  1. From DTAC's iRefill page

    Dear Valued Customers,

iRefill is temporary out of service for system maintenance

    from 9th December 2013 until 10.00 hrs on 10th December 2013

Refill services via Happy Refill cards and Happy Online Retailers are still available to serve you.

    We apologize for the inconvenience.

So, presumably after 10:00 AM tomorrow (Tuesday, 10 Dec.) Bangkok time, you could add value (and validity) using any credit card.

Or just ask a friend to pop round a 7/11 and add money to your number.

Or maybe just send an email to:

explain your situation, ask if they can apply the "Day Giveaway" service for you - just give them as much detail as possible: number, name, how many days, authorize them to deduct the payment.

(Pay 2 baht for 30 days, 6 baht for 90 days, and 12 baht for 180 days)

Have you switched from DTAC/Happy to Tri-Net yet?

They've revamped the eServices web portal, I used to use my 10-digit phone number and a 4-digit PIN, but I had to re-register last month, and now use the same 10-digit telephone number but had to create a more robust PIN.

edited to add: Your screen grab appears to come from the new web-services portal.

  2. I just saw an ad on Thai TV (Ch. 3) for the True Telecommunications Growth Infrastructure Fund, so it looks like they are pre-marketing this fund to the general public between today and 27 Dec. when it is supposed to list. (The BTS/Skytrain is did a similar thing earlier this year - BTS Rail Mass Transit Growth Infrastructure Fund, a fund backed by fare revenues from Bangkok’s SkyTrain.)

Definitely good news as this will give True the cash they need to build out 2100 MHz 3G/LTE. Bet Ericsson is happy. ;)

True Infrastructure Fund Seeks $1.8 Billion From Thailand IPO

True Telecommunications Growth Infrastructure Fund, backed by Thai billionaire Dhanin Chearavanont’s True Corp. Pcl, is seeking $1.8 billion in the country’s second-largest initial public offering.
The fund is offering as many as 4.76 billion units at 10 baht apiece to institutional and retail investors, according to terms for the deal obtained by Bloomberg News. Bangkok-based True Corp., operator of Thailand’s third-largest cellular network, will buy 1 billion units and hold at least 18 percent of the fund, the document shows.
Telecom IPO Would Be Thailand's Second Biggest
Thailand's richest man, Dhanin Chearavanont, is gearing up for an initial public offering of some of his telecommunications assets this week, in a nearly $1.6 billion deal that would be the country's second-biggest IPO ever.
Mr. Dhanin's bankers have started talking to institutional investors interested in buying units in the IPO of True Telecommunications Growth Infrastructure Fund, people with knowledge of the matter said Monday. True Telecommunications, which will be a trust listing, will be carved out from Mr. Dhanin's telecom firm True Corp., which is one of the country's top-three telecom operators providing broadband Internet, mobile phone, and pay-television services.
    True test for Thai IPOs
True Corp is poised to complete Thailand’s second infrastructure trust IPO, even though anti-government protests on the streets in Bangkok have forced one equity deal out of the market. The telecoms company expects to raise up to Bt47.6bn (US$1.5bn) from the IPO of True Telecommunications Growth Infrastructure Trust, which will feature some of True’s telecom assets, including towers and fibre-optic networks.
The deal is coming amid turbulent market conditions due to mass protests against Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra and her government. Despite the unrest, initial domestic demand for True GIF was said to be extremely strong. While there was some good interest from foreign investors and big early orders, no one was willing to sign up as a cornerstone investor and commit to a lock-up period. The absence of a cornerstone tranche is unusual for a deal of this size in Asia.
  3. I have Android 4.1.2. and followed the above instructions but no "Spell checker" I have predictive text but prefer a windows type spell checker and thought that I would find it following your advice but no such luck.

    Yeah, I'm on Android 4.4.

Can't remember what 4.1.2 is like, pretty sure there was a spell checker but that was ages ago. Do you have a Google Keyboard? Maybe drill down into that? Or just look on the interwebs to see what you can do with 4.1.2

FWIW, I mostly use speech to text for input; much faster than typing that's for sure.

  4. The wicked flee when no man pursueth

but the righteous are bold as a lion.

Pretty obvious who's wicked here, the NSA as they flee into their dark haunts in Ft. Meade, and who's righteous, willing to sacrifice a lot for his beliefs in the American Way.

The NSA are only bold when they are misleading the public, that is to say when Gen. Alexander's, or Mr. Clapper's, lips are moving.

  5. I did a quick search here and on some Thai tech forums.

I think you’ll need to contact 3BB (phone, email , FB) using your account number, and they’ll give you the username and password which was used to set up your account.

This assumes the username and password are masked in your Chinese-made router, and that you cannot determine what these are. And that they did not leave this information along with any work-order/paperwork after the installation.

  6. Eventually economics may trump bogus national security claims?

NSA spying hurts business of large U.S. hardware makers

SAN FRANCISCO — With evidence mounting that NSA spying has damaged the business of some of the largest U.S. technology companies, the question now is how long it will take them to win back the trust of overseas customers.
Without any changes in U.S. law that restrict the agency's ability to use tech for surveillance, the answer may be "never."
  7. ^ SIMs which are more than a few years old are of a previous technology/revision, so if porting from AIS to AWN or DTAC to TriNET, one may need a new SIM.

You could ask AIS to mail you a new SIM, which is mapped to your old number. You could also buy a new AIS/2100 MHz SIM locally, then call AIS with the details on the SIM/package (SIM number/IMSI), with which they can map your existing number to that new SIM.

Or just ring AIS on 1175, or drop them an email at [email protected] for advice to your particular issue.

  8. Not sure what to say.

We do not pay for in-coming calls here.

I suspect you are confused as to what you have actually purchased.

Can you be very, very, very specific...

can you include a time-line on all theth ings you did, including adding value and subscribing to plans? If there was a lag between the time you activated the SIM/added value and subscribed to a mobile data plan, you would have been paying 1 baht/min if connected to the internet, so in ~ 50 minutes your balance might have decreased from 200 to 143.

what is the name of the SIM you purchased?

how much value did you add?

how did you subscribe to the 599 baht 3G data plan?

how did you purchase 200 minutes? we really don't purchase minutes here on pre-paid, rather you had value, and then pay some default rate per minute.

never seen a reply in minutes left, or used. what is the exact reply to *121# SEND?

did you subscribe to an iSmart pre-paid bundle: http://www.ais.co.th/3g-one-2-call/th/promotion_detail.aspx?type=super_value&id=2

Really need a bit more detail, or you could just go back to the AIS store and ask them what you "purchased" and why your balance seems to have declined unexpectedly.

Maybe there was some "free bonus" associated with your SIM, plan, top-up, etc. and this "143" is the remainder of the free bonus?

  9. The poor NSA spooks are feeling neglected.

NSA morale down after Edward Snowden revelations, former U.S. officials say

Morale has taken a hit at the National Security Agency in the wake of controversy over the agency’s surveillance activities, according to former officials who say they are dismayed that President Obama has not visited the agency to show his support.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/nsa-morale-down-after-edward-snowden-revelations-former-us-officials-say/2013/12/07/24975c14-5c65-11e3-95c2-13623eb2b0e1_story.html

"former officials say". Sure, we should believe them. Why aren't they considered leakers? They're giving comfort to the enemy by highlighting the low morale at the NSA. Shame on them.

Six months after NSA story broke, Snowden looks even more patriotic

President Obama, congressmen and tech companies promise to 'rein in' the surveillance, but we should be skeptical

Six months ago this week, the Guardian and Washington Post published the first stories based on leaks from Edward Snowden. Since then, in what has become a steady drumbeat of revelations about the about the US National Security Agency other nations' spy agencies, we've learned how utterly hostile our governments have become to our most fundamental rights in the post 9/11 world – but we've also seen the first genuine push-back by some of the people who have the power to make a near-term difference.

    http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/dec/06/nsa-edward-snowden

Personally I admire Mr. Snowden, think he is a great patriot, and know that I do not have the personal fortitude and commitment to my country to do what he did. I am probably more representative of the meek majority?

  10. Sounds like a crappy base-band/radio issue. Can you update the phone at all? I think iPhones have to have special/unique firmware for each/specific service providers, but I have zero experience with iThings.

Was this location - stuck in traffic - different than your previous location?

Personally I would work hard to eliminate variables, one at a time, until you've narrowed the problem down to: the phone, the service provider, the location.

Maybe stop in a True Shop? Or Google "truemove H ios carrier" and grind through the various settings, issues and workarounds.

  11. Until you pay this remains a "booking", once you pay the "ticket is issued". These are separate and distinct "steps".

It sounds like the booking is held for 24 hours (but sometimes only until midnight Zulu time so depending on the airline's GDS it could be less than 24 hours), after which time the booking is cancelled.

You are not liable for payment, however you may not be able to get the same price/fare bucket later as it could be sold out by then, forcing you into a higher-priced bucket.

  12. ^ Yes, of course.

You may also be able to register using their e-Services Android app. - really nifty app. (not sure if they have an iPhone version), and/or their web-based e-Services platform.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ais.mimo.eservice&hl=en

    http://www.ais.co.th/eservice.html

You may also be able to request activation of voice-mail service via email: [email protected]

Be sure to include details re: your account/number so they can activate it.

  13. ^ It was not unusual for Thais to return to a ~ 60,000 baht bill, unaware that international roaming can be expensive - and many "flew the coop" without paying, so operators instituted a number of controls, checks and balances to reduce churn/default. It may be best to visit with them prior to traveling just to sort out the issues?

Obviously not an issue with pre-paid customers as they pay-as-they-go until they run out of balance.

  14. Telenor (DTAC here) supposedly has one of two recently granted licenses, and plans to build out in Burma, but there seem to be some delays/issues with the final granting of the license - maybe extra payments are still owed/expected?

They were/are hoping to have some decent coverage - population rather than geography; Myanmar is ~ 20% larger (area) than Thailand - towards the end of 2014.
