  1. Reasonable accommodation and food in Phuket? You've got to be kidding, right?

Wrong thread Mr. Forbes, the current Phuket bashing is happenning on the tuk-tuk blockade topic.

OP, Kata should have a lot of options for you. You are probably looking at somewhere near 25US$ a night. Check that other thread plus you might post to PM you with any offers members here might have on their guesthouses as it's not allowed to openly promote your own establishment on the Forum.

  2. I have been getting several misconfigured and blank emails from The Phuket News as well. What a disaster these guys are.

Don't know how they got my mobile#, but they started spamming my message box there about a week before they published.

Because of that I will never buy or look at their paper.

  3. How about we move this to the Phuket forum. Thanks for that other link, but I think this poster might be looking for less expensive accommodations?

Poster on that thread looking between 500-800thb, how much lower at this time of year do you think you can go?

oops! I thought I saw an extra 0!

FYI- the property that has the place that I recommended Kata Villa, in 1991 was a bunch of the thatched bungalows with fans across from the beach, 80thb a night.

    No more of those around.....

  5. Hi every one,

I have to thank to Mr. Grumpyoldman for his comments about our beef fajitas. Actually, at the beginning i was a bit upset with my staff and me and a bit with Mr. Grumpy.

But then i realize, at the end of the month, and checking my sales numbers, that, actually i have increased the sales of Fajitas, in general including the beef fajitas, and it may be thanks to the expectation created by the post.

Anyway, I hope can see you here and I would like to thank you all for the grand support to the Mexican food culture in Thailand.

I hope to see you here soon.

Oh man! Grumpy taking a hit for Awohalitsiktoi !

Sorry Jorge, as I PM'd to you, I have not been to your restaurant yet, would not have put down your fajitas if I actually hadn't tried them, that would be bad. I posted that I've never understood the attraction to fajitas and am more of the combo grande type.

I'll look to try your place toward the end of the month, will post here my results. Cheers, GOM

Sorry Grumpy, i didn't mean to point you or anyone, So i have to Thanks Awohalitsiktoi.

I am very apologize with you man, and i hope to see all you here soon.

Actually I am planing a Thai Visa comunity party and work shop where we can cook and share experiences together and i friendly live forum, is any one interested to organize it.

I would like to call also for a evening "make it yourself? burrito or tacos with all the truly Mexican food fanatics like us.

If anyone interested, please do not hesitate on contact me

    Have a nice week

    Jorge Bernal

No worries Jorge, just didn't want you to think I was the one that posted a bad experience with your fajitas when I hadn't been to your place yet.

Yes, "make it yourself" night. My Mom used to do this, she called it "walking tacos". You would take either a tortilla, a taco shell or a tostada shell and walk around the table set with all the makings and whip up your own creation.

  6. Which bungalow hotel anybody?

I regularly stay at Ao Nang Village Bungalows across from McDonalds, hopefully not that one.

Its common knowledge in Ao nang ,which bungalow hotel it is,Ao nangs a small place, where everybody likes to gossip,My heart goes out for their families and friends, RIP.

o.k............................so would someone with that common knowledge like to impart which freakin bungalow outfit please?

  7. A little off-topic but still having to do with Air Asia, those of you that use the kiosk check in, what is the advantage if you have baggage?

I use it when I have only carry-on, and it is way convenient, don't have to wait in queue, but with luggage I still have to go to the counter.

Any advantage using the kiosk check-in when checking baggage?

  8. Thx a lot, just around the corner

Just found them on the net, not very good TV programs so its not gonna be them

    http://www.kppcable.com/program.html

But the guy that owns PNS Market, down near Nikitas, told me True is installing in the area. My wife told me the same thing too. We shall see...

    Yo Jimbo,

True will have both internet and Truevisions? Maybe I'll just wait around for them. Please PM me if you hear about a startup date for Nai Harn (Nanachat area). Thx,GOM

  9. The hotel was actually a Bungalow style hotel.

Here is the link to the story from the Swedish Newspaper with quotes from the owner of the hotel.

    http://www.aftonblad...icle12827071.ab

    Nisa

    "just another coincidence again"? Downton...

    cheers .........

It's in Scan... but Googie might help......

Hotel owners: It was no shock

The fatal accident occurred last Saturday in a bungalow hotel in the popular tourist resort of Krabi.

    Which bungalow hotel anybody?

I regularly stay at Ao Nang Village Bungalows across from McDonalds, hopefully not that one.

  10. Can you name the hotel?

    Poor management.....

They should have made the ground (earth) system......

I need a good inspection for my shower too.............

I was really hoping to find out what hotel too. It would seem more than fair and actually appropriate to name them.

    Nisa ...........

Or we can just assume the whole area is crap... and don't go there.

i have seen many cases similar to this with the locals too.

They died in a shower where the installation is bloody poor....

This is the 1st and won't be the last ......

I made a crack before that after the first death or two a hotel would kind of be forced to make sure all the units were in proper order but given the fact this could happen again in a month without us knowing it is the same hotel makes that an incorrect assumption if hotel management are sleazes..

I'm with you Nisa, would just like the name of the hotel.

Don't understand these other two posters, I've googled it and looked around the internet still can't find the name of the hotel.

For the poster who says to assume whole area is crap, please remember the word "assume" - to make an "ass" out of "u" and "me".

  11. I used to have Rawai Cable, but for over two years they told me they would have internet on my Soi, they have it in other parts of town, but not on my street.

You must live near me. Granted it's cheap but , I went in there and said I really wanted the internet, not so much for the cable TV. They said, "oh yeah, two months, have internet on your soi". Coming up on a year now, no internet. Ready to switch to KPP and pay the 1700 a month.....

  13. For just a basic clean and polish I use a Happy Smile shop in Chalong they get me for 800thb.

For anything more I use Bangkok-Phuket Hospital's Dental Center, extremely professional, maybe a little more money-wise, but not exorbitant by any means.

  14. You might check Kata Villa.

It's across from the Karon Beach Resort (and obviously Karon Beach), they have a pool and you are walking distance into Kata Center.

I think your timeframe is still technically high season, not sure what you are going to be able to find in the 5-800thb range........................

  15. Exacly. just Another sad old pervert just as i thought. Yes i have seen the type taking girls home young enough to be there grandchildren. It makes me sick. It is the Sad sex tourists that give Thailand a bad name and not the Muay thai students .........Do you really think these young girls like fat old men ?????

You got it right , but forgot "very bald"..they are very prevelent inThe Grumpy Sad pervert group also....:whistling:

Dont worry about this particular GOM..he frequently has keyboard warrior moments against Muay Thai guys...maybe got his ar-- kicked in the past...:D

........or maybe I've seen enough of these Muay Thai guys act really poorly in the bars I've been in.

Watched as some MT knucklehead headbutted a 70 year old guy and broke his nose for no reason, watched as a foreigner MT lady get so worked up at some Thai women that she picked a fight and then got her ass kicked. Oh, then of course the steroided out freak who cowardly stabbed an American serviceman last year.

No, seen enough idiots of this type, more and more coming due to the preponderance of the "vicious jungle camps" as stated by the OP (back on topic). But I will say you are correct in that I shouldn't paint all with one brush.

And now I'll bow out of this thread as we've gone away from Rambo and his claims.

  16. Too long, too boring, a movie with endless tiring dialogue.

Never mind Kung <deleted> Panda 2 will soon be out. wink.gif

    O.K., touche, good shot.

What you don't know about GOM is that I have a minor in film and have actually written a screenplay, the sequel to Dustin Hoffman's "The Graduate".

To the poster that mentioned it's overwhelming victory at The Oscars, that is why I posted "a slow year for pictures".

In my studies, having concentrated on Film Noir (Double Indemnity circa late 50's, fantastic picture puts The King's Speech to shame), Hitchcock, even classes on South American cinema, I assure you, this picture is just a load of drivel. Proud moment for English Cinema (?) sure, and congratulations but this is not one of the better "Best Picture" Oscar winners.

  17. Thank you for the tips!

Nai Yang looks great! I will check the rental prices.

Any other suggestions or tips for our upcoming moving to Thailand? Any other location would fit us well?

Classic TV poster, OP asks for a suggested place to live and someone hits him with "you better have a work permit....." yeeeeesh.

In my opinion the Bangtao area seems like it might be o.k. for you, but I would shoot for a stand alone house, never been big on apartments or condos. But they sure do have a bunch of those up there. Lersuang Group, Richmond Group etc.

You might consider Krabi, Khlong Muang area nice and quiet, but come low season the beaches disappear.

  18. The silence regarding anyone else involved is deafening.

Why is it that "Rambo" is the only guy reporting this?

The picture in the unmentionable news source is hilarious, the guy has the tourist shot with the snake around his neck. Why is Thailand such the goofball magnet ?
