  1. yeah your still with the same insurer.. That works.. up to a deadline.. Try calling around with a >15 year car wanting new insurance..
  2. Nope.. No way to get anything over Class 2 + money at one age and class 3 + money at another.. The age is dependant on the company and if you were insured with them over years.. 10 years back I had a 1996 VW golf.. at 15 years old there was no insurer who would offer anything good. Same when I had a 'beach jeep' Have a retro / classic merc 500 of mid 90s.. and you have to run around on base insurance even if the thing is worth 500 600k.. I have no idea how the multi million baht classics get covered, I have asked every insurer I spoke to and no one can refer me to a specialist for classics, I make the assumption one has to exist but I have asked.
  3. Is this any surprise how an authoritarian military government would try to reconfigure the society ?? Remember the farangs that cheered on the whistle crew ?? Who supported the removal of elected governance by force ?? When the sane among us warned of where that can lead. Yeah they are not quite as vocal now are they ??
  4. They are doubling down on what doesnt work.. They hit rock bottom, and started digging.
  5. I must admit I quite like the Croatia coastline.. I reckon I could handle the lifestyle there and year round weather..
  6. I truly dont find that at all.. My cost of living with a like for like lifestyle once you package in husband and wife cars and all the costs.. Is ballpark the same in the UK. Then each little bit of luxury you add.. Leans more to the west than Thailand. Then western homes appreciating v Thais ones depreciating, with an actual functioning resale market where you can liquidate your asset if you wish. EU can be more expensive (I had apartments in Holland, Ireland, and a UK base pre covid) than UK I do notice that, especially the high tax economies like Holland. But there I make money easily.. here I spend it.. One is a net plus, the other a net drain.
  7. OK thanks.. Must have been brazilian I confused and miss remembered it.. I also thought Koreans had a 90 days visa exempt too..
  8. I had it in my mind that Americans (N American, USA) could get a 90 day visa exempt same as S American, Brazilians (argentines, peruvians, etc). A quick google says clearly they now dont.. But did they ever ?? Could have sworn they used to.
  9. Because you made a dubious claim.. And now dont or wont provide a single example of that claim.. Therefore its easy for everyone to see.. Its a bogus claim. In all the years I have had one.. The pink ID has never done anything my Thai driving license didnt do. The queue for vaccines was going to be a first, but then then didnt happen either. Yellow book on the other hand, was sometimes useful, primarily at the land transport office.
  10. And heres the real heart of the problem.. They dont have clear defined policies that are then stuck to.. On anything.. One persona has 10 days hospital.. Another has 14 days quarantine.. The famiuly might get allowed out after a test on day 3 or 4.. Maybe.. Who knows.. Its entirely at the mercy of Somchais random mood on the day.. Like immigration.. Like motor vehicle sales and inspections.. like.. Etc..
  11. Top down patronage culture where seniority can never be openly questioned, where bad ideas become maintained and propagated.. Which in turn empowers seniority to become entrenched corruption recipients which the juniors must pay into (not only in money, in favors, work, respect). The entire structures of boon khun, greng jai.. The structures of nepotism and deserved right to incomes / benefits/ monopolies and cartels doled out to clan based networks.. This cultural format, the very bones, is whats holding the country back from advancement, modernisation, development, skills growth, wage growth, etc etc etc.. Its not just in the education.. Though it is there also.. It permeates every facet of the social model.
  12. Yeah you just couldnt imagine a Thai who had.. say... a Macedonian investment program passport...
  13. ohh arent you precious.. ???? So you cant come up with any either.. Thats what I figured..
  14. I have both Pink ID (from previous address) and had a yellow house book but dont at this address.. I agree the yellow house book did help for land transport office, thought thats about the only thing. 1) Never had any bank (siam commercial, bangkok, Kasikorn) ever not accept a Thai DL as ID. 2) Opened all the above without either. 3) Never had a pink ID accepted when a Thai DL wasnt (love to know where) ?? 4) Again, never found a Pink ID any more use than a DL (and thats not much.. No Nat parks any longer etc). 5) I heard this, but we live in a province where farangs got front of the queue access over Thais, so waiting on the Mor Phrom queue would have been a delay. 6) Immigration here gives anyone even a 30 day exempt a residence paper but yes, this is where a yellow book helps. For me, The yellow book had value, the Pink ID has none.. I carry it, and do constantly look for places it may help, and never find them.. Present a Thai DL, if thats not taken, presenting the Pink ID after has literally never worked. Back pre (??) 2015 or so either a Thai DL or a Pink ID card tended to work at Nat parks, now neither do.
  15. Where exactly ?? Because a Pink ID has been turned down at every national park I tried it at since about 2015. I have one, its just been useless to me.
  16. as does a driving license.. Since the national parks formal order to not give local discounts to nat park dual pricing to pink ID card holders I have found not a single benefit to holding one, if you already have a Thai driving license. Not one.
  17. Dont worry.. Other posters on here say its a totally normal perfectly working system !! ????
  18. Woudl you expect anything less than this mindset from Military minds ??
  19. Because the departure test is 72 hours prior.. Thats 3 days of moving around in (what Thailand sees) as high risk areas.. Then the travel time.. Then the arrival day.. Add all this together and its could be as much as 5 plus days of exposure they wish to control. Does that seem a large risk ?? Not to me.. But then I dont really give much of a thought to COVID, loads of my mates and work colleagues have all had it.. I am not older or immune compromised, I can take my chances. But to Thailand ?? With the constant covid fear porn ?? They have a much different risk analysis.
  20. Each amphur is a rule unto themselves.. A prior place I lived was super easy.. Rental contract, owners tabien baan / ID, a Thai with you, and copies of a bunch of things (visa passport etc) and all smiles. Just down the road they seem to treat them like gold dust.. Phu Yai baan and multiple witnesses must come and vouch for you, etc etc.. Still possible but way more work. I have heard of some amphurs simply making up rules until people gave up.. "Go to bangkok and have this legally translated and attested by the Min of Foreign affairs" or similar.. With each new hurdle laid on top of accomplishing the prior problem moving goalposts.
  21. I buy and sell vehicles pretty often.. Helps a bunch then.
  22. Exactly.. the 'at the vey least in hotels and hotel restaurants' is just icing on the cake.. "man who stands to benefit from reduced alcohol controls demands reduced alcohol controls' doesn't make quite the same headline does it.
  23. Its also to facilitate knowledge transfer and bring Thai workers up in skills, hence the 4 Thai staff per WP rule.. So its not like theres nothing that they would object to.
