapon. If he needs to carry he must have a lot of friend looking for him.
well the story does indicate that he's a "businessman". why he would stay in a low rent bungalow for doing business is another matter i guess but many farang can and do own firearms here so i don't see what having a gun in a resort room has to do with anything, and the comment about a lot of "friends" looking for him without knowing anything about him or his background or anything at all related to the topic is pretty ridiculous really and should be left to the day time soap operas. does anyone that actually knows anything about this particular case have an update? just read elsewhere that a german had been killed in the "south" by his thai wife, not sure if it is this same german or not.
No it's not he same story the other case happened in Chumpon, also a German expat.

    ah, ok and thanks.
