Was there a special strain of COVId that infected British youth that they became so mentally distressed they couldn't work? Seems like in the rest of the world that particular strain never appeared We all feel down in the dumps sometimes, but you dust yourself off and go to work. You know I'm a total Anglofile, I love your country, but the ability for a 20 yo to say his/her mental health prevents them from working and the State pays them money for 'feeling down'' is absurd. Men came back from war after seeing some pretty bad stuff and I'm sure pretty traumatized and went back to work I'm not saying real mental illness isn't a thing, but seriously so many young Brits can't work cos they're mentally impaired!

All very true Trouble is a large majority when they arrive in their 50's believe they are immortal, it's a common misconception prevalent across a lot of the males of the species So he is running outta funds, no insurance reliant on whatever he can get from a government hospital, which I know I will piss off some, are close to quacks posing as Doctors Now would be the time, strap yourself into an airline seat and go home

Florida Condos Insurance and HOA Fees Hellscape
GinBoy2 replied to Jingthing's topic in US & Canada Topics and Events
Insurance is such a minefield, and of course it's very State dependant. I live in a townhouse HOA and we had a collective policy. Then it got to the point insurance was just ridiculously expensive, and for HOA's the insurance phrase is 'walls out' and you're on the hook for everything inside the walls Previously it was the rule multi family dwellings couldn't self insure so we thought we were stuck. Then things all loosened up and we got individual coverage for wall in and out , which coupled with our cars dropped the monthly cost by close to 50% My rentals are in a multi level structure, still working on that -
So I think from what I read these US bunker buster bombs can burrow themselves 200ft before they explode. The enrichment chamber is 290ft in the mountain. But i suspect that with multiple strikes that concrete shell ain't gonna work If ever there was a time for Iran to negotiate, this would be it I have several Iranian friends in the US who dream of a day when the regime will fall and they can go home, hopefully that is that pivotal time. As much as I don't like the idea of war, pressure them to to point that the population fight back

Oh and for the geeks, Yes the last sentence of my post was a paraphrase of George Smiley, who I love!

Thing is the expat population does fall into two camps. Those who could if they wanted to, leave, and those where boats have been burnt and they're stuck. You tend to find the ones with the ability to leave are usually pretty honest about the pluses and minuses of Thailand, the good the bad and the ugly But then you get to the next category. Because for whatever reason they ended up stuck, and it's usually money, they will make excuses (reasons) for almost anything that happens in Thailand to justify them staying in Thailand You could probably tell them their daughter was being sexually abused by the local monk and there would be an excuse for it A zealot who protests too hard always has something to hide

So I do like German breakfasts, cold cuts great bread etc. That being said. As a young man I used to do a lot of work in the UK, and was introduced to this wonder breakfast item 'Fried bread' I'm pretty sure my arteries have suffered, but OMG, white bread, and fry it! Stuff to die for. German cold cuts as much as I like it can't beat fried bread

Are you bitter about western women?
GinBoy2 replied to Cornish Pasty's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Thats unfortunate. Thankfully all my adult kids get along with themselves and with Mom's. My Thai son when he came to the US for college lived with my eldest daughter in Chicago, then after graduation moved with her to Denver. Now we on to grandkids, and for them, both of them are nana (name) I think when I first got divorced my daughters did hold some resentment against my Thai wife. But as I explained to them, it wasn't her that cheated on their Mom, it was me! But now all water long under the bridge, and I can almost forget it ever happened -
UK Controversy Over Union Flag Prompts Apology from Scottish Council
GinBoy2 replied to Social Media's topic in World News
I'm pretty OK with seeing a US flag displayed with a flag of whatever State I'm living in Whats the deal with a UK flag next to a Scottish, English, Welsh or NI flag? I'm American, born in California, Hispanic do I really give a rats ass about flags, Just grow up -
As a hairdresser I had in California once said to me... Men don't lose hair, it simply relocates!

You could ask the same question; 'are you bitter about Thai women' that could unleash the floodgates! Divorce can be bad, but I think for quite a largely unreported number we get through it OK. I'm still very friendly with my ex, mother of two of my kids, we talk several times a week, and she gets on great with my Thai wife, primarily because when they are together they love nothing more than to bitch about me! How many stories have we all read on AN from bitter guys who got fleeced by their Thai gf/wife? So relationship breakups are always hard, but I think the bitterness comes from the degree of, and I hate to say it, the money that gets lost. Me and my ex did a mutual separation agreement, never needed a lawyer, we filed it with the court it cost us $50 and six weeks later it was done. Neither of us got all that we wanted, but it was fair and we got on with our lives Pretty sure Bitterness=Money -
Well I'm sure there are more than a few willing to 'accelerate' the process! How many get caught, that's another question, Thai justice is as we all know dubious, and I'm sure 'Natural Causes' is the default cause for any older dead farang with a sweetie young enough to be his daughter or granddaughter,

So this is one of those topics that we go around and around with here.. But it always fascinates, a little like watching reality TV. I hate myself for watching it, but can't help myself. Of course over the years I've run in to many a couple, obvious ex bar girl and older farang. They tend to be decades apart in age. What the heck do you talk about, generally young enough to be daughters, if not granddaughters. I talk to my daughters but it's on a whole different level, we almost don't speak the same language So I guess if it's just all about sex, thats fine, but I do just kinda like hanging out with my old lady, same age age similar life experiences, don't think I could deal with the girl child thing

Stupid Hallmark holidays. I'd kinda slap any of my kids if they sent me some stupid gift ....they all know better!

Nothing much to do in regular Thailand
GinBoy2 replied to Harrisfan's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I also work for an airline, but honestly now after travelling so much I'm kinda done. Tired of the stress of flying standby, even if it is free, too old to be couch surfing in airports if I don't make it. I'll fly to see the kids and grandkids, but really I don't like being away from home anymore. I miss my own bed, I miss my cats Might sound terribly boring to some, but in my life I've seen a lot, but I've spent a lot of it on planes, probably slept more nights in hotel beds than my own bed. Time to say enough is enough, now I'm happy sat here one of my cats snuggled up to me, watching the outside world from my living room and watching some TV -
End of an Era: Marks & Spencer Closing Down Across Thailand

Hmm jaffa cakes, I discovered them in my local Irish store. I can, unfortunately devour an entire packet in a single evening, one of my guilty pleasures -
I'm still in awe at his remarkable escape, I just watched him interviewed in hospital and it truly is a miracle he survived. Now we can all speculate how this happened, but twin engine failures are, to the point of non existent, I can only remember the crash in the Hudson River. So bird strikes or contaminated fuel spring to mind. The flaps and landing gear issues, were if the crew were grappling with lack of thrust the last things on their minds We wait to see what the flight data recorders reveal

I'm sorta with you on this one.. I did a scan of local Welsh local newspapers and I could see anything, since this the sort of thing that local newspapers thrive on is odd https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c62vyzenq9do The whole thing, Bangkok nightclub ending up in a hospital in Pattaya, doesn't really pass the sniff test

I'm sure they are. But I've always thought, what if something happens after the initial surgery. Surgery is fine you get discharged and fly home, but a few days later something goes wrong? Do you fly back to India to consult with the original surgeon, or do you have to find a local physician, then try to get all the medical records from India? So maybe medical tourism is right for some, but I'm not convinced that it always saves you money

I like BKK in the same way I like NYC. It's great, exciting for a couple of days then I'm ready to 'Get the Hell outta Dodge' and get back to real life Not really a big city guy in the first place
