  1. Could ths be the function of the XY Xel Modem they provided?

Possibly, or it could be the port/port card/shelf in the basement of your condo. The modem in your home would need to be matched (proven to inter-operate successfully) with the modem in the VDSL shelf, and configured. Maybe best to contact True Online directly?

  2. That doesn't make any sense.

Nor should it unless you are a marketing professional.

Often you want promotions to be focused, targeted, out of sight of competitors, limited in time/scope and measurable. Slapping anything/everything up on a web page, and instantaneously translating it to English, may make more sense to you, but then it wouldn't satisfy the true goals of a promotion.

  3. There have been a gazillion threads on this subject.

International bandwidth is limited, but links to Singapore may be a bit more "free" currently.

Some people report being able to fully utilize higher bandwidth local access connections, through the use of proxies, VPNs or with more "simple" applications, or by subscribing to "business" oriented services.

Having a higher bandwidth local connection may, or may not, make sense for you specifically. A lot will depend on your application requirements.

You can use a speed testing service like testmy.net to get a feel for actual international bandwidth.

As more and more people stream higher quality video (NetFlix, Hulu, HBOGo, et al.) from outside Thailand, contention will only increase.

  4. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/708991-sim-topup-validity-of-1-year-now-possible/

I recently did 12 top-ups, for a friend, at a free-standing machine (10 baht value plus 2 baht fee, so 144 baht in total), and each top-up added 30 days cumulative for a total of the maximum of 365 days - he had some residual days.

The only three ways I can see

Assuming you have IR enabled and can get a signal wherever, you could bring small denomination scratch (TrueMoney) cards?

  5. All three major service providers have a ton of promotions right now, including many "jumbo, double, triple data" promotions. Typically these are for new post-paid customers, but they are often extended to existing customers. The additional data allotments are for periods ranging from the 3 to 12 months. There are some pre-paid promotions as well. Honestly it is challenging to keep up with all the promotions; I was in a DTAC shop last week and counted 52 separate on-going "promotions" for post-paid customers. I saw a Thai blog yesterday which had 175 total promotions (pre- and post-paid) for DTAC.

I don't think it is possible to keep their websites updated so maybe best to stop by a shop occasionally to grab a brochure, or check their FB pages?

  6. An alternative would be to create a Google Voice account that uses a permanent US phone number

Unfortunately this will not work, at least it does not work for me using BofA. Banks using SMS OTP services in the U.S. only interface with recognized mobile service providers, and may not deliver SMSes internationally. T-Mobile now roams to Thailand so I can get BofA SMS OTPs here. AFAIK, AIS, DTAC and TrueMove H do not block incoming international SMSes, I receive several each day.

The OP will have to share more details, specifically the bank.

  7. AIS, DTAC and TrueMove all have shops at Suvarnabhumi/Bangkok International Airport, on level 2/Arrivals just outside the Customs exit. Maybe stop there to purchase a SIM, add value and subscribe to a mobile data plan, if you need one.

Or just wait until you get to Korat and ask local family to assist; they will know the best options.

Calls within Thailand will be 1 ~ 2 baht/min, a decent mobile data plan will be 450 ~ 800 baht/30 days, and calls back to Israel can range from 4 to 30 baht/min, depending on the type of connection used. Using CAT 009 low-cost (009 972 nnnn nnnn) would be 4 baht/min to a fixed line and 6 baht/min to a mobile.

All your applications will sync/work with the internet.

I'm guessing your phones are unlocked, and can accept a SIM. If so, any Thai SIM will work fine.

On your phones, go to Settings, scroll down to About phone, tell us the Model number.

Which mobile service provider do you currently use in Israel?

  8. I figured Or Tor Kor Market would have it, but I'm hoping to find somewhere in central Bangkok where I can pick some up once or twice a week.

Well it would be easy enough to go to Or Tor Kor once, buy different products, talk to people, then contact the suppliers directly.

Note that there was also a link to http://www.yanafarm.com/ in that article.

And any Thai person should be able to help you find a lot more information in less than 10 seconds, just have them type goats milk in Thai, in case that wasn't overly obvious.

  9. U.S. officials have said the release of the cables - State Department cables - was the most damaging leak by Pfc. Manning, causing diplomatic headaches around the globe as the private stances of allied nations—which sometimes differed from public comments—were laid bare.

For causing headaches and embarrassment he gets 35 years. Makes sense to me.

As more and more information gets released, about our war crimes, there is no doubt that Manning will eventually be granted clemency.

  10. During Pvt. Bradley's sentencing, a senior military official clearly stated that the leaks did not result in the deaths of any individuals. Yes, they made the U.S. look bad in so many ways, but as with most "top secret" documents/information, all they really illustrated was our country's misguided Iraq invasion. So comparing him to a murderer, firing an AK-47 into a crowd seems a bit over the top.

The largest intelligence leak in U.S. history, disclosed by Pfc. Bradley Manning to WikiLeaks, did not lead to the deaths of any military sources, the government's first sentencing witness testified Wednesday.

  11. Is this what you would normally expect to see with routine planned maintenance?

No clue, I am not a rail enthusiast, nor do I portray one on TV.

There are some RFPs (on line) issued by the SRTET mentioning brakes and bearings so one hopes the brakes and bearings hold out on those sets still in use. thumbsup.gif

There has also been some on-going controversy regarding the tunnel design at the airport causing premature wearing on overhead components, but those seemed to wear out within a few months so suspect those may have been replaced/repaired a few times since?

am i currently able to take a train from praya thai to suvanabhumi?

    Yes, City Line only.

    http://www.srtet.co.th/th/

  12. I read the repair news as inferring that all nine (9) sets: five (5) three-car City Line, and four (4) four-car Express line, would be "repaired". Repairs are said to take one to two months for each of the nine sets.

One assumes there is less wear and tear on the Express trains, so those would be the last sets to be repaired?

I assume the fourth carriage, ostensibly to be used for CAT/airline luggage, is not being used for passengers during City Line substitutions?

With Express line service to Makkasan (only during the year + long repair period) on 60 minute headways I assume they'll need just a single set?

  13. In which case I'd eat the cat first.

    Maybe milk it first?

I have seen fresh goat's milk in Or Tor Kor market in Chatuchuk, and organic-ish Thai-style fresh/wet market, easily access from the MRT (Subway: Khamphaeng Phet station, exit #3).

    Found this old article: http://www.manager.co.th/IHT/ViewNews.aspx?NewsID=9490000087915

You could also ask a Thai friend/colleague to do a quick search of some Thai food/social forums where I'm sure they'll get the detail you need in less than 60 seconds.

  14. Are you asking about fixed-line broadband?

CAT, TOT and smaller ISPs all offer services, but your specifc location may be limited to a single provider/access technology/offer.

Prices range from 599 baht to 2,500 baht and higher depending on access technology, speed, service levels.

  15. I just wonder if some airline traffic or revenue manager somewhere has done a computer analysis of this

    In a word, Yes.

Each airline devotes a lot of brains and processing power to yield/fleet/route management.

Each route/city-pair has varying "potential", while (re-)configuring an aircraft can take a long time and require significant capital expense, but you then lose flexibility re: aircraft deployment. And customers get peeved with aircraft substitutions utilizing perceived inferior hard product.

Most airlines currently handle the OP's "idea" with multi-bucket business class inventory offering most restrictive/least expensive buckets like "Z", which also have the most stringent APEX requirements, up through P, J, D and C (these can vary by airline). They'll also over-sell.

Profitability is, broadly speaking, managed by maximizing RASM, and minimizing CASM.

  16. For a bit of supporting info. have a look at the picture.

Good point, and one which provides some insight to the variability in installation costs. As you need a line-of-sight to the serving tower, which could be ~ 15 Km away, you'll obviously need a tower/mast at your home which supports that requirement. Some can see the tower from the second-floor bedroom or roof of their house, while others may have to construct a 15 m tall mast. I've also seen some installations on bamboo poles.

  17. Equipment needs to be installed on the tower as well.

There may have been regional promotions, waiving or reducing the installation fees?

Some of the fees mentioned may also represent equipment deposit.

You could look through sites like adslthailand, pantip, overclockzone using Google Translate. Also look at some of the past threads here.

I found this receipt on the TOT Wi-NET Facebook Club page, it shows 3,745 baht for installation.
