I am surprised at the number of respondents who are spending more than a pittance to live here. In past TV forums, I saw far too many who claimed they lived well on B20k/mo or even less. As with any claim of little expenditure, I wonder what it must be like to not enjoy the things you want--within reason--just because they are expensive. Some say, they enjoy living on the cheap. I do not know if they see it as a challenge or simply have gotten used to living at minimum; however, I suspect for most it is because they have no more to spend. I wonder if their monthly income were doubled; would they spend or save the excess income?

That will depend on where you're coming from. Australia is very costly these days.
Expensive is indeed relative to your "normal" expenditures; however, if your normal expenditures are high, almost anywhere else may seem cheap.

Now I suppose I could be wrong here but after 8 years of marriage I think this sort of behavior makes for a difficult marriage ahead for me, and I was hoping this marriage would last my lifetime.
Did they teach you in school, as a wee lad, when faced with a multiple choice question, always go with your first answer, your gut feeling?
I was taught to choose the longest answer in a multiple choice test.

Well, on the first place, NEVER, NEVER EVER give your dog cooked bones. Bones you should feed raw, or after keeping 6 weeks in freezer to kill parasites. NEVER COOKED. I REPEAT. NEVER GIVE YOUR DOGS COOKED BONES.
After having said this, your dogs look OK, not skinny, but OK. Not to fat. When they are happy, and play, then you should not need to worry much.
The first signs you should look for sick dogs is change in behavior. When they are used to eat, or used to play, and suddenly are not interested, it is a sign for a sick dog. When the dog never has been a big eater, well, then he/she is not a big eater. We had a very skinny, but further healthy dog. The dog was so skinny that some of our visitors returned with a bag of dog food, or/and gave money to buy food for that particulair dog. She just did not like to eat.
When you are in a doubt, have them checked for parasites, but be not surprised nothing is wrong.
Good luck!
Arjen.
Fish, chicken, and pork bones are common fare for dogs in the PI and in Vietnam.

Is it possible to get the bar girl out ot the bar man?
You can lead a hooker to culture, but you cannot make her think.

My first Thai girlfriend was in her mid-twenties and worked in a travel agency on Sukhumvit. She was quite tall, slender and attractive. Her English was fluent; she had gone to college in Singapore. We dated for over two years while I was stationed in Saigon and made regular trips to Bangkok for business. We broke up because she found out I had a Vietnamese girlfriend too. I married the Vietnamese girl. Several years later, after my Vietnamese wife and I divorced the Thai girl and I began seeing each other again. By this time, she was passed her use-by date and had a child with a Thai man. I just didn't want the baggage; so I ended it.

Are we still painting this house?
1) ---We have already established exceptions to the rule.
2) ---We have already established our differing opinions—you believe women prefer men ‘properly-attired’; I believe not all women are shallow enough to judge a man on what he wears.
I suggest you refer to the fact we have already established exceptions to the rule.

Men pay less attention to their appearance than women and to that extent the saying "you are what you wear" is true! ( not from me but I agree)
Again, you are making generalizations. And, I wonder who believes appearance is only the clothes you wear?

Okay, fb groups if you insist, absolutely nothing wrong with fb lovers.
And what is a girl (lady) of negotiable virtue?
The OP was looking for a genuine lady, you forgot?
I was not suggesting fb groups, but different fb accounts. One for the cuckolds they milk, one for their family and friends, one for their close buds, etc.
I forgot what? You are the one who mentioned, " . . . university students looking for a sponsor . . . "
A lady of negotiable virtue, or an NV--a lady whose virtue is for sale--would not care what you wear.
I was speaking of a genuine lady; hence, my suggesting a good student, one intelligent and capable. One who may even make it in a profession that does not include sex.

1. My response was thought as a question, forgot the ?.
2. Stayed many times at UTCC coffeeshop as a 60+ chap visiting twin daughters of a friend whom I spnsored (without any interest whatsoever, just for my Karma and to support the wife of a passed away husband and friend).
And I can assure you, not a single farang in an outfit I mentioned would have the slimest chance, except when desperate for a sponsor. You probably know how smartly dressed these female students are and how proud they are of their uniform. And next to her a Pattaya farang copy? She would completely loose face ?!
Ah, ah, you forgot the exception to the rule. While there may be those shallow enough to make decisions by dress; there are some who do not.

There are always exceptions to rules.
University coffee shops in Pattaya and Phuket ?! Most probably university students looking for a sponsor will approach you with that outfit. They would shy to present that guy to her Facebook group ?!
I think you are still talking about ladies of negotiable virtue. And, one can have as many fb groups as they want.

Snowflake liberals, you know, the ones who saw freedom and liberty for all and rebelled against the authoritarian dictates of King George III. All the contard colonists supported the King and his authoritarian rule and the thought that some were above the law.

Are they all? Have no idea, I am not a beer sipping bar jockey in sandals and a muscle shirt. However, I am not so sure a good looking guy with a good personality and a way with women wouldn't score no matter what he wore or drank. And, my suggestion is a university coffee shop and not a bar for sitting.

Twenty five years ago I was in the Philippines; Alaska is far too cold. And, I wash my butt. I guess I may have had to warm the water a bit in Alaska,

Give me the bar girls any time, at least they are honest about what they want.
I wouldn't think they were good girls. My definition of good girls goes beyond not working in bars. There are money grubbers who have good jobs. A good girl for me would have to start with her truly caring for me.

No, I think university students are a great source; they are usually old enough. I would look for those who are doing well in school and want to make something out of their lives. Nothing wrong with a good looking, intelligent and capable woman; if she loves you. However, that caveat works for almost any woman. If she truly loves you, she will be a better bet.
I live near a large university and I frequent a coffee shop there. Many coeds have come up to me just to practice their English. What a great way to start a conversation. My wife suggests that is the reason I still frequent the place. She may be right.

I gather you mean, a sad reflection on what Thai society have become, sad part about it is, its always been that way, in other words if this was in a western country, I am 99.9% certain passers by would have checked in on him more earlier that 2 hours or at least called for some support group or police to attend much earlier than to sit and stare and ponder while eating grass.
No ID tells me some shallow punk took his wallet while he was deceased, sad, really sad this Thai society in the touristy areas, I hope they get what Greece got back in the 90's, very few tourists because of their selfishness, sending many businesses against the walls.
Are you saying there were no farangs around him? Well, I would borrow you 99.9% certainty, and suggest there were farangs about. And, the shallow punk you mention didn't bother to get his watch.

What's your cost of living here in Thailand?
in General Topics

As far as accommodation is concerned, Thailand is great. It is certainly less expensive than it is in the US, and my home is in Florida. Accommodation is also less expensive in Thailand than in the Philippines.
