  1. He was told he could use photos on his phone, but since he had none of himself posing in front of his house, he had to go home, take the pics. and come back again. ????
  2. I have been retired in Phrae for 13 years at the same address, and have done my annual non-o extension renewals with no problems. A friend recently did his renewal and encountered some changes that are puzzling me. In addition to the usual, he was asked for photos of himself and wife outside and inside their house. They also required a home visit from an officer from Bangkok in the presence of a neighbor and the village chief. I was astounded and thought there must be a mistake. I know all this is required for an extension based on marriage, but have never heard of it for an extension based on retirement. I am wondering if this is something new, or perhaps the officer mistakenly applied the marriage rules instead of retirement. Anybody have a similar experience? I hate surprises, especially at the immigration office.
  3. Why don't you try reading the whole story.
  4. That's how I read it too. So let 'em in, but don't let 'em out? ????
  5. This gets complicated and difficult for westerners to understand. It's best to see a lawyer. A will or usufruct is your only route and even then is not a guarantee, particularly pertaining to the land. Don't rely on forum advice.
  6. Why is it that monks and money go together ? That pretty much describes ALL religions. Like George Carlin used to say, "God always seems to need money. He just can't manage to stay on a budget."
  7. "LOL so really if we think about it buying pot is a lot like buying cigarettes or beer in 711 you can buy it there but have to go somewhere else to consume it." That's not a problem for me.
  8. A clear example of why permits and inspections are required in the civilized world.
  9. Reminds me of when I had a/c units installed at my house. I noticed they didn't run ground wires. When I asked why, they said "No need. Electricity different in Thailand". I insisted they ground the units. With the amount of rainfall and lightning they get here, I was astounded at their ignorance.
  10. The only correct info on this thread is from Dr. Jack. Everyone else, please refrain from posting when you don't know what you're talking about.
  11. I wasted the most time reading this post.
  12. "I am pretty sure this is a problem with their website." ????
  13. The only part I agree with is "cannabis must be of high quality."
  14. Return policies in Thailand are vastly different from the West. You have to be polite but firm. If that doesn't work, raise holy hell. I bought a convection oven at Global. The salesman supposedly checked it out in the backroom. When taking it to my car, I could hear broken glass inside. Went back in, they opened it and found the bulb was broken. Told me I would have to wait 2 weeks for a refund to be issued. Calmly explained I never got out of the parking lot. Further more, I used a credit card so the transaction could be cancelled. Called out manager after manager, until I finally lost it and yelled, "Look. I just bought this damn thing 10 minutes ago. If you don't know how to void a sale, I'll show you. But I'm not leaving." Suddenly, the tide changed. They voided the sale and gave me a bunch of junk promo items to make up for the trouble. The standard advice to farangs is 'keep cool' 'don't raise your voice' etc. And I agree. Until you can see they are screwing with you.
  15. You can't fairly compare a Mercedes to a Toyota. And you can't compare top shelf flowers to brickweed. The difference in quality demands a difference in cost that many of us are willing to pay.
