  1. 5 bhat..

10 baht actually, representing 50 percent more than the actual current local market price.

Here we go.... a percentage calculation to make it seem far worse....like would you ever pay 3 baht for something normally priced at 2 baht. You have to deal with these "massive" percentage fluctuations in Cosy Beach all the time.

I would see it as a measly 10 baht more, not a fifty percent hike. Whether I'd pay the 50% difference or not would depend on how easy the same quality of fruit could be found in the area for the lower price or not.

Another thing you may consider. Fruit is one commodity which fluctuates in price more than most. For example, I've seen fresh coconuts range from 10 baht to 35 baht in the course of a year. My goodness! A 350% difference! Many examples come to mind... long kong: 50 to 125 or more per kilo is another good example. Mangoes fluctuate significantly too.

I cant belive this coming from you, Tropo.

What is this place coming to.

  2. Yes, I am feeling more violence in the air.

    I can't speak for others.

I see another poster feels it too.

It might make an interesting poll question but I won't do it as I reckon it would be seen as too sensitive a subject, especially now.

Thais have become very sensitive to many things.

    Anyone know why ?

Do Thais know why ? cheesy.gif

Aggression now seems on many a Thai mind. Just look at some of the recent shootings. Mostly for trivial matters.

No. But they feel now they can finally drop the mask of civility, and feel free to act upon how they have always felt.

    No.

Fruit price of street vendors never fluctuates, you must know that.

  4. Fine. We disagree then. Easy or hard every time you reveal your minority orientation to a new person you are coming out.

My minority orientation in Thailand - or even on ThaiVisa - is that I am German. I don't feel like coming out when revealing that.

The reason is that I don't think it's anything I need apologize for. Think about that for a while before replying.

All of us here are non Thai. This thread is about West, yes? Never mind Thailand.

  5. In my bubble, it's every gay person in my home country that enjoys full equality.

The pressure associated with being gay is enormous and to add to that by saying they "should come out" is frankly idiotic.

In Canada there is some sort of pressure to come out? Where in Canada, please? In Ont, BC, Quebec?

You can't be serious! In 2002 being gay in Toronto was as easy as easy as anything. I lived in TO at the time. Maybe it was difficult for some guys, but in 2002 it was a non issue in Toronto. I was there.

If you wish to argue w OP, and clearly you do (different TV teams and all, like in 8th grade) you have to come up with something better than Toronto in 2002.

And we have 2012 now, it is a non issue for many gay guys, but it is not pressure from society, these are pressures from peers, friends.

  6. Someone who doesn't agree with a lot of what you say. If you expect me to agree with you just because we're both gay then I'm afraid you're out of luck. I don't 'purposely try to give you a hard time'. I just express my own opinions. Am I not allowed to do that? Do you want to take my freedom to speak away from me?

No. I dont want you to agree or disagree with me.

I find you unpleasant, and lacking. I would prefer you not address me, that is all.

  7. What if you are not gay...but just like to play with it a little bit.

    Asking for a friend...

Impossible to answer. If you're not gay there is nothing to come out about. However many people who become aware of your play may conclude you are gay. There's a huge range from people who identify as bisexual to straight guys on the down low.

Sent from my Lenovo S820_ROW using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Actually that confuses me a little....if a straight guy plays with a guy, how can he be claiming straightness ?

If a straight guy plays with another guy, he is 100% like all other straight guys. Please don't worry about your friend, he is just a guy.

  8. Forgot something: No, JT, I don't think that gay people will have to come out in an ideal society. Some men like women, some men like men, and in an ideal society, every kid will know some gay peoples, for example in the family or celebs or what. That's one thing I like about the series "Modern Family". And so, if someone finds out he or she like people of the same sex, it is no issue, they just live it.

I can't stand Modern Family for the very same reason you like it.

We, gay men, are a reduced to be a caricature, comic relief, yet again. Do you know any gay couple, such as in Modern Family? I dont.

We are a joke for straight viewing audience. Clowns to amuse viewers. God forbid we are depicted as people just like everybody else, same worries, same joys.

There is a new HBO show now, 'Looking', that shows us as normal humans. Good show, dl it if you can.

Long time ago there was a show on HBO, The Wire, often quoted as best TV show of all time, along with The Sopranos. There was a character, Omar in The Wire.. He is closer to some of the gay men I know

Really? You know gangster drug dealers who carry sawn-off shotguns around and steal drugs from other dealers and you're proposing that they're 'people just like everybody else'? I hope you don't expect us other gay folks to follow their fine example cheesy.gif

Did I not ask you politely about a month ago not to quote, nor address me?

It was a polite request. Maybe you could find it in your heart to oblige me?

Or do you lack all basic manners?

This is a public forum. If you want a place to post where only those who agree with you post then better start your own.

No, if u respected my request, you would stop. I know I would. The moment fellow user requested me to not address him, I would stop.

I think you purposfully try to give me hard time, and that is something not done in polite society, and it should not be done here on ThaiVisa.

What kind of person does something like that?

  9. Some of us already have equality in our home country.

There is NO need to come out if the person feels pressure in doing so, it's not a club they're joining that full disclosure is a requirement, it's private and it's an individuals choice.

    Sexuality doesn't define a person.

I respect people's privacy & I'm glad I never had an influence in my life saying "I must".

    OT and I apologise.

How long is this infantile game of 'who is friends with who, and 'Im gonna side with my side no matter what' gonna go on in gay sub forum, I wonder.

It ruins this sub forum, we all see this, no? Why keep on going at it? Dont u guys see we all lose? Why keep on going? I just dont understand.. We should keep together.. Instead we have the most confrontational sub forum on TV.

Maybe not shot guns in the middle of the day, under a long coat, but at night, yes, does a hand gun count to you?

I do know guys like Omar, except they are white, and their stories maybe slightly less colourful. But they are tuff guys, and they are into guys.

    Fair enough for u?

  12. What if you are not gay...but just like to play with it a little bit.

    Asking for a friend...

Your friend should not make an issue out of it.

Many, many guys under 25 play as they go, especially guys who go to clubs, straight clubs, all the time.. even in Eastern Europe it has become a norm, it is so acceptable, no need to bring it up in conversation even, other than sharing details with close friends.

There are no gay clubs in some East Europe countries, cos they became deserted, the time for them to be there is over.

It has changed from something to hide and deny, to something almost boring and not worth mentioning in 4-5 years.. that is a fast change of attitudes of young people. And that is Eastern europe, never mind Sweden, Denmark, Germany and rest of Western Europe.

What is this gay couple in Modern Family, do you know anybody like them? To me they seem retarded. I admit, I have only watched season 1, cant take this embarrassing mediocrity more than couple of episodes.

In Modern Family, we, gay men are reduced to cute, harmless weirdos in pink shirts.

  14. Too late to edit my post, wanted to add, please read, never has a hugely prestiguos media outlet put so bluntly, and accurately, what a mistake it was for IOC to give Olimpics to Russia,

WP desctibes todays Russia as 'thugocracy', and article uses lines like:

'Sochi already is a catastrophe, and if it becomes a tragedy too, it will be because the International Olympic Committee has become the tool of colossal authoritarian branding, to borrow a phrase from Russia scholar Leon Aron.'

  15. Interesting article in WaPo,

right now a headline at Huffpost:

'The Olympics aren’t supposed to kill people. They’re supposed to exalt them. But it’s too late to take the dangerous, despoiling Winter Games away from the thugocracy that is Vladimir Putin’s Russian regime, so the only option is to count on the man’s bulging biceps and hope it’s an adequate “ring of steel” that can keep people safe in Sochi. It’s a cold hard fact that these Olympics have become an agent of death.'

  16. Nonsense. There are principles worth fighting over. 10 baht is not one of them.

    No.

You either have principles, or you don't. Amount has nothing to do with it.

    5 baht, 10 baht, 1000 baht, doesn't make a difference.

Besides, there was no fighting, foreigner was threatened with violence, he wisely backed off. But knowing he was being scammed, he was standing by his principles, only gave up after threat of violence, you in similar situation would have forgotten your principles, cos it was just 5 baht.

  17. Val get a life. You are either a cheap Charlie or married to a Thai with very limited options. Stop attacking kiwi for sharing his experience. Look at the tha governments own report advising all citizens to wear masks because the sir quality is hazaderous. Also look at the Thai government report on water with running sewers into most waterways along with oil and manufacturing waste. I can not walk the beach or roads of pattaya without having to shower as my legs have black sut on them.why is that? We are breathing that in val. Safety issues abound as mentioned over and over again. From 6 ft deep holes in toads and sidewalks to building issues to live electric wires hanging down. The most refi cultus thing I saw on tele last night pattaya wants to attract disabled tourist. I know people here in chairs and to say they are limited on what and where they go without significant help or dangerously having to wheel in the roads with motorbikes coming right on top of them. If pattaya tourism is going to continue advertising luxury hotels, spas, restaurants and now handicapped friendly there will be an enormous back lash. They are charging western prices in many of these places cost more then the capitals of Europe. One place started at $450 a night and numerous places charging $250 plus a night. There are lovely condos and hotels but once you step out the infrastructure is dangerous from any health and safety measure.Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect Thailand

Fabulousheart, I have a life, very nice life.

You say I am attacking OP, pls point out a single attack!

I am not attacking OP, I am pointing out he has no clue what he is talking about, that is not attacking. He simply does not know anything about Pattaya after being here few days.

Please refrain from calling me names, I believe you have no business calling me anything, other than my TV nick, do not call me 'cheap charly', I think we have rules here.

In every post now you keep repeating people who live here have no options. Tell me please, how long have you lived in Pattaya! How many people you know, that makes you an authority?

Let me refresh your memory, Fabulousheart! Less than a week ago you started a topic 'Thappraya Road Near Jomtien', yes?

    Here:

    Posted 2014-01-16 13:58:04 by Fabulousheart:

    Quote:

'I have been here over a month now and all of the bi holes that where dug on the side walks 3 months ago are still dangerously there. Why do they did many giant holes on both sides of the street and leave them open..'

    End quote.

So over a month huh? You took pics of some road works, and you were genuinely puzzled as to why are the holes at sidewalk not covered. Well, a resident of Pattaya would not post such a question, maybe as an observation, but not to look for answers.

I understand your curiousity about local road works, but any Pattaya resident has long given up asking those kinds of questions.

You dont live here, do you?

Yet you keep criticising the town, and our residents, agreeing w OP, who was here few days, and you about1 month.

    There! You dont know anything.

In every post you keep repeating about Pattaya residents having 'limited options'. How do you know what options we have? How can you be an expert, after 1 month here?

You telling me to get a life, while you take a camera, take photos of some unfinished roadwork, some holes on Trappya, and post it here, sincerely wondering how can this be! lol

You should have seen how Thrappya rd took nearly 3 years to pave and rebuild about 1 km of road. But you weren't here. Yet you seem know what Pattaya is all about, and who are people who live here.

Let me sum it up, just like OP, you don't know anything about Pattaya, and people who live here.

Edit, here is your thread from less than a week ago, first line is how you have now been here over 1 month:

  18. Birth rate really is low. Most Russians are struggling to pay their bills, in supermarkets people are carefully checking prices for food, cos if not careful, they may go hungry before next pay day. That is the reason for low birth rate.

Russians are educated, they don't have the means to support their children, they know it very well, so the birth rate is low.

What do gay people have to with this is mystery. I wish Vladimir would elaborate how are gay people to blame for birth rate. Does he believe Russia is so tensly packed by gay couples, the birth rate keeps declining because half or most of all Russian males are having sex with other men? lol

  19. Sony Vaio Pro 11 and Pro 13 are as nice as Macbooks, Vaio Pro 11 is just as thin as Mackbook Air, carbon fibre and Al, 800 grams..

If only it didn't come with Win8 preinstalled.. You can install Win7, Sony website even offers drivers, but some functions won't work with 7.

And the stupid touch screen! Why would I want to touch the display, when there is full keyboard, and nice large trackpad.

Black version of Pro 11 is so nice, I can't think of anything nicer really.

Pro series replacesd Vaio Z laptop, 2 years ago Z was Sony flagship notebook, with i7 processor it cost 95.000 baht just 16 month ago, that hurts. But Pro 11 w i5 and 4Gb ram is 35.000 baht, not much for what you get, except the horrible Win8, which never should have been used as notebooks os, tablets and phones only.

Guys from Bangkok, have you seen Pro 11 in Pantip, and if so, how much are they asking? I haven't been to Pantip for 3 months, didn't see any Sony Pro laptops then. But maybe there are now? Or other IT malls maybe?

Pro 11 with i5, 4gb ram, 128 Gb ssd is 35.900 in Sony Center, there must be other places that sell them?
