Just now, DonniePeverley said:Why is it so difficult for Thailand to sort of the issue the country has with Taxis and tourism? It's such an awful presentation to the world.
Back around 2010 there was an interview with Prab Keesin who was boasting that there were >600 registered tuktuks in patong alone.
Each tuktuk was paying 10,000 a month to be in that syndicate..
Thats 6 million baht a month to pay out to maintain thier monopoly.. Each police chief has to pay a fortune to get allocated to Phuket and Patong is the crown jewel in kickbacks.. Bars, clubs, hotels, everyone is paying big sums in.. Its millions of dollars a month.
Fairly simple why they dont want it fixed isnt it.- 5

The issue you need to think about is when the internet fails because the power has failed.
AIS wifi system has battery backup.. Lasts hours of outage.

Probably a good thing. Why you need internet 18 hours a day?
Security cameras..
The good ones have AI that sends alerts when a human is visible in predetermined zones (indoors, in a porch, non public spaces) etc. -
From Phuket taxi driver to thief is a fine distinction..

Oh I give UP these reports are dafter than trying to read the bible.
Adam, Eve, Cain, Able Cain begate himself a wife...in the land of nod.
The result of a culture that is conditioned to be unable to ask questions and being used to a language which abhors clarity and prefers vagueness.

Surely there are better options than that? My call last week to bank in USA from Thailand using 004 on DTAC (very high quality) was less than 10c (3 baht) a minute including tax. But in any event do not believe you can do such a transfer without being here in person but have never tried.
Of course there are.. Google voice, available to every USA google account, calls Thai numbers for cents.
Lifes just hard for the techphobic..- 1

The local taxi drivers at the pier misunderstood and they did not realize that the Bolt application has already been approved by the PLTO and is not illegal in Phuket.
However, after they have been informed, they now understood.

The fine part is outlined above..
You can export products without a work permit.. You can not make the products without the work permit.
I would have a long look at product production costs here v say Indo / PI.. Possibly also Vietnam. -

These are fundamental outcomes of a clan based society. Within such cultures the rights of the clan or group is more important than the rights of the individual.
Hence breaking, bending, or co-opting laws to the benefit of the clan which in turn enables corruption, is necessary.
The citizen pays the price, in less choice, worse services, and higher pricing. You see this in everything from beer options, to car prices and choice, to transport cartels, etc etc. It permeates everything.- 5

Chewey is and always has been relevant for the chaos he can cause, if he doesnt cause chaos, he isnt relevant..
Hes funny, theres been times he was genuinely rolling back the curtain and dropping bombshells, but increasingly its just chaos and feuding for chaos's sake.- 5

Whats your point?
The point is the complaint of importing foreign weed would not even exist if Thais could compete on a level playing field.
Hell with the cheap labour land and ample sunlight, not even a level playing field, one tilted in thier favor.
Stop with the nonsense about blocking other product and just work on making a better value offering.- 1

Well it is illegal to EXPORT cannabis from any State in the U.S., and from Canada.
And it is illegal to IMPORT cannabis into Thailand. (yes, there is a loophole for "scientific research")
So there's that.
The import thing was a result of needing inventory to sell in the months immediately after legalization. It was a blip. And while there may always be imports, domestic production will probably get 75 - 80% of the market (in weight).
The point was not the law but the mindset..
Its never build a better mousetrap, its always block the competition.. Not only this but in everything from public transport to the domestic vehicle industry..- 1

I understand promoting local production though.
Again with the anti competitive 'must block anyone else'.
Its never lets make the best product, lets provide the best service, lets offer the best value.. Its always lets ban our competition, block any one that tries to 'take our cake' as though the customer somehow belongs to them and them only.
Its the same with everything from tuktuks and win riders, to beer brewing, and now to cannabis..- 5

Immigration jail, What's it like?

That was exactly the conditions on Phuket as late as 2008 2010 kind of time.
Once giant cell, 100 plus burmese, a hole in the corner to piss in.. Inedible food.. etc etc
I helped 3 people deported via IDC by bringing them food they could actually eat etc.
You need to remember these places are primarily for burmese (and other) migrant workers, caught or often discarded without pay by unscrupulous employers. Thais are not going to spend any money on Burmese migrant worker comfort !!
