I know a heap of Thai guys who hand over their entire wage every month.

    Local culture matey.

I don't think it is local culture; it is common for men the world over to turn their paychecks over to their wives for budgeting. My mother ran the household budget, so does my wife--they are from different national cultures, neither are Thai. You see, if you have a financially responsible and trustworthy wife; it is common. The major difference is that the money given to the wife is for monthly bills, running the household, and family expenses. If they are lucky enough to have any leftover; the can enjoy some personal expenses. It is not her personal money for staying with him.

I know some locals too; including my in-laws. My son's Thai wife has a good job and contributes financially to their family. When he was still teaching, she made more than he did. They have several friends who are Thai-foreign couples and the women all work respectable jobs. Most Thai women work; I don't doubt some of their income goes to help support their family; which includes their husbands/bfs.

Allowance?  Is she a child or a wife?

Yeah, my thoughts too. However, it appears many, if not most, foreigners with local gfs/wives, do give them an allowance/salary/whatever to have them stay with them. This type of pay-for-play partnership seems little more than long-term customer status to me.

In the land of the automobile - walking to get from a to b is a relative new concept ????

Sent from my iPhone using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app

A to B, like house to car, store to car, office to car, are all common walks. Any longer walks are usually reserved for exercise and sports, or city dwellers without personal transport and no cab or bus fare.

Kind of universal The pedestrian has the Right of Way!

I think you are right. I was discussing traffic rules with some Thai friends who have been to Europe and/or the US.  They agreed that Thai law has similar right-of way laws as does  the western world; they just don't observe them.

The reason we were discussing traffic right of way was because in Hatyai the road department had just added several small traffic circles--not rounding-out the road, just adding a small circle in the middle of a busy intersection. At each of these circles was a sign posted in Thai and English saying, "Yield to vehicles in the circle"  One afternoon, I sat on my motorcycle in  one of those circles for several minutes pointing at that "Yield" sign; no one stopped.

in how many countries do McDonald serve alcohol, beer - whisky - wine etc?

I think you miss the point. The OP is looking for a hot burger, not a beer.

Alcohol is sold in McD's in most of Europe and like Burger King, Sonic, and Taco Bell, McDonald's has begun or will begin selling alcohol in the US, Asia and South America. Consumer demand dictates.

However, why anyone would want a McD's burger is beyond me. You can get a better burger in almost any Western bar-restaurant and in several other fast food places. Of course, this is my opinion.

McDonald's original strategy was fast food at reasonable prices--"Forty-five cents for a three-course meal . . ." was the marketing refrain; 15 cents burger, 15 cents shake, 15 cents fries.  We all know it is no longer so fast or so cheap. However, their continued success is based in large part on their switch in strategy to offerings for children; from toys to kiddie meals to playgrounds and their Ronald McDonald character with his cartoons, commercials, charities, and other marketing mixes.

McDonald's first garnered the children of my generation--I ate my first McD's burger in the late '50's in Northern Virginia--and influenced them to bring in their children, grand children and great grand children. And, of course, the adults accompany the kids. I am sure that is why so many adults, like the OP, hunger for a McD's burger. Generations of customers, all over the world now; great strategy.

Yeah, an all too common refrain, divorcing them seems to be the favored course of action. I know two men who are still with the wives who gambled away their possessions borrowing from loan sharks. Well, I guess it is only one; one of them died recently. The one left laughs it off saying, all he has now is his pension; so she can only get it a month at a time.  Not my idea of a life.

Yeah, since he apparently cannot trust her, I guess he does need to be with her 24/7--and if the property or vehicles are in her name, you are doubly in trouble. However, I mentioned it because just stopping her access to your money is not enough either--is it?

I didnt suggest that he should be forgotten about (although I do wish that he was) , I would just prefer if if people didnt constantly keep going on about him , he gets mentioned in numerous threads and do you really think that Boss reads Thai Visa and hopes that posters would stop mentioning him ?

If people stop talking about it, no matter the forum, no matter the language; he would be more likely to be forgotten. I simply stop reading when the material bothers me.

You havent seen that in Thailand? Some mangled body oozing blood and guts in the street while some guy walks past eating a slice and filming with his cell phone. I read *redacted name of Thai news site filled with all sorts of horrors* every day, point at the corpse while eating a Sai grok is it?

That never happens to me, but I dont know how to say "Do you have a zircon encrusted tweezer to hold it for me". Perhaps one of our more learned colleagues can help with the translation.

most of the classy Thermae ladies prefer sapphires, you'll never get good service with just zircon

Naw, you say, Yo Vito, Im bursting from these Buds, Im going to the pisser to take a piss.

Geez. Bet you would complain about going  tinkle in Thermae next to the girls.

No, I say "I've got to piss" or "I going to leave a piss" I just don't take pisses. I leave them in the toilet.  Never complained about the Thermae ladies, they would usually hold it for me.

Ha! Now I know you live in CM. Your mind is in the gutter! Other than the BritMan, all falang that live in CM are either drunks, fossils, waiting to die or pervs. Now I know why you confuse a simple desire for a therapeutic touch as something low and disgusting instead of spiritual. You should move to Pattaya to get away from the depravity of where you are and see the real Thailand.

What is this the politics section? Next you will be blaming President Trump for my neatness and good manners. Besides, if God didnt want folks to be poor he wouldnt have made them poor.

You must be a Brit. You guys dont speak English. You say 'ave a piss, dont you? Where do you have your piss in? In your Bum Bag?

Wrong again, eh? No, I am not a Brit, I am an American. Saying "take a piss" is simply illogical.

Exactly. Like right now, this very moment in time, I am here at Mickey D's enjoying a Samarai Pork Burger snack ( don't be critical, in some fashion the slurpy sloppy combo of ersatz teriyaki and myo make my heart throb). I made the mistake of ordering an ice tea (I usually get Coke) forgetting how absolutely revolting it is. That artificial syrupy lemony sweetness makes me gag. I knew this. But I ordered it anyway like the idiot I am.

Do I come on here and post "Eeeewww, Mickey D's ice tea in Thailand tastes like lemon flavoured cough syrup. It was better before the Junta took over."

Did I run to the cashier and say your tea sucks gimme my 50 baht back. What do you mean you don't understand? Don't you speak English? Instead of that jibberish, khap ka khop or whatever.

Do I do that? Nay, gentle readers, I choke the horse piss down cuz I'm dehydrated, get up, throw my garbage away instead of having the poor girl clean up after me like she does for the Chinese all day, then go about my biz. Later when I get back to the Love Nest, I can start a thread that says Eeeewww, like an idiot I accidentally drank latrine cleaner, yuck yuck yuck.

Some tea is better than others, but when you are thirsty, it's all good. I wonder if they have those guys here at Fortune town that rub your shoulders while you take a piss

Well, to each his own, I guess. I do not eat at McD's. Had lots of them when I was a kid and even did a radio commercial for them in high school. In the states, you can get a better burger and fries at any bar and grille and even at some other fast food places. I have found several places here to get a decent burger--some western restaurants and bars for example.

However, the main reason I took exception to what you said was your final sentence. Not about the guys rubbing your back at the urinal, but your phrase, " . . . take a piss"

Do you really "take a piss"?  Where is it you take them? I always leave mine.

Because they never go to bars and never pay for sex, and their educated wife's from wealthy hiso families never worked in bars either.

But the minority of us, who enjoy bars and hookers, and married bar girls, although widely despised by the moral majority of posters, are having a fine old time.

On my second beer now and it's 11am.

BritManToo, I am always pleased to hear your opinions on these issues. It appears you are being frank and honest in your statements. I too, can relate to what you say. However, I am not so sure it is the minority of foreigners who married local women who were bar girls; it seems quite the majority to me--now, some say it isn't so, even when it is.

I believe, just like Western women who will take you for everything; the hi-so women are equally capable of taking you. Just like everything else in life; you have to use your smarts.

Nevertheless, I have seen bar girls who made exceptionally good wives; honest. loving, caring and hard working to help keep the family together. However, I have seen other wives, some not even bar girls, who have done everything they can to cuckold their husbands and take them for whatever they can take.

In my 50 plus years in Southeast Asia knowing well literally scores of Western male and SEA female couples, I have seen far more bad marriages than good. Albeit, I know several mixed marriages, such as mine, that have lasted more than 20 years and are still going strong. However, I know many more such marriages which have ended in pain.

I have heard about every story imaginable--boyfriend(s), extended family, gambling habit,  high maintenance habit, drug habit, complications from STDs, houses, cars, bikes, trips, clothes, jewelry, buffalo needs a car, etc. ad infinitim. All the time, treating the husband like a long-term customer instead of a husband. The upshot; no money, no honey and usually not even willing to work to earn any of the money.

I've only been asked for it once at border crossing at PadangBasar. One is required to have 20,000Baht or equivalent or 20,000 Baht in a Thai Bank when entering the Kingdom Of Thailand.

I keep 20,00 Baht in a Thai Bank for this purpose. The pass book is updated the day I depart from T/Land. I also get a Bank letter confirming the amount. I have written on the statement "No money can be withdrawn from the Acc outside of Thailand" in Thai language. fee 100Bhat

Why don't you just carry the B20K-- it's only USD 607, EUR 533 or GBP 475--rather than running around updating pass books the day you fly and having the possibility they will tell you what the OP says, " . . . I showed my credit cards and my Thai bank account. Cannot accept, she said . . ."  According to ubonjoe, post #4, they require cash, he says, "For a visa exempt entry it is the equivalent of 10k baht in cash. For a visa entry it is the equivalent of 20k baht in cash. It can be in any exchangeable currency or baht."

Cash seems to be the key.

  16. Do your countries' universities not issue sealed official transcripts of your education? In the US, it is common practice for schools and some employers to request proof of degrees. Usually, a call to your university and the purchase of a transcript will send a sealed and stamped official copy of your courses, grades and degrees granted directly to whatever entity wants to know.

Here there may be some issue about translation of the transcripts; but it would appear logical--oh, there I go again--to simply charge the applicant a translation fee.

A problem is, some of the degree mills, for an additional fee, will also send transcripts for the fake degrees they sell. So, there may be an issue.

In the US, if there is any doubt, the employer/school simply checks the regional accrediting agencies to verify the legitimacy of the school issuing the transcripts and may even call the school for verification.

That all may be too complicated for use here.

Marijuana is not being reclassified, kratom is—see the article, “The bill does not reclassify marijuana as a less-controlled narcotic. It, however, seeks to reclassify kratom (Mitragyna speciosa), moving it to a less-controlled drug category or to the same rank as morphine.”
