  1. i too had a good experience with the flightstats website linked above, about two weeks ago when my mom flew in. she had called to let me know the flight was slightly delayed. we still arrived at samui airport on time to pick her up anyway and the arrival board showed them as on time. i ended up googling samui flight times and found flightstats who informed me that her flight would be fifteen minutes delayed and sure enough, they arrived fifteen minutes later. should note that the normal flight time from bkk to samui is approx forty five minutes, when i say they were delayed by fifteen minutes, i am referring to the posted travel time of around one hour and five minutes.

good link, very useful if you are using the airport.

  2. truth. it doesn't matter how much patchoulli those dirty stinky hippies wear, the dog is not going to have any difficulty separating it from the contraband. it's also pretty silly to assume that those same dirty stinky hippies are importing anything more than they could consume in one full moon party.

yes dogs have a very high sent of smell.

now grab a dirty hippy and times the smell of that hippy by 50 and you have one sick puppy .)

Of course that's not the way it works. Because a dog has a much more sophisticated olfactory system does not mean it is overwhelmed by odors. A human brain is far more sophisticated than a mouse brain, but we are not overwhelmed by all that additional information (at least most of us...).

I would not be so quick to ridicule the dogs or their handlers. If these dogs were indeed "sniffer dogs," it could be that they were being introduced for the first time to crowds of people streaming off a boat and the exercise was to get them used to this. Or it could have been something else.

Or is could have been bring your dog to work day....

  3. whatever i can decipher from this post is so full of incorrectness that i just don't know where to start.

" yes tourists never bring anything to the islands." tourosit are complelty drug free people and sit round beachs having dinner parties and eating pack lunch.

the thought of bringing anything bad to samui is just stupid. i mean what sort of a hippy would take drugs get off their face and jump through a ring of fire.

never herd of a hippie not taking drugs. crazy police crazy. )))

anyway if these people had real gutts there would fight the bill jump in the ring and challenge them legally.

or challenge them to a dual though you might have to explain the rules first.

  4. i've documented my problems here with tot in the past, and while i think they are completely incompetent and generally unhelpful, if you're dropping the connection a lot then there is always a chance that the firmware in your modem/router needs to be updated.

look up your current firmware and then just google your modem/router brand and see if an update is available, if so then download it and install it and you may not have any more connection problems. should take about 15 minutes total if you know what you are doing.

  5. yea i think you'll need to take a drive and look as you can't really count on anybody having everything year round. the nursery jimmy mentioned between bophut and maenam would be a great start, very large selection of lots of things, it's on the left hand side near soi 5 mae nam (mae nam side of traffic lights) and if nothing there, keep heading towards bang por and there is another good but smaller nursery on the mountain side in ban tai.

  6. Saw a couple of live and kicking ones at the pet shop/hotel between Makro and Sirisin a few weeks ago. They seem to have quite a good turnover of cute little pets there. If not still there maybe the very helpful staff have some contacts.

thanks, i've checked at that shop a couple of times over the last two weeks and no luck. also checked the mae nam and bophut pet shops as well. still looking...

Maybe you'll have to wait until Easter?

man i hope not, i'm considering calling someone in udon today to have a few females shipped down here because these two guys are getting a bit bored of each others company.

  8. back to square one. not sure if the thai guy running that facebook air swimmers page had intended to scam people or just a lousy businessman but he's gone completely silent after three weeks worth of "helium this week, sure"

he was asking people to send money in advance for tanks, which i didn't do as he didn't have any product but we can't reach him via email or phone after many repeated attempts. i've got 4 days left now to source some helium for a dam_n balloon.

  9. Every place I have been to on the island charges me 150 baht. Its almost of if they have a price fix agreement for farangs.

i pay 250 at the shop in Tesco, primarily because i have a very thick and luxurious head of hair that requires a stylist trained in the art of scissor only cutting to manage.

at the first sign of the electric buzz of the razor i am out of there, no military cuts for me thank you.

  10. Where's that rain Mr Rooo? :blink::D

Well another day in the garden, clipping, shearing and ho ho ho-ing! (Christmas is coming!) :bah: Moving a few plants around and dividing them... I sure hope that rain or at least some comes soon...

I have decided that this blue flowering plant pictured, that almost looks like a Sweet Pea (I would say Pea family member) .... has to go.....

Had I known when I first planted it that it seeds its self like crazy and grows into every thing..... :annoyed:...... I would have never had planted it....(at least I did not buy it!).

The locals use it for cooking and food decoration, and Thai men use it for dying their greying hair

Anyway tried to rid the garden of it yesterday and today, managed to murder one other vine to which I thought was the root of this....oops :o luckily had a replacement of it from I cutting I had made a few months ago...

So another experiment in the process of learning about habits of local plants! ;)

My gardening book still has not appeared, so cannot look up the name... We'll call it "Blue pea plant"... just to keep things simple! :D

Oh darn! just made a double post! :whistling:

hey jimmy i think that one is dok un chan, or un chan (sounds like anchan) it grows all over the fencing at a thai restaurant we eat lunch at a lot. they make a cold drink with it. you were on target with blue pea plant, as i think the western name would be butterfly pea plant.

  11. My sister in law had ducks, Mr and Mrs Duck I called them and while they could fly, they didnt fly far.

They cleared out my garden of snails in no time and were quite intelligent creatures. Mr Duck was friends with my sister in laws dog, even going so far as to grooming him.

So, yes I understand the attachment and while I am sure many members will find the juvenile humor of duck dinners as oh so tempting, perhaps you might try resisting that temptation and instead try to be helpful to someone who is worried instead.

hey we had a duck and ducklings walk through our yard on bang por beach just a few days ago. not sure which day exactly. was quite an interesting sight, my neighbor and i were trying to herd them away from the road (and the isaan construction workers next door haha) and back towards the beach.

not sure that's the one you are referring to, because you mentioned only one. this was at least five or six.

  12. Yes, I am aware of HomePro and that they are currently out of stock of a number of items.

My question was, is there a list of garden shops on Samui somewhere in these 15 pages?

Such a shame that pinned topics do not have sub-directories -- how much easier and user-friendly that would be....

Agreed. sub directories would be useful..... but cannot do... :(

Like I said Hompro is the best choice on Samui, for a few western style tools, but limited to Spades and Shovels when it comes to quality, that I have found so far... here on Samui

Not sure if there are places in Surathanni ...? Chancy to go check out unless you are heading that way anyways.......

Also a number of items in some shops in sort supply due to flooding in BKK and areas..... we just have to wade it out.... :)

small corner hardware shops are great for wheelbarrows, fencing and pipes but home pro is the place to go for most garden tools. i've never had any problems with hand tools, lawn mowers, rakes etc that i've bought at home pro however the pressure sprayers are complete crap, i've bought 3 from there in varying price ranges and they all broke within the first two uses so i'm just not buying any of those types of things there anymore. the shovels, hoes and rakes have all held up very well.
