  1. No, T&S is on Soi 18 almost to the end of that soi, a good walk up from the main Suk Road...

Los Cabos is Soi 14 just on the in-town side of the Asoke BTS station, less than 100 meters off Suk Rd.

T&S's location on Soi 18 is across the main Asoke Rd. on the out of town side, and several hundred meters up the soi.

O.K. thanks jfc, yes I hit Los Cabos regularly when I am in BKK so am familiar with where that is right off the Asoke station, sounds like T&S is a bit of a hike from there. Cheers, GOM

  2. i live next to the construction site, but tell the truth, gotta be very long way to go cuz, been around for last 6months and nothing really progressing noticeably about the site. very few workers wondering around during day times and its about it. maybe it will take 2more years to complete?? seriously, all the constructions in Thailand are same, lazy asses.

hellracer I'm going to politely disagree, I've seen construction that was weeks away go up in days with round the clock Burmese working away.

  3. O.K., I'm just hanging around at breakfast time, so will give this a shot:

    Prefer motorbike, drivers here suck.

Get a house (12,000-20,000 gets you a lot), condos where you can hear your neighbor farting.............no thanks.

Touts and scams mainly Patong, stay away from there unless you like HIV LB's.

Check for Woody Leonard's posts for the internet stuff, he's regularly running tests and posting

I prefer Chalong Nai Harn, some here like the northern part of the island, I'd say get yourself a crib on the hillside in Kata Or Karon with an ocean view and you'll be fine.

reason for edit: tried C&P with his questions and it came out like scheit

  4. Yep, JFC, it's the canned stuff. I'm just excited these days when you can even get that. You're also right about overall it's great now to have some options for Mexican food in Bangkok. The place has come a long ways. It's all good but it is still sad to see the typical tourist load up only at those Sunrise taco places. Then again loads of folks think Taco Bell is good food, liquid re-fried beans from a tube dispenser. Those that do should really view that Food, Inc. video once.

C'mon now, don't go knocking Tbell. When I lived in the states that used to be our 3AM hamskied out of our minds food stop. Next day wouldn't remember other than the fact those liquified beans would dirty up the bowl. Then recollection would set in "Oh that's right had the Tbell late night".......

So Tacos and Salsa's new spot is near Los Cabos off the Asoke platform?

  5. I have both a BofA savings and checking account, and I used to use my card here in Bangkok regularly, but since then I have cut back the use of it here. I had to call every three months to remind them I am here in Bangkok, and it just got to be a little annoyance. I occasionally still use it, but not too often. The good thing is they have a number you can call collect, and they foot the bill for the international charges so you can remind them where you are.

I did not know that was a branch here in Bangkok though. Where is it located?

It use to be around the Wireless Road and Petburi road intersection, or around Chidlom or something. It's been 15 years since I've been to it.

I was working as an interpretor for cobra gold military exercises and that's where the payroll was deposited.

Just back from their site, here is the location info (couldn't find the info from my previous post though, so still looking if anyone knows):

The bank is currently located at All Seasons Place, CRC Tower, 33rd Floor, 87/2 Wireless Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330.

This is interesting for me as recently I opened a BofA account in the U.S. and have been transferring money from my SCB account which draws a 1% fee, then a 12$ U.S. charge from BofA for the wire.

If there is this BofA branch in Bangkok, can I walk in there and directly deposit into my U.S. established account and avoid the fees?

  7. i always use the mom & pop shops for veggies, and almost always for beer...but GOM, i am curious to see what the TOPS will have in it!

I'm with you amyb, I "try" and use the Mom&Pops as much as possible but am definitely guilty of the convenience of the convenience stores due to the fact that now we've got them every 100meters.

  8. Absolutely amazing rotis - Malaysian style "roti prata" - at the shop next to SCB Bank downtown. Try the goat/mutton gaeng on an egg prata.

I used to fly to Singapore to get rotis as good. Took me years to find this shop.

OP - "Muslim" food is called "Halal" and it's close to "Kosher" in many respects. Food sold with a "Halal" inscription must, by Thai law, meet specific manufacturing and handling requirements. No pork is just part of the picture. Brief description at http://en.wikipedia....i/Halal_Cooking . There's a Thai overview at http://www.halal.or..../main/index.php

    Hi Woody,

    downtown, meaning Phuket Town?

  9. Its the same as being the new kid in school and the cool kids wont let you sit at their table at lunch.

55555....its very funny and very very pathetic.

I'm not a 16 year old girl on face book, so could some one please explain these 55555's I keep seeing!

I guess that feeling of being unpopular at school has never really left you mate. Kids can be so cruel :(.

Perhaps if you can just shake that feeling, of being the little boy on his first day, you wouldn't take it so personally.

Since I made your list of people you wouldn't want to meet at the gig I won't let on but give a hint. "Ha, Ha, Ha"

  10. There are a lot of things to like about the Bourbon St. restaurant, and its "Mexican" buffet certainly is a good value in that one can stuff one's self silly with decent food that approximates Mexican food for a very reasonable price.

That said, Bourbon Street's offering is a kind of a vague version of Mexican food... close in some respects, far off in many others. In the latter category, just start with the pot of melted Cheese Whiz stuff that's on offer as a kind of nachos topping, then head for what seems like the bowl of store-bought bland tomato sauce/salsa, and it will make you appreciate the quality and caliber of some of the other Mexican offerings available in town.

Thanks for that jfchandler, I was about to ask when this buffet happens, but the "Cheese Whiz stuff" certainly is not Mexican food. If I head for Bourbon Street, I'll stick to Cajun.

For the poster who wrote most of the people here are "poseurs" I guess I fall in the 1% having actually spent time in Mexico (as well as Central America), and grew up with Mexican friends whose Mom's made top notch handmade everything. MMMMM..........tamales.......

Also, I love looking at this thread strictly to get a chuckle out of the pasteur pun, that is awesome.

  11. fingers-crossed that it's western fare, BillR! i loathe the sai yuan 7-11! saw the new family mart near the crepes place...it's not open yet...

Opens tonight I think. Family Mart is Japanese owned, so should have different variety to 7-11

Hate to telly ou this but 7/11 is also Japanese owned. Was sold to some Japanese Mega-corp several years ago.

Everybody, please use the Mom&Pop shops when you can over these Tesco/7/Tops places. One huge advantage to the Mom&Pop is typically they don't have to follow the completely ludicrous "can only sell alcohol at these hours" law.

  12. are you sure it's curry in the ข้าวหมกไก่ because a muslim neighbor said it was saffron. and seriously, you shouldn't be so worked up over someone spelling it like "kow mook gy" as it is pretty phonetic.

Here, here, amyb, I always get a laugh out of posters arguing over the romanized spelling of Thai words.

  13. Completely agree GOM.

Have you tried Spaghetti House in Ao Nang? Up past MacDonalds, 200m - ish on the same side

Italian chef, pasta from 110-160B. Not too keen on his pizzas but pasta is nice enough.

Thank you Charlie, will give that a go when I'm in Krabi next week. Cheers, GOM

  14. what happened to brown rice? i mean, where did it go? i was away from phuket for two weeks, came back and the place is GONE! let me know the details...

    Hi amyb, welcome back.

I don't know the exact details on brown rice, but the family that was living there was basically running that out of their house. Looked in yesterday and it looks like the family has moved out, or taken an extended vacation.

As things are going on Sai Yuan, I wouldn't be surprised if they were offered a bunch of money for the frontage so that someone could build a shophouse.......took the money back to Isaan.

    All speculation.

  15. For some good inexpensive Thai food and beers, try Kates on the way to Yannui from the Rawai Orbitor's. I had the Penang chicken and it was excellent !

From the Rawai Orbitor go towards Yannui and when the street starts to curve left, go straight and it's 20 more meters up, on the left, white sign.

  16. barka, this thread is over 6 years old!

making a point about how long he has been here (again)?

You guys just cannot stop sniping at each other, even in a very tragic topic.Even if it is over 6 years old.

Far be it for be to comment on moderation, but the topic is "Police Seek Witnesses To Double Fatality".

I'd say after six years, the witnesses are slim and none, and slim for sure has left town.

My post was an atempt at humor, as in another thread the "sniping" I thought was pretty funny, as it often is.

But the real questions remain, why did barka dig this up, and why wasn't it shut down as "expired news"?

  17. Easy ! Get a Taxi or Bus to Krabi Airport (max 2 h) and fly to BKK within 90 min with daily numerous departures

The OP specifically asks for boat and bus info and two posters reply she should fly..............

Do I agree, yes, is it what the poster was after, no.

  18. Hi Again,

have you been to the travel people right in Saladan town across from the Police Box? They also have internet terminals for use? They have all kinds of travel deals there.

You may need to bust up the combo yourself, get the boat to Phuket and then get from Phuket bus station to BKK. Best of luck !
