I almost bought a room that size in Waikiki Hawaii about 25 years ago - now has gone sky high. Jomtien reminds me of early Hawaii prices. I got a 38 sq meter condo at VT 1 I love that place. The pool is really nice too.
- think = buying a hotel room.
Comparing Jomtien to Hawaii - I've heard it all now!
There are people who live in caravans and trailer parks who seem to manage alright. It's not the size that counts, it the way the space is utilised.
Rattling around in a massive apartment might be good for the ego, if you really have friends who are impressed by the size of your extension, maybe you need to get out more. Hotel rooms are usually well designed and equipped, small but functional - and really if you want to see families living in tiny rooms go visit a slum.

Quality control issues in Thailand. Who'd have thought!

You might also consider hanging on a bit, do some more research and then get a new PC with Windows 8 already installed.

I think it's rather forward thinking that Phuket should appoint a Governor of Vice.
Perfect, perhaps Pattaya will follow suite?

Hahahahaha The best option, I find, is never post if you've recently had a drink!

It takes a highly unethical company to turn a wage hike into lower labor costs in this fashion.
Companies breaking the labor laws - such as this one - should be charged and held accountable.
Period.
You are missing the point. This is less about companies breaking labour laws and more about companies relocating to other Asian Countries not encumbered with such legislation.
This is one of the straws that will break the back of manufacturing. Happened in the UK after the second World WAR, when the socialists decided that labour was too cheap, the UK lost it's great manufacturing base to overseas Countries who were desperate for the work.

One of the marvelous things about Thailand is that the rural poor have tended to stay on the land in large numbers avoiding Bangkok becoming like Bombay, Kolkata, Mexico City or Caracas with the attendant intractable slum problem.
Sorry you obviously don't live in Bangkok - the place is full of slums! Look around!

Posting from Hong Kong . English ( heavily accented and vovabulated with ra vernacular) ,Pasa Isan , Thai and Cantonese are all used around my family . My son mastered the art of listening and imitation very early on , we relocated 3 times in as many years , and he got by on improving these skills . Now at age 6 he is learning the importance of the written word . The school he now attends has an English and Chinese language system , but I will get him back on track with the Thai language by the end of this year . He loves the Chinese characters although he still struggles with the English written word . Crickey it's not easy being a youngster these days .
Get him to stick with a language that will be useful. Unless he will live in Thailand Thai is useless!

Hmmm...l two kids in the UK which you appear to have abandoned. Or are you also supporting them?

It would appear that your router is not in fact a wireless router.
To set up a wireless LAN (Local Area Network) you will need a wireless router.

I suspect this is more about proletariat people coming to Thailand, who have absolutely no experience of managing domestic help.
A maid should be treated as an extended member of the family, who needs just as much leadership as one's children.
Well, yes on the second part, a lot of communication is necessary. But a member of an extended family.. no. They're an employee. And indeed employees need leadership, respect, training, consistency in how they're tasked, etc.
So children don't need respect, training, consistency in how they are tasked, etc? I treat my employees in the same way that I treat my family and friends. The only difference is that I pay them. You should try it!

I don't see how the OP can just 'get' an Irish passport for a baby born in a foreign Country, to an unmarried mother? Will the embassy demand a DNA test or will they just take the OP's word that the baby is his?
Somehow I doubt it, but I have no experience in these matters. Any one who has?

You really have to love the fact that Cobra comes on here boasting about how he breaks the Law, justifies it because so do many others, and WE are the idiots for explaining the legalities!
AND because I haven't owned a property here, I should shut the <deleted> up and keep my opinion to myself. I love Thailand.
*sigh* Never argue with an idiot, he will beat you with experience! Keep forgetting that one!
-
if it is illegal, you think that the lawyer will be stupid enough to do it?
Is that a rhetorical question? How long have you been in Thailand to ask such a dumb question? You seriously believe lawyers here are all 100% honest and not a stupid one amongst them?
I have never bought property in Thailand, I have always rented. I certainly would not buy land/property in the name of a proxy - be it a person or a 'company'.
The OP asked a serious question, and I am trying to give a legal perspective, not some shady advice from a dodgy character in an ex-pat bar.

"We have to stick together because problems will sometimes arise and cooperation from the operator is needed for efficient solutions,"
*big sigh of relief* Bloody Hell that was close chaps, nearly had to go through a public scrutiny which means less money for us all! Imagine all that TRANSPARENCY! Be still my beating heart!
-
So the more practical way is to set up a company through a legal firm, and they will get 2 dummies to be the shareholders of the company (do not use your own thai friends as shareholders) and presigned the transfer form and to be kept by you, this is what thousands of foreigners are doing it depite all the news about clamping down foreigners buying properties, I think the authorities are more concern about them buying land than a mere 5 million baht house.
Which bit are you struggling with Cobra? Setting up a company to usurp Thai Law over foreign land ownership is ILLEGAL. The fact that people do it, and take the financial risk, doesn't make it right.
-
Yes I don't know what the obsession some people have with the law around here, not as if it's got any connection with morality half the time.
You pays your money and take your chance, up to you.
As long as people are fully aware of the risks and aren't taking advice on what to do from dodgy Thais.
Dodgy Thais......hmm you might want to rethink that phrase!

Hello Dolly,
the laptop is not a windows Vista, that is just the Operating system, quite possibly the worst microsoft ever released (except for WinME).
I would suggest a netbook by Acer, or Samsung or if you are feeling really generous Sony.
Max out the RAM, and at least 320 gig HD. Make sure the Operating system is Windows 7 and try and get an office package thrown in for good measure.
-
That's what I thought.
-
A number of choices really. Dry them everyday in the sunshine. Squirt rubbing alcohol over them, or even place them in the freezer for 24 hours.
-
Actually have a clue. Trying to help, sorry.
What *is* your experience in conveyancing property in Thailand exactly?
-
Yes you are correct, lets just shut up about the FACT that if a company is set up to own land through proxy directors, it is 100% illegal.
No worries then.
Oh, except that it's 100% illegal to form a Company to usurp Thai Law with regard to Land ownership.

Need Replacement Sony Vaio Screen
in IT and Computers
Posted
I would suggest that you visit Pantip Plaza, as they have a Sony official merchant there, as well as likely cheaper solutions.
I am pretty sure that the screen is one of the most expensive components of a laptop, so if it's an old version, you might just as well buy a new one - but check the repair costs and make you own mind up.
