  1. yeah just this morning there was media coverage of someone with stroke like symptoms from AZ and thats now making my wife even more resistant for her first shot tomorrow.
  2. TOTALLY disagree with the Thais I know.. Far less trusting than westerners of anything said by government, need for it, safety of it, desire for it.. I am having to push like crazy with my own wife and loads of her circle are either anti or taking a wait and see.. That goes to the whole extended family where only 1 of about 20 - 30 people are vaxxed. Oddly they all seem to love any snake oil / herbal ideas anyone promotes.. That they will actively spend from there very limited budgets on.
  3. which is why it wont happen.. Treason in Thai language is nation seller.. Draw your own conclusions.
  4. How utterly predictable.. Only surprise is they didnt wait for the first few 100 to invest 500k usd before deciding it..
  5. Of course the poverty pensioners howl.. they are not invited.. and where next ?? Cambodia ?? PI ?? how far down the ladder can they end up when the pensions are going to get chewed up by inflation over the next decade.. Get used to it, Thailand isnt going to remain easy or cheap.. Always have an exit plan.. Thailand has made it abundantly clear who they want to attract..
  6. Correct.. But a large part of the world, Thailand included practices a system where for 'active income' they operate a physical presence test. In other words if you are engaged in performing an activity within the country, as opposed to commissions, dividends, rents, or other forms of passive income, your tax resident from day 1 that the activity is practiced. The myth that dual taxation agreements prevent this or that 180 days needs to elapse first is simply a lack of understanding how tax territory can be defined and determined.
  7. A large aspect of the problem is that 1) it is near impossible to prove if the person doesn't self incriminate and 2) Thailand is so reliant on tourism they are terrified to make a blanket statement that threatens punishment for a genuine visiting tourist who checks work email or logs into an office system while on holiday.. Its another one of these badly codified laws that they simply ignore until they choose not to.. Its very clearly the law, but its also one that they could create massive negative PR for a vital industry should they actually start enforcing it. In any sane country they would clearly legally establish a system of exemptions (no Thai clients, no duration over, no etc) and or combine that with some kind of revenue gathering incentivised with incountry extensions.. But fundamentally its still a banana republic (with the xxxx as the head of state !!!) with nicer malls.. They seem pathologically incapable of clear well defined laws, creating a justice system based on prior case law, etc etc. Case in point would be something like defining work and using the term they are defining in the definition.. Total logic 101 fail.
  8. There are other countries in the world... And ways to pay tax and be legal.
  9. Yes they have been manipulating it down for years.. The opposite of what most expats howl about..
  10. www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/incidents/aussie-teacher-details-horrific-conditions-inside-thai-detention/news-story/d432a704bf0db1def6d79489ae1b830c? "he was teaching English to Chinese students online through an Australian company, and said he was told this was fine because no money was exchanged through Thailand"
  11. Legally you need it.. Anyone telling you that by law it is exempt if you dont have Thai clients is either a fool or a liar (the elite folks have said this and I leave it up to you to work out which they are). In reality it is near impossible to prove as long as you dont self incriminate. NEVER tell anyone that you could have a dispute with what your doing, landlords, locals etc.. Keep it private and if encountering any authority and issues its shut the <deleted> up friday.. Only you can get yourself in trouble.
  12. getting the proof is irrelevant when no one trusts that proof.. UK, EU, USA etc.. None count any Thai issued vaccines.
  13. There is currently no facility on either the UK NHS or Thailand MoPH / Mor Phrom to recognise each others vaccine doses..
  14. Its another visa class where the vast majority of posters know little nothing about and immediately want to be negative on (like the O-X). I am starting to encounter more people on this and also am curious how high the hurdles are. I have the ability to create a sub sector of work in one of my corporations which with a bit of creative license could likely be made at least pitchable as a S category sector so I also am curious. For me one of the main selling points of going this way is paying some taxes and 3 years later being on the ladder for citizenship. This option isnt there if I do the O-X route which is my likely future path of least resistance (in another 2 years when I am old enough to apply) unless some of these other proposed routes for long term visas with work permit exemptions come in. Because these seem to be very low volume visas, and maybe also because the kind of applicant isnt one who has all the time to sit around on this forum, there is little direct input.
  15. But when people make extraordinary claims the burden of proof is then on the claimant.. I have no idea if the claim is unusual but the more from the generally understood range it is the more its up to you to cite a reputable source to back up the claim..
  16. Been paying vat on imported items that got caught / assessed since 2001.. Only new thing I have noticed about about VAT is they are applying it to internet services that originate outside of Thailand.
  17. Defined threshold ?? If it was Phuket it would never have left yellow..
  18. You tried to cheat.. Got caught.. and your feeling hard done by.. By all means treat it as a game, I do too (items declared at 1 USD, with a invoice for 1 USD and a paypal payment to a seller for 1 USD.. They still wont accept the full paper trail) but when you play the game dont cry when you lose.. If you had paid with credit card (not debit) you can tell them to go whistle and claim non receipt of the goods.. Also of note.. I also bought a carplay android auto dasaita android head unit from china.. no tax.. I thought china had a special deal, I have never had tax on chinese packages and must have had 30 in the last few months.
  19. Perhaps you.. But that is the clear general gist of the 'I dont need one why should I...' luddite crowd who populate these kind of threads. Now they have a clear reason why they do need one.. The inconvenience of not having one is far greater than cost and hassle of learning to use one.
  20. And now they are finding they do have a need of one.. Yet appear to complaining about it saying they dont need one ?
