  1. I want to apologize personally if any of the drivers of the two DaVinci Fortuners have driven dangerously, including me who is one of the co-owners.

There is NO excuse for driving dangerously on Thai roads, they are dangerous enough and when you have the name of your business splashed across both sides it seems a little stupid.. I will personally talk to all of the staff that drive these vehicules.

I would like to invite you and your family to have dinner at DaVinci on me. Please contact me through the restaurant or just turn up with a printed copy of this.

Hopefully we wont have 20 people turning up with the same piece of paper....:-)

Once again we apologize and take all comments regarding DaVinci on Thai Visa Seriously.

Ever since some idiot in a Da Vinci fortuner tried to run me and my family off the road, speeding like a maniac, I refuse to give that place a try.

I do want others to view my review on the Saigon restaurant in Chalong. Really worth the trip (but not considered falang food, per the topic).

    Wow, word gets out................

  2. If everyone claims Capanina is the best on the island, some could be right :)

During my +6 years of dining or taking home food from Capanina, I have been disapointed only a couple of times. Happens with any restaurant if they serve you 100-200 times.

Da Vinci was ok with the previous owner, but not on par any more

    so we disagree :)

I guess you're just one of the people who jump on the "in' places bandwagon.

We can at least agree on that.

What a load of h***seshi* katasyd.

I've been eating at Campanina long before it was popular and Mario typically does a great job.

I think if katabeachbum has eaten there some 200 times that trumps your one bad meal. Get over yourself.

  3. Bajen Pizzaria has a mini-golf scenario.

Maybe one afternoon/evening you can do a round of minigolf and after get a pizza.

Other than that I agree with the other poster, just lots of beach time on Lanta. If you have a car, then you can get up early and ferry back to the mainland, see the hotsprings maybe go to Krabi town.

  4. mostly about 3 hrs on busy weekends....

Huh? Can you state exact date and time that you spent three hours in the ferrry process?

    The wonderful Thai SongKran festival....

On some weekends, even on non-festival season....

I often waited for more than 2 hrs to complete the crossing....

Sorry, maybe you missed the part of the topic title which is "right now"?

    April 2010?????

  5. Was at Los Cabos Friday night.

I truly believe that not only do they have the best Chile Relleno in Thailand, but maybe in all of SE Asia! The Marlin combo is the bomb, had me fueled up for a night on the town (or was it the margaritas and tequila shot.....?..)

Funny though, saw a couple eating hamburgers, struck me as funny to go to a Mexican place and order a burger. That being said, the burgers looked pretty hearty.

  6. I am not much of a fruit eater, but I do eat some Thai fruits like Mango, Rambutan and Tamarind. Tamarind can be a bit sour, and as shake or sauce it usually contains sugar. If you havent tried shrimps in Tamarind, you really have missed some delicious Thai food :P

Best in Kata are Red Chair in Koktanod 80 baht, and Kata Mama on south end of beach 120?baht with large shrimps. Just to get some Tamarind taste :D

katabeachbum, that road that has Red Chair on it, last night I noticed a bunch of restaurants. What's your opinion on Kata Grill and Rugantino's, have you been?

  7. Extremely unfair to label any one group of people. I hear the same thing about Americans, loud, arrogant and although I agree some Americans are like this, definitely not all.

My Russian friends are generous and great, happy to have them as my friends.

teerak69, I think your post shows your limited exposure, and it's definitely not fair to conclude about a race by an experience on a visa run bus.

  8. There was a big thread on them last year. It seemed there were some dodgy dealings surrounding this group but whether it was of their own making or caused by someone else I have not a clue. Perhaps they have been forced to closed down or have fled the scene as it seemed there would be court cases pending. It would be interesting for someone to comment who actually has dealings with them or has in the past.

Dodgy real estate dealings in Phuket? Really? Say it ain't so Valentine!

  9. The Superbowl will be shown LIVE at The Freebird Bar and Restaurant in Rawai at 6:30 AM on Monday!

For more information call Jackie on: 081 270 6310

ASN schedule has the Super Bowl show starting at 6:00AM, kickoff supposedly at 6:30 which tends to be a few minutes after that.

  10. Freebird sports bar will be showing it, AC and 2 50'' tvs , in Rawai.

Can someone confirm that Freebirds will show it Live.

I know they do the replays later but will they be open at 6:45AM?

  11. I tried the Sandwich Shoppe on Wednesday for breakfast. I was there 4 years ago and was not impressed. Thought I would give Woody another chance.

Great ambience, great selection of breads and muffins, etc.

My only complaint is that the three of us (two of MY guests) sat at the table. For 15 minutes. Finally I got up and asked when can we be served. The girl behind the counter put a blue and a pink order sheet on the counter and walked away.

Now, why not tell us, somewhow, that we must get our asses up and order at the counter? No signs that points us to that counter. The two girls just looked at us for those 15 minutes, while serving others, or chatting by the sub breads. Not once were we told anything.

All three plates arrived together. A first in Thailand.

Will go back again now that I know the system, that I had to learn the hard way.

Please do help the girls out there and use the sheet. I was there one moring when a guy (truly loud guy too) said "I want foot long chicken-bacon and foot long chicken club" (or some other chicken sub) "this one on this bread that one on that bread".

Well, his order came out with two chicken clubs on different bread, then he got replacement on same bread, meanwhile there are 10 other customers the girls are trying to handle orders for and this guy is getting all frustrated " not that hard, shouldn't take so long"!! Girls apologising profusely.....

I just wanted to turn to the guy and say, if you had stepped up, checked the boxes on the sheet, you would have been outta here 15 minutes ago a****hole.

  12. I saw a newspaper from Europe say in the travel section, why go to Phuket when you can get it for half the price in Pattaya, this was for younger people they pointed out, people who go out every night.

HDRIDER spot on. A Russian friend who likes Pattaya said it's half the price of Phuket. BUT ocean water is polluted, but I guess if you stay out all night and roll out of bed at 4pm, an hour by the pool is good enough.

Reason for edit: typo Russian fiend

  13. Tonight and I think every Tuesday night during high season is a "battle of the bands" at Friendship Beach in Rawai.

Lots of good rock 'n roll and a large buffet, I'm not sure of all the details (times and prices), but there ya go anyway. Cheers, GOM

They are calling it a "Music Extravaganza" and I think they do it about once a month.

There are 4 bands starting at 6:45 PM.

"Fuzz Tones", "Colin Hill Band", and "Big Bamboo" are going to play.

I thought Colin Hill was at Freebird bar on Tuesdays? Oh well, could be Alzheimers setting in...........

  15. Hi Grumps, I've always found the banks charge 20 baht or so whenever u use an atm at any branch other than the one u opened your acc (with the exception of Tisco).

Usually there is no fee if you use any branch of your bank's card in the same Provence as your bank.

Hi Ray, Livininkata is correct regarding SCB anyway. In Phuket where I established the account no fee when using the ATM, outside Phuket, 20thb chisel.

  16. HOORAY !

When I first heard this story I was amazed as Jimmy had been parking his car in the same spot for some time. If it was a problem he should have been notified before the accident, not taken to the cleaners after something happened. But anyway, good news, I guess I missed the party, that was Friday night?

  17. GOMS (Grumpy Old Men's Society) will meet at Chalong Pier Beer Garden on Monday 24th Jan. Meetings are held regularly to raise funds for charities proposed & agreed upon by the members. It is also a good fun evening that runs from 6pm to around 8.30pm.

Any group, club or society that would have me as a member I wouldn't want to belong to.

  18. I Agree 100% Los Amigos is great Mexican Food at a very respectable price and a nice setting. I usually have the mixed Chimmichunga (beef & chiken) good portion and very yummy. Has been like this for more than 4 years I have been going.

M&Ms is also on my list of excellent food and consistant I tried the home made Pana Cota last time my its good not a dessert person but I recommend it after an excellent Seafood Pizza.

Sunday Roasts have to be the Islander in Nai Harn/Rawai one of the most friendly bars in the area draught Tiger & Heineken and always some sport on and the home made good British Food .Try some of MineHost Pauls wife Lesley's Lancashire Lass Pies delish better by far than Lady Pies.

Looking forward to being back in Phuket at the end of the month.

After the last farang food thread, we are all clear there is a pinned topic on restaurants, yes? Shouldn't these go there?

  19. OP, are you English or American?

You refer to "the insignificant soccer game" which leads me to believe you are American as I believe the English call it football, no? Also, hard to believe any Englishman would consider a football game insignificant......

With that in mind, do the English refer to the ball itself as a soccer ball or a football?

    English;

Rugby Football is correct, or Rugger

    Round ball football is soccer.

As far as I'm concerned(I'm waiting to be shot down!)

soccer is a game for overpaid ballerinas

Rugby is a game for men.

    I'm a Yank and agree with this.:D

I think a huge reason it's never taken off in America is because of the word........................soccer. You almost hear a "her" in the word, just sounds feminine, and then the little shorts, and the hugging on each other after scoring......

I think if in the states they changed the name to world football, it might be more interesting.
