But Matt Damon is not the average farang, he is in shape and looks handsome. That is different from the OAP's on this forum. Guys like that can get all the girls they want and never have to pay for it. If you got visible abs and are not too old.. game is different from those who don't have those things. Woman also go for physical attraction.

It also helps to speak the language and understand the culture

Part of TATs August promotion to attract single women to Thailand?

Nothing new. A woman who worked at the US embassy in Vietnam 45-50 years ago had a string of Vietnamese young men as her "housekeepers."  I know two Eurp women now who come to Thailand as sexpats every year--sound familiar?  They like the young Thai/Asian guys--just like so many of us like the young Thai/Asian women. I also know quite a few Thai guys--most have their own businesses which cater to farangs. especially on the little resort islands--who specialize in "escorting" farang women. Nothing new at all.

there are a few of these places around, normally with blacked out windows and painted pink. there was one near the triangle bar in pattaya and another in the rompho beer bars. they normally cater to bar girls after they finish work. it is hard to believe it but bar girls actually go there to buy the guys drinks and so on. these are the same bar girls who tell every foreign man they meet that they dont like thai men. never heard of high-so woman frequenting these type of places but i suppose it is possible.

Gee, ya think? Of course, many Thai girls prefer Thai men; just like many farang men prefer farang women. Bar girls buying drinks and even supporting their lovers is nothing new--just that too many farangs have never seen that side of it; when was the last time a bar girl even bought you a drink? Sometimes women need to be able to actually communicate and even establish a relationship; and sometimes it's strictly physical. Just like older men like younger women; older women like younger men--is that really difficult to comprehend?

OP, I can really relate to this.

Kindly add the Spanish to your list.

Groups of them all seem to talk at the same time and get louder and louder, I wonder who is listening.

When I first rented an apartment in Spain, there was a central open area surrounded by buildings with  all the apartments having windows to this area.

The natural level of people noise was high, children, babies, couples, occasional couples having a fight or scolding children, kitchen sounds etc.

    I was shocked.

However, there and then I new that this racket would be the norm and I decided to accept it and not to resist it.

Amazingly, once I had done this, it never bothered me again.

I now live half time in Thailand and Spain, always summer time for me and my wife.

Remember when you first arrive in a country where you cannot speak the language and people talking are just making noise?

After a while and you begin to learn their language, that noise changes and becomes information that you can start to understand.

For me at least, the screechyness tends to disappear with increased language skills.

I hope you can also find the right switch in your brain that allows you to de-sensitise, accept and ignore this irritation.

    Good luck.

I have to second your statement on Spanish speakers. I went to a grad school in the US where 65% of the students were foreign. It was blatantly apparent in the library--the Spanish speakers were always heard above the rest; and that included a significant Southeast Asian student presence.

Von Braun did similar stuff, and the Americans welcomed him.

People who get to the top of governments generally feel they have the right to kill others, mostly they get away with it.

Tony Blair was responsible for 500,000 deaths, and nobody worries about him.

Neither Von Braun nor Blair were anything close to Himmler.

In 21 years here, I could count on one hand the number of times a Thai person has ever offered to buy me anything. But, it is hard to see that you have much to lose, other than the prospect of a romance. If you're ever asked to provide cash in advance, that changes everything.

I feel for you allane. Perhaps, you have been friendly with the wrong Thais. I have two Thai friends with whom I almost have to argue for them to allow me to pay for anything. I have several more Thai acquaintances who certainly stand their shout for drinks and pay their share. And, I have Thai in-laws who invite me over for dinner, pay for dinner out as often as I, and always bring something when invited to dinner at our house.  Gee, just like friends and family; imagine that.

He is entitled to his opinion! Democrats must be snorting "coke" to keep the good vibes up for Hillary, while "the donald" is a bit of a <deleted> Hillary is wrong to the bone! Listen to the people who have known her for over 20 years, all they can say is that she is a self serving bithc who doesn't care who she walks over to get what she wants!! The people who vote be damned! By the way, if you ask for "links", no problem! ;):wai:

Where is it you see I am denying him his opinion? I asked if he is agreeing with Russia and knows what Trump thinks; and pointed out his faux pas.

I am thoroughly disgusted that these two, Donald and Hillary, are all the US can bring forth. So, I am not pro-either; in fact, I am anti-both. I simply find issue with those who make, shall we say, less than informed statements—of course, that is my opinion.

So allow me to ask you a question: If I take your key statement and only change the subject; is it also true?

For example: (Donald) is wrong to the bone! Listen to the people who have known (him) for over 20 years, all they can say is that (he) is a self serving (bas*ard) who doesn't care who (he) walks over to get what (he) wants!!

    Bunky yourself!

"...it is not so simple to take away our guns"

    - who wants to "take away your guns"?

    - it is! Have a look at Australia!

"What do you have to worry about?"

    - Maybe that is the empathy, you feel I lack?!

"you have no say in American laws"

    - therefore: discussion is over

    - if Trump wins the next election, so won't have you!

You really have no clue, Australia, you say—you really do not comprehend, do you?

Yeah, Australia, it's just like the States. Gun ownership was not an Australian entitlement and there were not hundreds of millions of guns already in Australia. Unlike Americans, Australians had no legal right to fight the nanny state gun take-away. And, unlike America, every Australian could not give-up a gun and still have millions of guns left in the country.

Then, you state the obvious, to which you seem to take exception; and finally change the subject to Trump.

Still confused and exasperated, eh Bunky?

    Are you sure?

im fairly certain one situation leads to an increase in the other but no doubt your going to tell me, the way to solve this problem is by handing more guns out.

if every man, woman, child and pet dog carried an ak47 and a few clips, the problem would eliminate itself?

Yes, I am sure. Obviously, you don't know me because you are wrong about what I would say. The fact that having guns makes using them in crimes easier does not take much thought. However, following that same logic it appears you would advocate curtailing car ownership, because even more people are killed by cars than by guns. However, blaming inanimate objects for the acts of people is part of the problem.

  10. My nephew is Filipino, both his parents teach English here. He was involved in story telliing and spelling bee in the school he attended here in the south. His Thai teachers were supportive of him and allowed him to compete in a local English language story-telling contest. Almost immediately, the Thai parents claimed foul; saying he was a Filipino and knew English before he attended the school--a fair point, in my opinion. However, in the middle of his English language story, when he understood what the commotion was all about, he switched to Thai. In perfect Thai, he related the same story he also told in perfect English. He was not disqualified from further contests, and won regional and national contests in English story telling. The school gave him a special citation, a parade and the governor of the province had him and other students and school officials to a luncheon and celebrated this first national school recognition for their province--the governor even reached into his own pocket and gave my nephew B1000 as a prize.

So, not all Thais are so biased; else why would he have been allowed to not only complete, but to win?

As inte;lligent as your "if you are not an American"- idiocy?

    Hell yeah!

What's the matter Bunky? Did I write too much for you to comprehend and all you could fathom was it was none of your business?

I too do not like the fact innocent people are killed, and as I said, I too would like to see more gun control, but as I also said, it is not so simple as to take away our guns.

What do you have to worry about? If we kill all Americans, the world may be better off—those mean nasty arrogant Yanks would stop putting their noses in your business.

If you are not American, you don't have to go there or do business there—in fact, even if you are American, you don't have to go or do business there. So, I submit, what business is it of yours?

If you are claiming to be the monitor of world laws, or on some humanitarian tact about the senseless loss of life, go for it. However, fact is fact, you have no say in American laws.

Wow. Very short sighted of an owner to be so petty on such a large check.

From my POV, when eating at a buffet sometimes the eye is bigger than the stomach.

To force people to finish their plate promotes obesity.

Sometimes I'll take a portion of something that looks good but it turns out it's awful tasting, so don't eat it.

Sure there are limits such as if someone hogs a whole tray of seafood and then doesn't touch it but I doubt that happens that often.

    Cost of doing business.

Short-sighted? Business is business; you have to reconcile revenue with cost. A restaurant which offers all-you-can-eat must forecast what its patrons will eat. If everyone simply takes everything they can and not eat it, there can be no profit—plain and simple. Consequently, if you take more than you eat, you are wasting food. Sorry, if your eyes are bigger than your stomach or if eating all you took will make you fat; it was your decision to take it. So, yes, a patron should be charged for wasting food.

When I was a freshman in college in rural Virginia, a group of my football buddies and I hit this all-you-can-eat Sunday brunch run by two little old ladies. We, of course, were challenging each other on who could eat the most—and we ate copious amounts of the food offerings. After a couple of hours, the two little old ladies came over to our table, one of them, in the sweetest little old lady voice imaginable said, "Boys, I am happy to see you enjoy our food, but I think you've had enough."  One of the boys yelled back, "The sign says, All-you-can-eat."   "True," said the other little old lady in not so sweet a voice, "and that my boys, is all-you-can-eat."  We looked at each other and realized, yeah, we had eaten a lot, every one of us in fact had had more than we wanted to eat, we were all stuffed.  The first old lady interjected in her sweet voice, "Boys we would love to have you come back, but when you do, we will have to limit each of you to 12 pork chops, 15 pieces of chicken, 10 steaks . . . " When we heard that, we were almost ashamed, all of us had, in fact, eaten much more than the very liberal amount of food the old lady offered as our limit. We did return almost every Sunday.

What a ridiculous argument you have offered.

Debate what I have said or get lost.

and if you are going to debate what I have said then read what I have said and argume what I have said and not what I have never said.

I am laughing at your pitiful response. You make absolutely no sense.

Let’s recap what has been said:

You said, “ . . . parents like Hillary will most certsinly (sic) pull strings to get their children a safe assignment away from harms (sic) way.”

To which I asked, “ . . . you think parents like Trump or Bush would not pull strings?”

Instead of answering the question, you said, “I actually said exactly the opposite of what you accuse me of . . .”

To which I responded, “I have not accused you of anything; I asked you a question. Your statement that you, " . . . said exactly the opposite . . ." is patently incorrect . . .”

Then, you offer only this pitiful response, ““What a ridiculous argument you have offered. Debate what I have said or get lost . . . ”

My poor misguided soul, you are the one to make false accusations, to refuse to answer questions, and to fail to respond directly to what has been said—you know, like in a debate.

No wonder you support Trump, you sound just like him.
