I can't think of anything on the highway that fits the bill. There are options in town, though.

If you decide you want to come on into town, let us know. We can recommend some places. If you have trouble finding your way around CR, I can probably meet you on the highway and show you the easy way into and out of town.

There are a couple of places near the old airport in town. If you stay there, you can walk the dogs on the old airport runway. They have quite the gathering of walkers and such every morning and evening and some people take their dogs. You would also be near Barry's famous hamburger place. He has outdoor seating so you could probably keep the dogs close by while you had dinner.

Keep in mind that the CR Hash House Harriers meet the third Saturday of every month(I think) for their walk/run. So, if you schedule your return from Mae Sai right, you and your dogs could join us for that walk. You can pm Soap for details about the August Hash.

  2. Meeting time and place:

Sunday, 1:30 p.m., in front of the old jail. "At the Saturday night Walking Street area, near where the food court and stage is".

Everyone welcome. Looks like we might be able to drag woralak and his better half along as well. I suspect several of us will meet at Tree House for lunch prior to the meeting time.

PM us with any need for clarification.

I'll be there. About how long a ride?

Looks like about ten or 15 minutes. I believe it is within a couple of kilometers of Rim Kok resort. The wife just spoke to them and they gave us good directions. We will do a test run this afternoon or tomorrow morning so we don't waste anyone's time. The lady says they have 18 children on hand right now.

Seriously, you might try the TV Classifieds. Top of every page, free, and according to more than a few friends who are not affiliated with TV- it works.

    Good Luck.

The free TV ads do seem to work quite well. The wife advertises her business on it and it makes her a little money every month. She actually gets calls from Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore concerning the products she sells. So, not only the locals are looking at it. I'm surprised that more Thai businesses don't advertise on it.

  4. It has been a good few last days. Got the steel roof installed on the wife's new "external kitchen". We all have two kitchens. don't we? Thanks to a decent neighbor, who has been pretty good help. Sometimes, it just takes a helping hand to get us motivated. Unfortunately, now that the roof is on, there is a whole slew of projects that involve getting the new kitchen laid out and set up "just right". Ha! I'll never get caught up. Counters, sinks, plumbing, wiring, shelving, doors, windows........

  5. I've found one that works for now, the desk drawer is a bit of a treasure trove, especially towards the back.

On offer I have an LG OneTouch Recording SuperMulti Video to Disk thingy.

I've never used it because I could never work it out. I thought it was a simple external DVD burner but it's not.

Cost me 2500B 3 years ago.

    Any offer considered.

    Away all next week.

Sorry Scea. Found one controller and the wife said "Oh, good. I need that mouse." End of story.

  6. Trek 4300 Mountain bike, very good condition = 10,500baht ovno

It's 22.5 inches so only suitable for the taller gents that reside in CR, it's from 2008 but serviced/cleaned regularly. It will be serviced/cleaned again prior to sale.

    Great bike for a healthy lifestyle and for exploring CR and as it's almost the dry, cool season the perfect time to buy it too. There is a link to the bike below (the only one I could find) which has all the specs but the main points are;

Front suspension (which can be locked)

    24 gears

    Black/Silver

    Many parts are Bontrager

Front and rear 'cats eye' lights included

    PM me if interested

Good deal on the bike. Too big for me and I already bought my ride a year and half ago. But someone is looking for your bike.

  8. It is looking like Sunday, after lunch, will be the time to meet and head out. If anyone has any input on that, let us hear it. Scorpio, you good with that? Any scheduling adjustments can be arranged.

  9. The wife is telling me that there is a farm/restaurant close by Wang Chai or closer to Teng. I'll get the details and post them. She says you can buy live and take them home or they will prepare them at the restuarant. She has never been there but someone else told her about the place.

There are a few good ones out thoeng way, but suspect there are a few good ones closer by also.

The farm the wife is telling me about is out jubby's way. Theung. Not sure exactly where that is. But she is told that is where the prawns at the Prawn Restaurant come from and is where most of the prawns sold in CR come from. She says if you stop near that town and ask, anyone you talk to will be able to point you in the right direction. So, maybe jubby has better details.

  10. I looked at the map key. Prawn Farm and Prawn Restaurant are actually both the same restaurant, as far as I can tell and neither one of them are located correctly on the map. The restaurant is actually right at the end of the road or street, Wat Mai Na Khai 3, not the main Wat road. So, from 1211, take Hong Lee towards the river until you get to Wat Mai Na Khai 3, turn left, go to end, you're looking at it. Just proceed into the long driveway in front of you, instead of turning onto the main road left or right. Restaurant is at the end of that driveway, on the left, parking on the right.

Also keep in mind, By Heart Restaurant and Guest House is on Wat Mai Na Khai 3, on the right about halfway between the prawn place and Hong Lee. Great place for lunch or dinner and you can order mashed potatoes and gravy with several of their western style dishes.

    LOTS of edits here.

  11. Okay. Just looked up the location that you reference in your post. That is a restaurant that we frequent often enough. I didn't know the name of the road it is on. But they are famous with Thais in CR for their parwn dishes and with good reason. You order so many kilos of prawns and then tell them what dishes you want them in. They do a good job there.

I have never heard it referred to as a prawn farm, though. The Thai name of that restaurant Song Boa Kung. They order their prawns in fresh every day but they don't produce any.

Anyway, I'll get back here with better info for a prawn farm.

  13. It's a few kms away in the mountains. I liked it because it was a good example of mountain land usage, a small valley bottom turned into rice fields.

Oops! I gotta comment on this one. "small valley bottom". What a wonderful phrase.

  14. That trip will go ahead Lizard. As sure as I've got an hole in my @$ (too much time sitting on fences I suppose) :)

Anyway, I'm outta here. Got grass to cut. .................. someone elses Bloody Grass :(

I gotta go now, too. My wife is expecting some production here today. See ya'll later.

  15. If anyone wants to drop off any fruit, boxed milk or anything else to go this weekend, post here or PM jubby or myself. I can arrange to pick up if need be. Other than that, I can provide you with the location of my home, which is on the pinned Google map. If others want to go, we can decide on a day, time and meeting place. My schedule is flexible. All comers welcome.

I thank you for your reply.

You have hit the nail right on the head.

All i was trying to find out if any local's really know this place.

    Obviously we never know that.

Time will tell if the guys can arrange a ride to this place

I also thank all the responses to my original post. :)

Thanks to you for the original topic. Good one. We'll let you know what we find. It is pretty easy to get answers about these things. Just have to burn a little petrol.

  17. Not one mention about my Chicken Legs Guys. :D

But very wise words from both Kd & scea nontheless

I was thinking along the same lines for the motorcy group if it ever takes off.

I'm up for that reccy trip Kd. I dont have anything planned for the weekend. maybe I can take my Kids also.

I'm sure I can contribute even without my Christain or Bhuddhism doctrine. Did I get the spelling right this time ?

Well, I didn't really notice your legs when we met, but even if you have got chicken legs, I'm sure someone will still love you!

What are you going on about, Biff? I recall you eying his legs and then eying the chicken legs on your plate when we all met at Rimkok for lunch? Did you think we din't see that?

Good that you're going and taking the kids. That means you can haul the fruit in the truck or car and the wife and I can ride the motorcycle.

No, you screwed up the spelling, again.

  20. All the flaming here was done by jingjoe, now conveniently removed.

I live among hillstribe people and am fully aware that few are them are Buddhists. My non-Thai neighbours are predominantly Christian or animist.

I've found that the Thai Buddhists here are tolerant of minorities and the monks are generally fine people.

I find it difficult to condemn them for smoking and buying the occasional lottery ticket when they are compared to some of the clergy of other religions.

I've never at any stage suggested the children referred to here were at risk or undeserving of charity. I don't doubt that the Christians are making a better life for the majority of them.

    Agreed.
